It was getting late, though not quite late enough for curfew. Folen had spent the majority of the day lifting and hauling things for drudges and his muscles were screaming at him, but he wasn't actually tired enough to go find his way back to the candidates barracks. So he had wandered out to the spring he had heard mention of a few days before. He had never actually seen a the hot springs for himself and thought it might be interesting to investigate it.
Certainly it couldn't hurt to sooth his aching muscles for a while. Gingerly he settled down near the edge of the springs. Rolling up his trousers he slipped his boots off and dangled his feet into the water. It was much warmer than he expected but not too hot. Especially since he'd only started with his toes. As he became aclimated he slower lowered more of his legs into the warmth laying back on the ground to look up at the darkening sky.
It was a pleasant night and there wasn't a whole lot of bustle around where he had chosen. It made a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the weyr or Harper hall for that matter. Oh he didn't mind being around others but sometimes it was nice just to have a few moments to yourself.
Folen's eyes were drifting shut when he heard a sound. Sitting up he looked around to see who or what it might be.

All in all, today had been a good day. Tethis and Feylith were pleased as they circled the hot springs, the blue dragons crooning an alert to any who were below that he and His were coming in for a landing.
The short, lean rider jumped off her blue a few feet off the ground, ignoring his noise of dissatisfaction. As soon as he landed, she pulled the riding straps off, quick and efficient. "Get on in there then, you silly wherry." she teased him affectionately. The blue nosed her gently, eyes whirling at her and then he carefully moved for the water, not wanting to step on the unwary.
Tethis tugged off her riding jacket and her top, leaving on enough for modesty, glad that the hot springs were here to shrug off the chill of between.
At first the figure soaking in the springs was given little enough attention, until she thought.... he did look awfully familiar. She gave a second glance, teal eyes widening as she thought she recognized.... "Folen?" she sounded surprised, and more than a little hopeful. "From Harper Hall?" hadn't she heard he was here as well, when she ran into Jada? Rumor was one thing, though; seeing was believing!

Folen smiled as he caught sight of a blue coming in for a landing. That rider, had he seen her around somewhere before? He couldn't remember, he hadn't really had a chance to meet too many riders as of yet. But he would swear on the first egg that he knew that face from somewhere.
As soon as the rider called to him Folen knew he had been right. Grinning he hopped up to greet his old friend. "Tethis! Yes, it's Folen. How are you? I had heard you were here, but they keep us so busy I hadn't found a chance to come find you. That and I am not very confident of my ablities to navigate the tunnels as of yet. I still tend to get horribly lost. And me with memory training." He laughed at his own expense.
"But look at you, you look amazing. I can see this place agrees with you." She seemed so much happier than she had when she was at Harper hall. There was just something about Tethis' demeanor that said she was where she should be.
"And your fine friend over there." Folen bowed to the dragon not forgetting his manners. "Such a handsome fellow."

Feylith, this is a friend of mine from when I was very little. Folen.
The blue shifted, turned, and came back to look at the stranger His had called a friend. It was a word she used for few enough, so his eyes were whirling green and blue. You may tell him I said hello if you wish, Mine. It wasn't unusual for him to broadcast, but he didn't often do it to those who weren't Riders, so for now his speech was only for His. Maybe you should tell him about all the times you got lost while I was small, and I had to come find you.
She laughed, leaning against her dragon. "I wouldn't say it agrees with me too well." she said finally, wrinkling her nose playfully. "Not enough sand and water. Too much mountain. But yes..." she gave the blue a tender look. "I'm quite happy." Most of the time. "And now I have someone to bother when I want to reminisce." she reached out to hug the Candidate. "How long has it been? Three turns, at least." she looked back at the blue.
"And Feylith says hello." the blue bobbed his head, whuffing at His. A small chirp from behind Folen, and then a bronze tail was waving in front of his face and there was a weight on his head. "And Wave does too, apparently."

"Well hello to you too," Folen replied politely to Feylith and Wave before he returned Tethis's hug happily conscious of the fire lizard balancing on his head.. "Since we saw each other last? I think it's been closer to 5 or six turns..maybe more. It's strange how quickly time passes when your busy with life. And it's not a bother. I fully intend to do my share of reminiscing myself."
Pulling back the harper apprentice grinned at his old friend. "I mean, I'm delighted that I have been given the chance to stand. Not everyone has that kind of an opportunity or responsibility offered to them. The weyr is a very different place from Harper hall in some ways, while at the same time not so different at all in other ways. And I am really enjoying learning my way around both figuratively and literally. But I was a little lonely thinking there wouldn't be anyone here that I knew. So I am delighted that you and Jada are here too. I'll try to meet up with you when I can. Whenever I can manage to escape the tender mercies of the candidate master that is. "

"Surely I saw you at least once when I had time to visit mother." The girl frowned, thoughtful. "Well, no... I guess you're right." it surprised her. "I can't believe I neglected you for that long."
Her eyes twinkled at her friend. "I'll put my money on at least a brown for you, Folen. You've always been the good sort, and I just can't picture you on a green."
There's nothing wrong with blues. Feylith sounded mildly indignant. And for this, he shyly let the candidate hear him, though it may have come through very quietly, and almost shyly.
"Right, but he's a tall fellow." Tethis looked up at him, playfully gazing up at the younger man. Her dragon snorted, mussing her hair with his nose. "I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for you now, Fol, and I'm glad you're here. How long have you been here?" she looked thoughtful. "I mean, I'm surprised you and Jada didn't get Searched together." her face scrunched, thoughtful.
But then she looked wicked. "And I might be able to help you escape the Candidate Master every so often, if you'll not mind helping me mend my riding straps a bit."
Lazy.

