The Yectenehua Herd

Originally starting through the shared affections of Cuauhcoatl, an Angeni of the South Americas, and Ikinya, an Usdia from Africa.

With a love that many would not understand, the two decided they would welcome all who were 'Good people' that were outside of the norm of regular society. May all who enter be blessed, and all with good in their hearts are welcome.

Herd 'objective' is to protect and give a home to outcasts and those who are considered taboo by others but are good people, if misunderstood, as well as be open to anyone who is a good enough person: Not willing to torment others or kill other soquili. Must not torture prey, even if hunters -- kills should be quick, clean, and respectful to the prey. And always double check to make sure they are not "Spirit Touched" (aka Familiars) to prevent your predation from becoming murder.

The Primary home of Yectenehua resides to the west of kawani territories, in a somewhat small peninsula guarded by the ocean and steep mountains, with only a narrow mountain pass to enter for those unable to fly high enough or climb part of the way. The land within is cut vertically with a single winding river, the river mouth dominating the tip of it.

In the middle, a small village has been formed over the years, with long houses and bath houses of sorts, food storage facilities... And, even a steam bath Swim canals set up for aquatic members to be able to join the landwalkers. Originally yectenehua formed to the northewest in the mountain valleys, and the small, single longhouse location is kept as an away station and location where flying individuals tend to be the main travelers there, since the main path toward it has since been occupied by The Flock. This location is relatively 'amphibious' and, at times, might be mistaken for a human village at a distance. However, upon closer inspection, its quite obvious it had been built by Cuauhcoatl in his human form and Handed familiars such as Raccoons and Squirrels with the assistance of other members. Each project is done by all members of the herd capable of assisting in some way, as well as any guests staying there for an education or to weather the winter. Some houses are built directly over ponds to allow aquatic members to warm up and stay in the village rather than migrating into the ocean for the winter or join in herd discussions.

Earthlodges have been dug out and built up to create food storage areas, and farms, gardens, and orchards continue to develop as the herd works together, some of them learning gardens for guests and youngsters to learn the basics of agriculture. Many members who stay help with the harvest and planting and tending

Smaller sanctuaries, often set up for small wandering groups to find a safe place to rest, are scattered all between the two main locations, and are often left with messages and Harpy eagles who act as messangers, friends of Xochicoatl, Cuauhcoatl's 'sister', that would lead those in need of a home to Yectenehua, or simply warn them of approaching danger and keep them safe.

These small sanctuaries are usually just a few yards wide, not really made for resting, but near safe, clean water source and some shade. Each sanctuary, large or small, has a border of small, simple totems, and is centered by a larger totem of varying complexity, and covered with imagry of different species, including mutants and hybrids.

The two larger sanctuaries seem to form small cities of totems as the tallest one fills up and more members join, covered in decorations from feathers and beads to bones and silks. Members often leave a bit of personal property or hair and place it with the totem in an attempt to keep themselves safe when they leave the safety of the territory.

At first, life seemed to be... Serene. Cuauhcoatl had found the love of his life, an Usida named Ikinya, and was helping a single father care for his children as he sought for one lost in the woods, and had returned with not only her, but their mother as well. They had an adoptive Usida son growing into a fine young man, and a young women he had met while she was still but a foal, came for family and sanctuary shortly after they rescued another young stallion from possible death.

And they had a dear friend, who had agreed to acting as a surrogate mother since he and his beloved could not bear children together... And had just given birth to three children, placed lovingly by their biological mother into the enchanted baskets that would keep them safe and fed as they to the state of development lesser 'horses' were born directly into, and their Usida mother waded into the middle of the three baskets, happily thanking their friend for the gift she had given them.

However, that was when things began to change.

While their biological mother was a good mare, and only had the best of intentions, she stole away in the night during a thunderstorm with one of the baskets, hiding it away so she could return for the others, fearing her children were to be reared believing the smaller soquili was their true mother, that the stallion she had hoped would realize it was madness to be with an Usida and would instead love her and be just friends with the other one rather then the other way around, truly was in love with Ikinya.

However, as she came for the other two, the father stood strong and protective of the other ones, pleading to know where the other was, and why she was doing this -- she wouldn't be left out of the family, she could still be with her children, they would know she was their biological mother, just as Ikinya was their adoptive mother. Kayla could be a part of their life, but they were just as much theirs as they were hers, so she could not take them away from them.

