L'thor found himself a place to sit with his pate of food and dug in moodily. He did not like his wingleader, not in the least, but Raith had restrained him from speaking his mind. He wished she hadn't, but he supposed he saw the sense; he was still quite new here, figuring out how the place was run. It wasn't like Ista for sure, but he didn't yet know if it was so different that speaking out of turn would get him landed in more serious trouble than he was prepared to endure. Still, the way that b*****d treated female riders! It made it blood boil, and his fists itch. The man was sharding lucky that he couldn't reach to punch him while they were flying.
Grumbling to himself, L'thor ripped up his bread viciously and dunked a piece into his stew. Sharding bronze riders, he wished River was here to go the idiot's weyr and repossess a few choice possessions.

R'ysan grabbed a plate and worked his way across the food heaping up his plate early. The punishment that D'astel had given was just about to begin and while he wasn't too worried about it Reg was FUSSY. And beyond that, his firelizard egg had hatched that evening! Luckily he had been there in his bed at the time and Reg noticed with her avid curiosity. So here he was, with his second baby to take care of. A tiny blue guy, that he named Snitch.
Being a baby, he really didn't want to leave the little tyke in with Reg, who was already annoyed with this three days of punishment idea. She couldn't have what she wanted so she grumbled like a kid. All he could do was assure her that she could always talk to him in his head and then stuck a few of his socks on her head knobs and tail. For some reason, she really enjoyed his socks as knob warmers. He had this strange feeling that when she got to big for his socks, he have to fork over marks to get ones made big enough for her knobs.
But back to his new challenge, Snitch! The little guy got into everything but thankfully he also slept a lot between the first few meals and R'ysan could only hope that Snitch would remain that way for the next three days.
So as he finally sat down he hadn't realized he sat close to another rider who was attacking his stew. He might have said something to the man but considering the look on the rider's face, he had a feeling it was better to let him brood with his food in peace.
R'ysan set down a worn sock on the table and out crawled the baby blue, who was still trying to get his bearings on the world. His socks were undoubtedly the most useful of all his clothes right now and that thought brought a small chuckle from his lips as he blew on a piece of meat and nudged it up towards Snitch's mouth. The baby immediately latched on and gnawed at the morsel.

In no mood for company, or at least pretending that he wasn't, he had been happily ignoring the youth until the flitt appeared. When it did, L'thor found himself grinning and resisting the urge to stroke it; it wasn't his flitt. "He's lovely," L'thor commented to the boy, who he vaguely thought might be one of the riders to Impress at the last clutch. That had been quite a drama-fest, probably as bad as the last clutch he'd seen at Ista. "He looks very young," he went one, "have you named him yet? Oh! I'm L'thor by the way, of green Raith. We transferred here just before the hatching, came from Ista. Nice to meet you." He couldn't remember what the youth had Impressed, but he was certain it wasn't a bronze - which was good - and had a faint inkling that it might have been a green - which was excellent ; he could do with a few more green rider friends around the place.

R'ysan looked up as the other man spoke rather surprised at the sudden change of mood. "Yeah, I named him. He's Snitch. And I'm...Ra...well R'ysan of green Regedth." he said with a smile although he wasn't quite used to saying his name this way yet. Things were still rather new for him and Reg so some things would take time.
It certainly was hard to be grumpy with a little baby flit on the table. "Nice ta meet ya, L'thor. I won his egg from a card game with some riders and he just hatched last night." Snitch looked up seeing that he was being spoken about and scooted along the table to peer up at L'thor and sniffed and squawked. "Not quite sure what he's going to be like yet, but he already scrambled into Reg's waterbowl more than once last night. I wish I could have gotten some more sleep since I get non-stop chores for the next three days." He rolled his eyes as he spoke about that and then took a bite of his food. The punishment seemed pretty dang silly to him considering he was used to working his a** off most of the time. When you had 5 to feed at home it didn't give much time for anything else. 24/7 to make end meet.
"So you're a green rider transfer from Ista? I've not spoken with many other green riders. So what's green flying like?" he asked as he watched Snitch start sniffing at L'thor's fingers.