(OOC: Sorry I was hadn't realized she would make trips back to harper hall but it makes sense. I'll have Folen fudge about his memory. XD)
Folen scratched his chin in thought and then shrugged. "Well with as busy as things get, its always possible I may have forgotten a visit or two. Because you know how sedate and quite it is around harper hall."
Laughing he shook his head," Oh I'm not really a betting man. But I have to agree, if I impressed a green she would probably be a very odd creature to be sure. It's not very likely."
Turning to look at Feylith at the sound of his voice Folen smiled encouragingly at the dragon. "Your absolutely right, Feylith. I think every color is unique and special in their own right. Your abilities might be different from a green, brown, bronze, or gold, but that doesn't mean they are any worse or better." Folen moved closer to the blue lifting his hand to offer to give him a scratch.
"It takes every color to make a good wing. Because you all have different specialties. I admire all dragons and I would be honored by any dragon who chose to impress me no matter the color."
"And here I thought tallness would be an advantage." Folen laughed again, "What with being able to reach the dry patches and what not. Oh and i've not been here very long at all, a few seven days perhaps. Time tends to blur together with all the work they've been giving us. I think I missed the rider who came for Jada because I was off running an errand for one of the masters. It wasn't until a while later that I was searched and brought to the weyr. I think the rider was equally surprised to find someone else from a place that had already been searched."
Folen grinned "Of course I don't mind helping out. It's good practice and I have to say I like it much better than cleaning the latrines or digging ditches. Jada might even come along and help out too. We've been practicing mending together. She's doing really well actually.

"Bo-ring." Tethis agreed. "I remember being so angry when mother sent me away, but looking back I don't know how I would have managed if I'd stayed."
The blue put his large head down towards the Candidate, eyes a deep green. I'm big for a blue. Tell him, mine. He looked back at Tethis as the young man scratched him. And then tell him my left eye ridge itches.
The girl smiled, and dutifully repeated what her dragon had asked her too. "Feylith is a pretty good size for his color. He might not be as fast as some of the smaller dragons, but he has a bit more stamina. And we're training hard to catch him up with some of the bigger fellows. We might never be able to get too much speed out of him, but staying power is just as useful in a Fall. Also, Feylith asked me to tell you his left eye ridge itches." her lips twitched, and the dragon looked contentedly at the man in front of him.
"As for height, it can be an advantage, when they get as big as this wherry here." she gave her dragon a sly look. "But I was grateful I was short when he was smaller."

"I think boredom is a matter of perspective really. But your point is taken. You always were more of action oriented. And it can sometimes take the harpers a while to get things moving." Folen nodded while he obligingly scratched the offending eyeridge with long dexterous fingers.
"Your practicing is paying off." Folen told the blue admiringly. "I haven't been close to too many dragons yet, but I thought you looked very strong and steady gliding down to the lake."
"Oh now there is an interesting mental image. Me trying to bend to fit on a weyrling dragon." Folen laughed running his free hand through his already mussy hair messing it further. "Well it should be good for entertainment value if nothing else. At least they don't stay that small for long."

"Well, I've always been a bit boyish." she admitted, looking down at her figure. "Present form included. I think the only thing feminine about me is my hair. And frankly, Feylith doesn't help with that. I'd rather spend time flying with him and preparing for what may come than worrying about looking pretty. After all, looks get you nowhere unless you have a lot of them. And I don't."
Oh, she was passable enough, but no one would call her beautiful. And her absolute lack of care did nothing to change any of that.
Of course I looked strong. Feylith looked pleased with himself. I've got lots of practice. Tell him, tell him.
"Feylith says he has lots of practice." her eyes twinkled. You know you could talk to him yourself. I wouldn't mind.
I don't want to yet. the blue's mind-voice was shy. You're doing a good job of talking to him for now. Don't want to get him too used to dragons talking to him. His might be upset if he Impresses.

Folen shook his head at what his friend was saying. He had to agree with her. Tethis with her muscular frame and strong passions wasn't terribly lady like. Though he would argue she had her own unique sort of beauty, if he thought it would do any good.
Strength of character could be just as alluring as physical beauty. Though he wasn't sure he could ever convince Tethis of that. "Personally I think people are more attractive just by being who they really are, then they would ever be by trying to be something they aren't completely comfortable with. Remember that time when they were trying to cast the pageant for the turn's end gather and most of the girls had come down with colds so they decided I should have a go as lady holder since it wasn't a singing part. I just had to stand there and look pretty." At this Folen flipped non existent hair back over his shoulder and fluttered his eyes at Tethis. It hadn't been a very good character match. That pageant was far less serious than the harpers had intended for some odd reason.
Upon hearing that Feylith had wanted him to know that the blue had had lots of practice. Folen turned to the dragon and nodded gravely. "I could tell. You must train very hard to be so accomplished.

Tethis wrinkled her nose. "I do recall that we were... seven turns? And I remember stamping my feet and demanding the part since I actually was a girl. But no..." she'd been a runnerbeast. "I had to wear that stupid runner costume, and carry the lord holder." She scowled. "I got in more fights from people teasing us that sevenday following..."
The blue tossed his head, looking pleased. I like this one, mine. You should keep him. he watched His quirk a smile, and leaned in to nose her lovingly.
"Off with you now, you big wherry." her voice was thick with affection. "Get your soak in, and I'll give you a good oiling later."
The blue made a happy noise, then leaned in very close to the Candidate. Goodbye for now, little Harper boy. Please stay kind to Mine. He spoke so quietly in Folen's mind that the boy may have thought he imagined it. But then the dragon was slipping off into the warm waters, happy noise emanating from his throat.
The dragonrider relaxed into the water herself, looking oddly content.