Upset, confused, and unsure of herself, knowing she wouldn't be able to get past the large angeni to 'rescue' any more of her own children, she lashed out verbally, spilling her feelings out -- That Cuauhcoatl was sick for wanting to raise her children with, not only an usida for a mother and brother, but around meat eaters such as the quarter kalona kaliska and the mutant Kalona mix of Darius "Chompy". That something was wrong, and that she'd die trying to keep the one child she had managed to save safe from his madness.

And then she fled into the darkness of the stormy night, where the stallion was grounded and would be unable to bring light to follow.

--------

The aftermath shook the small, unnamed herd to the very root. They knew Kayla was a good mare, and a kind caring soul -- with everything combined about what their group was finally broke her resolve, it was more then possible that they were not a group allowed by regular society. And to make matters worse, Mecho returned without his son from a trading trip -- Harpy's had taken Cabriole as a pet. And they were not large enough in number to rescue him.

Feeling powerless, Cuauhcoatl stayed with the remaining two baskets, he shifted into his human form and began to carve a totem, putting his heart and soul into into it, and put some of his angeni light into it as a blessing that would hopefully steer evil away.

Exiting his longhouse, he planted the tall totem into the ground, and declared their herd to be Yectenehua, which in the Nahuatl language he felt most at home with, meant "to bless".

He then shifted back to his horse form to pray that all of those who moved as members of yectenehua would remained blessed even outside the gaze of their totem, and for those who were good could find a sanctuary to call home.

With this blessing, The first Sanctuary of Yectenehua was born.

Members of the herd are not restricted to just the protection of Yectenehua -- many who live in or have alliance to other herds may simply have a secondary residence. They are also free to travel on their own from the boundaries of the herd lands to their hearts content.

Honorary members are those who are good people (though, like full time members, they don't have to be all sugar and Rainbows -- just who have yearned their trust but don't wish to feel like they have any reason to return on a regular basis.

Professions within the herd, descriptions, and who hold such titles. Soquili are able to hold more then one profession, or can opt to have none.

Protectors

Protectors are are often strong, able minded stallions (and mares) of a level of intelligence, size, and strength to protect those who live within in case of attack from outsiders, able to quickly learn to use the weapons created from Cuauhcoatl's stores of knowledge.

Gatherers

Food and supplies are an important thing -- while patches are set aside for farming, the herd is fresh and the crop off limits until enough seeds are gathered and the crops have a year to grow for harvest. Because of this, food must be gathered for the young and weak. Other materials, as well, are of importance. Wood, stones, feathers -- items that can be used as trade and for craft are required to aide in creating good relations with neighboring herds and opening ties to secure friendships and protection.

Hunters

Not all soquili who eat meat are evil, and those that do eat meat need to follow their nature in natural, non cannibalistic ways. To keep the carnivores and omnivores of the herd well sated, hunters are vital as the numbers of those outcast for being mutants or hybrids of a non-murderous or evil temperament increase, unwelcomed by most of Kawani. May also be required to capture game live for domestication, such as gamehens.

Caretakers

Caretakers are exactly as it sounds, they are the ones who take care of the tribe from the inside. Caretakers watch over the foals while parents could be busy with their professions, care for the sick and wounded, and often handle showing around any new members to the herd untill they're comfortable. Caretakers can be male or female, young (young adult) or old; species isn't an issue as well even though it would benefit greatly if they had one or two unicorns on staff.

Teachers

In a herd where professions and two legged skills are applied to daily activities and survival of this diverse gathering, Teachers are held in importance. They teach how to use the various weapons and tools needed to work, yet they also teach of life, lessons and knowledge. Our very own Cuauhcoatl is the head teacher, able to pass down the knowledge of everything he makes and knows to other various teachers to show the other members of the herd.

Ambassadors are certian individuals who represent the herd and showcase with pride their love of the teachings and life they live amongst their herdmates. While not necessarily recruiting, Ambassadors spread the word of the herd to others and if need be escort any in need back to the herdlands where they can receive aid if they so need it. Ambassadors are often the links to the 'outside world' of the herdlands they call home, so any member considering this profession would need to be able to return to the Soquili lands through the temperate forest if interested in the Earth position.