"Snitch," L'thor's nose crinkled with a pleased grin, "cute! Sounds like he'll be trouble, but adorable trouble." At that age River had really started his exploits, and had frequently got himself lost, stuck in pots, and narrowly avoided being trodden on. Things had got less dangerous for the blue when he learned to fly, but far more annoying for everyone else.
"Flying," the rider continued, "is just about the best thing ever, especially for those of us with a green! We can do things, and fly at speeds, that others can only dream of and watch in envy. No doubt about it R'ysan, you hit the jackpot!" And now he wanted to go out for a fly, but Raith was exhausted from drilling so he'd just have to wait until tomorrow and content himself with telling the weyrling how amazing it was. "So tell me," L'thor said thoughtfully as he recalled something else the young man had said, "what did you do to get yourself landed with three days of chores?"
Reminded him of his own weyrlinghood; he had become very accustomed the that glare the weyrlingmaster had which meant he'd be scrubbing latrines for a sevenday. Somehow though, despite the punishments, rebelling and speaking his mind had always felt worhtwhile. He could deal with getting into a bit of trouble if it made and idiot look as dumb as he really was. He missed mouthing off a great deal, and looked forward to knowing this place well enough that his doing so wouldn't upset Raith.

"Yep, living with me...he's probably going to be in the front lines of trouble so he's got keep up. But I bet he will." said R'ysan as Snitch crawled into L'thor's hand and started trying to worm his way into the man's shirt sleeve! Tail thwaping on L'thor's palm as Snitch nosed under the cuff.
R'ysan listened to L'thor's take on flying with quite a bit of eagerness in his eyes. To be honest, he hadn't thought about it as much as some having lived his whole life on the ground and his first dragon flight was a five second lift off to a cold between then a five second down to earth with the blue rider, who had found him. "Well, I sure do feel like I've hit the jackpot! It's weird but I never thought I was incomplete until well I met Reg. She's like...mm...like my little sisters kind of but...mm...more. If you get what I mean? She's like a kid. Always wants to play and stuff." he paused for a moment then rolled his eyes again before speaking about his plight.
"Oh..that..well. Ya see, the Weyrleader/weyrlingmaster ignored my questions and so I piped up and 'asked' him again a bit more directly. So gold rider weyrling tried to 'set me straight' about my attitude so I called her to the carpet and she obliged. Needless ta say her dragon got a might bit pissy because I called it a 'pretentious flit'. So yeah, me and Amelia get major chore duty together for the next 3 days. Seems rather stupid if you ask me." It was rather a shortened summary of the scene but he figured the rumors would be rolling around the Weyr soon enough. He wasn't ashamed of anything he had done and rather pleased in some sense because most of the other weyrlings wouldn't have dared done what he did!

He was not an especially ticklish person, but something about tiny paws and claws wriggling in his hand and then on his wrist made L'thor give a short giggle. "Yes, trouble through and though," he affirmed, allowing the little blue to play as he pleased; there was no harm the flitt could do to him or to itself after all. "I do know what you mean," he went on, suppressing another giggle as the firelizard squirmed. "Before I Impressed I was perfectly happy, but I couldn't be without her now. Raith is... well I don't quite know how I'd describe her, but she keeps me in line, some of the time anyway, and loves to make fun of me."
It was nice to hear that not everyone was falling over to worship the new queen, no matter how long it had been since one had hatched. "Sounds like you were in the right to me," L'thor laughed once the weyrling had finished, "and the flitt comment was a stroke of genius! I've heard that gold doesn't think much of the 'lesser' dragons, putting her in her place must have been satisfying. When I was a weyrling I found myself in trouble quite a bit, for talking back to the weyrling master too, and for 'excessive' sarcastic comebacks to the bronze rider in my class. He thought he was the wher's balls, he really did; very attractive, but with a horrible personality." Back then he hadn't been as averse to bronze riders as he was now; it had been the boy's attitude rather than the simple fact he had a bronze that had bothered him. These days he was very quick to judge those bonded to the largest males, but couldn't seem to care very much about that; about time somebody didn't worship them.

Snitch worked up L'thor's sleeve and started sniffing at the inner part of the man's elbow. He already liked being in dark tunnel like places so hanging out inside the man's shirt sleeve was really quite fun! The squirming flit paws wriggled around the arm while the tail lashed over the forearm.
R'ysan smiled a bit at his new flit's fun and games. "He's seems to like you quite a bit." At least while the flit was having its fun he could eat a few more bites before the little guy wanted more to eat. "Mm...I don't think I could be without Reg either. It's kind of weird but the moment she talked to me, it was like something big got turned on in my head. She's always there and well right now she's grumpy and bored."
He laughed as he picked up his klah. "Oh...I think I was. Even if everyone else thinks I'm an a** for it. Ya know, it isn't color with her. She's got a low opinion of everyone. She threatened me and I basically told her to bring it." He smirked as he sipped in his drink. He'd do the same thing agai if she got all uppity with him. And he doubted that would even change when she was grown strangely enough. But he enjoyed living on the dangerous edge of life. "But, her rider, mm....she might not be so bad. She ain't afraid to stand up to a guy like me. That's gotta account for something. So yeah, I take it as it comes." Amelia did seem like a different matter. A first he hadn't thought she was much of anything but when she stood up against him, she showed a whole different woman.
"Oh? Really? Well, most of my class hasn't been worth special attention like that." he said with a wry smile as he sat down his mug. "I haven't had the time to get ta know them that much though either. Reg has been pretty demanding. Man, she likes my socks as knob and tail warmers. And now Snitch...he fell asleep in my sock the first night. Geesh. I need to find a few new pairs soon or I'm going to be barefoot!"

He was quite glad he was eating stew rather than anything that needed cutting; it meant he only needed one hand, and that he could keep the other arm still to let Snitch do whatever it was he was going to do. "I'm glad he likes me," L'thor said with a grin, "because I like him! Had four of my own before I came here, but as yet they haven't braved the weather up here to follow me... Good to hear that our new queen rider might be a decent sort though, always reassuring to know that those who will eventually get high positions no matter what they're like have at least some merit." Quite unlike Helirra, who had seemed completely ineffectual and Favan who had just been power hungry. It was early days yet, but a positive assessment from somebody he already quite liked made L'thor feel a little better about the situation.
"Raith was always more interested in shiny surfaces," the rider went on with a conspiratorial grin. "Always pestering me to hold up my hand mirror so she could see how pretty she was when she was very little. These days she can't see much of herself in one, so she uses lakes, or my eyes, though she says human eyes are no use at all of course."
"Well they aren't," the green huffed jokingly, "you're half blind the whole wing of you, I'm surprised you're not forever bumping into things."
L'thor shook his head over her and grinned back at R'ysan. "All the flitts I ever had were just obsessed with getting to sit on me. I'm sure you can picture how it was when I had four of them to cope with!"

Snitch wormed his way up L'thor shirt and was eventually on his shoulder under the shirt; his small head peeking out of the man's collar. It made L'thor look strangely like he had two heads. Snitch splayed his wings over each side of L'thor's shoulder and huffed a small yawn having worked hard to get this far.
R'ysan looked up and laughed at the sight. "Yeah. He's really pleased with himself but I think he's tuckered out. Four of your own? Wow. No wonder. I guess you must have flit attractor all over you." He grinned as the blue head bobbed up and down for a moment before snaking down along L'thor's collar bone.
"Yeah..she might be. Can't be to sure yet but you know; she probably got a better head on her than her dragon." R'ysan knew that he and Sharath probably would bump heads again. That dragon was gunning for him and he was certain about it. Oh well, he wasn't going to worry about it until she snapped at him with her shiny sharding head again.
"Oh geesh, I can't imagine what Reg would do with a mirror."
A what? asked Reg as she lay down in her bed sulking. She wanted to play and the weyrling barracks were BORING! I want a mirror! Whatever it is.
"Ugh, I would have had to think that too." R'ysan said as he shook his head. I don't have a mirror...but I'll acquire one... He thought back and pondered how he would filch one from the women or maybe from a gather in the future.
"Oh yeah. I bet you've had to work out quite a bit with four of them hanging on you." he smirked back at L'thor. "I think one will be enough with Reg around. At least, until she grows up."

"Oh dear," L'thor chuckled, stroking Snitch's head with one finger, "what have I got you in to? I'll do my best not to mention too many different kinds of shinies in front of you in future." Shinies made him think of the copper bangle he wore around his left wrist and smile slightly; V'kain. He missed his old friend out here, even though they made sure to see each other at least once a sevenday it wasn't the same as living with him. Still, V'kain hadn't wanted to come, and he hadn't wanted to stay, that was just how life was.
"It got interesting at times, feeding time in particular," L'thor grinned. "Wings and tails flapping in my face as all of them tried to get to the bowl before I could put it down. About the only time Dusk actually got energetic, when he was trying to shove his fat face into the trough."

Snitch stretched out his small head to get full use of that finger! A small coo filtered out from his lips as his tiny nails kneaded into L'thor's shoulder all content. Wings flapped a bit under the shirt as the flit got tickled by the scritching.
R'ysan sighed and shook his head,"Yeah, she likes shinies too. Or she probably will once she gets to see more of them. But better that than the angry brute that Janga's got. I'd be dealing with dominance games all dang day with that beast."
"Well I guess I'm going to be looking forward to at least one set of flapping wings wanting food." He smirked as he watched Snitch squirm for snuggles. "So whatcha think of this Weyr? Mm? I've been slowly taking things in and well having not been to any other Weyr, I'm not sure how this one rates."