Due to the nature of the herd, there is a wide range of cultures within the herd itself, thus resulting in there being different constructs, though all must be fairly simple in build since, at the time, Cuauhcoatl is the only pure angeni with the ability to form a solid illusion of being human, and can only do so for short periods at a time, so most have to be prepared in manors that they can be assembled by Soquili and Familiars themselves. Many also live simply out in the open.

While Soquili and Humans are unable to communicate save through Corvid (Crow, Raven, Magpie) translators, and even then only the shortest phrases since, while capable of speaking the soquili language they are unable to speak more then the roughest phrases such as Yes, no, more, less, Left, right, up, Good, and Danger in the two-legger tongue they have learned, some Two-leggers may even decide to join or simply live in the area, sometimes aiding the soquili if they realize what they are doing. This, however, is to be INCREDIBLY Rare (And Permission only, RP required)

The most common thing is a Wigwam -- a Teepee made out of tree bark, a material easily accessible and harvested by soquili. There are however two Longhouses in the southern territory at the moment, the large one used as a group sleep, with an overhang over the aquatic's 'pool' in the heart of the Southern territory, and a smaller one primarily used to house Collections and store foods.

Some families may desire private homes: the herd works together gathering materials. They take several months to two years to build, depending on the type and size, and the Herd works together to build.

Family Constructs Currently Built

Cuauhcoatl's Collection Longhouses: Usually just used for storage while sleeping in the big longhouse with everyone in his family's 'cubby' area. Classes are taught on a soft rise next to it. One is a Library, another is things collected by Cuauhcoatl himself, and others are collections from members of the herd to add to the collection

Big Longhouses: Longhouses set up for the different families

Roosting Wigwam: Near the big wigwam -- most of the Bird Familiars sleep here.

Crafters Grasshouse: A beehive like structure where those who know how to do crafts produce goods. USUALLY Bird familiars, and Raccons, but Angeni that can produce a human illusion to manipulate items can work in here to make things. Accessory building materials such as feathers, shells, and stones are stored here.

Joining the herd is fairly simple: One must meet a member of the herd (RP or plot), and then, if of a Kalona decent, meet Cuauhcoatl (owned by Mindsend). RP is preferred, but heavy plotting and chat about your character can be used at times. If your character doesn't sound like they'd fit, they wont get in, and send a PM to Yectenehua Herd. If you don't get a response within a week, send a Pm to Mindsend.

We'd prefer it if you CAN be open for RP with all other members, even if its minor, especially since we're open and welcoming to ALL kinds of soquili and Familiars as long as they are Good people. So you're character may be RPing with GLBT Soquili, Usida, Seathi, Mers, FAMILIARS or those of the soquili breeds.

While those who are neutral/apathetic/struggling may join, however as soon as they show signs of violence toward other members they will get chased out. As an Angeni, Cuauhcoatl can tell if a Kalona practices or has the soul/mind for the black magics they are capable of, that the good, so only Non-traditionally evil type breeds (Regular, Kelpie, flutter, mutants) can trick him.

Skinwalkers are NOT welcome, and will be noticed if they sneak in as their beastly form.

Other herds are welcome to share members with/join/or form within Yectenehua, as well, you are not forced to stay within Yectenehua's territory.

Q: WTF? An Usdia and an regular template Soquili?! You do Realize they can't breed, right?

A: We are quite aware that the mated pair that created the herd, as well as any others that follow suit with similarly unbreedable pairings such as homosexual or cross 'species' breedings, aren't actually able to mate -- breedings would be handled adoption and Surrogates if at all, by the choice of the owners -- but are rather pairings developed through RP and heavy plotting. We encourage cross template Roleplay at Yectenehua, since many people who RP Usdia, mers, and Seathi, have given them stunning personalities and are unfortunately find it difficult to find RP for their unusual species.

Not all Roleplay has to eventually lead to the possibility of baskets, and even if you can't RP an Usdia yourself, you're not the one who's controlling them. Due to the set up of the (semi-non-canon) area the herd is settled upon, it is easier for Mers and Seathi to interact with land Soquili of the non Kelpi sort.

Q: omg u hav purdy ponies, can i have one?/ lol

A: Beggers aren't welcome anywhere on Soquili, much less in locations such as herds. Please locate yourself to the main thread, or to newbie introductions catagory. Do not post in other people's threads, it is rude.

More to come