Those little claws really were sharp, but too tiny to really do damage and he didn't want to shove the beast off just for a minor ouch. L'thor grinned and continued his tickling; adorable flitts were well worth ouchies. "This Weyr," L'thor said slowly, thoughtfully. "I like it," he went on eventually, "but I don't like its weather. Never gets as cold as it is at the minute back at Ista, and we've not even hit winter yet; brr. I miss being able to laze out in the sun on my weyr-ledge, but over all this place comes out on top. There might only be wherries for Raith to eat, but at least they're not scrawny, and there's plenty of them. Ista was horribly overcrowded see, our tithes were barely supporting us by the time I left."
Thinking of food, L'thor paused to take another mouthful of stew. It was only vegetable, but they were good vegetables, and it was seasoned well. The bread was excellent, too. "The crowds just got you down in the end," he went on with a shake of his head, "everywhere you went there were crowds, and along with there there were lice, and frequent bouts of illness. As for political matters... I'm not sure I've got a proper feel for this place yet, but the Weyrwoman seems decent, not like at Ista where the woman just sat on her thumbs while we got sick and our dragons ate low quality beasts. I always suspected that the golds went off with their riders to some secret stash of nice beasts; not a chance she'd have let her dragon eat what the rest of them had to." Perhaps he was being unfair... Oh wait, he didn't care if he was fair or not; the woman had let them get into a sharding awful situation, he didn't owe her anything, let alone the benefit of the doubt.

Snitch cooed and squirmed as he was tickled eventually pulling himself up to cling just a L'thor's neck stretching enough to peek into L'thor's mouth as he talked. The flit obviously had a thing for dark spaces like this because the opening and closing of L'thor's mouth got his head bobbing along.
R'ysan laughed as he watched, "Don't leave that open to long or he'll crawl right in." He almost reached over but it seemed that L'thor was much happier with Snitch squirming around him like some sort of jungle jim.
"Well I suppose I got lucky then for getting searched for this Weyr. I don't mind the weather all that much. But lice and overcrowding, it would piss me off and I'd probably say my fair share of choice words. I ain't one to mince the particulars if someone's an idiot. I'd probably have ended up getting kicked out long before finding my dragon if I had been there." He actually was a bit relieved that he got placed in a decent Weyr considering what he had just heard.
As L'thor leaned to take a mouthful of stew, Snitch snitched a taste from the spoon. His little tongue flicking in quickly at the broth as it came to L'thor's big mouth. He pulled his small head around and stared at the mouth listening to the sounds of chewing teeth and swallowing throat.
"But you know the beach sounds like fun, Reg wants to adventure so I'm thinking that she might like to see the beach." He mused at the thought because Reg gave him opportunities he would have never seen if he had remained a holder. Although, he had to wonder in the short time he had been gone if his parents had sobered up enough to realize he had even left.
"Pretty good thing that you were able to cut and run from that place, I think. Seems like a bad situation for dragon and man alike." he nodded thoughtfully, "I've heard that there's another Weyr...mmm...Telgar that's not to far but I've not heard great things. Have you? Maybe when Reg get's big, I can go Weyr hopping just to take a look."

Keeping a close eye on Snitch, he didn't want to bite the little blighter by mistake if he decided to poke his head into the interest dark place, L'thor gave a slight shrug. "I know a bit from scoping my options out. Their queen is quite old, but still in power when I was looking at moving. There's two junior queens who could take over, one more vicious than the other. Over all it sounded like a better option than Ista from a practical standpoint, but they have an issue with men who openly like other men, so I came here instead. Don't think much of girls on fighting dragons either," he added taking more stew, and remaining mindful of Snitch as he ate.
"My wingleader's a bit stiff on female riders, which is decidedly more than annoying considering two friends of mine who also came from Ista with greens are girls. I'd love to punch the man, but until I'm a bit more established I'm restraining myself. I don't want to get labeled as trouble and moved on to a different Weyr, I don't want to go back to Ista, and as I say I don't fancy Telgar either. So far as I know, none of the others would be too interested in taking on a transfer right now." He didn't want to go back to Ista. He almost had for the first few sevendays, but now he definitely didn't. He still missed a few people a great deal, V'kain and Veyes among them, but he couldn't return for more than visits, couldn't stand returning to that environment even for the company and the weather.
