It had been quite a few sevendays since the (in his opinion) disastrous Hatching occurred, Leicha's wounded finally well enough he could move around and perform daily activities without causing himself too much pain. He still had to keep his arm and sides wrapped and covered with salves, to prevent them from getting dirt, though the wound on his face was open for everyone to see. It was only a slight scratch, the blood from that night only making it seem worse in all the panic, and Leicha felt he'd be lucky enough to get away with only minor scars.

He'd been tasked today to go help out at the wherry pins, shoveling dung and assisting with whatever else came up during his stay, so Leicha had dressed himself in clothes he wouldn't have minded tossing into a ditch somewhere when everything was over. He wore shoes in need of a good tossing as well, so if he were to get thoroughly covered Leicha wouldn't be out much in the terms of possessions.

As he strode out towards the pens where the beasts were kept he stiffly moved his arms to pull his hair back, ready for action. Leicha didn't expect that there would be anyone else out here, it was rather early and he wanted a head start on tasks for the day. The sooner he could get things done the better and with no one around it meant he didn't have to have any conversations that would idle him further.

The sun warming his back, Zacharai perched on the top rail of the fence surrounding the dragons' food critters. He watched the herds plod back and forth, milling uneasily as if they knew at any moment a hungry dragon would crash down in the middle of them and snatch them up.

Which, in all likelihood, could happen at any moment.

A movement out of the corner of his eye made him turn his head, and he watched a boy stroll towards the pens, his arms wrapped in clean cloth. Cocking his head, Zacharai recalled the boy getting mauled at the Hatching and felt a pang of sympathy. But he seemed well enough, and another moment later he remembered his name; Leicha.

Although he knew the names of many at the Weyr, his lack of socialization with anyone meant he knew -only- their names. It seemed, however, that that might change, as Leicha drew closer, seemingly oblivious to Zacharai on his perch.

It didn't take long for Leicha to notice that there was someone else out at the pens, his eyesight quite good as he picked up another figure before him. He didn't say anything as a greeting, instead only bobbing his head as moved towards the different shovels and buckets that were used for cleaning the pens. There was a chance this kid was out here for nothing more than the morning air, so Leicha didn't bother to try and start anything.

It was in his task to clean up as much as he could, what with the hatchlings and the dragons always milling around here, so he began without further delay. It was only when his shoulder started to ache as he moved that Leicha even made a sound, a thin hiss of pain, and he lowered the shovel as his hand gingerly moved to the wrappings on his arm.

"Shards. Thought I could move it better than this."

With a slight frown, Zach slipped from his perch with a nimble landing and strolled towards the other man. It wasn't that Zach was anti-social; he simply did not know how to start a conversation with many people. But even so, he always offered a greeting when passing anyone. It irked him a little that Leicha did nothing more than casually bob his head.

The hiss the other uttered made him c**k his head to one side and he stopped before Leicha, reaching for a shovel as well, his whiskey colored eyes taking in the wraps. "Would you like a hand?"

. . . .So he was coming over after all. Leicha had hoped inwardly that this guy would leave him along even though he'd hissed with mild irritation over a wrap rub, but it looked like people in the Weyr would always be the 'good intending' sorts. In a way that was a curse and a blessing, since people always knew your business and you most certainly knew theirs.

"I should be alright, just a little sore. Haven't quite recovered yet."

Leicha didn't know this person so it wasn't like he was going to spill out everything, but . . . he probably wouldn't have said anything either even if he'd known him. That's just how he was.

"You're welcome to help if you want though, I can't stop you. It'll make the work go by faster and we can both get in before people start to mill around here like cattle."

Cocking his head at the somewhat cool response, Zach shrugged and silently set about his work, pausing only when a rather spirited green suddenly appeared on the back of a wherry, the creature squealing in surprised terror before it was hastily and voraciously consumed.

"That is one event I never tire of seeing," he said with a laugh, watching the green lazily take to the air for a sun along the rim of the Weyr bowl.

"Really? I've watched it happen almost every day of my life here in the Weyr, so it's no more interesting to me now then it was then. More than anything its loud and messy."

What was entertaining about it was seeing how the Candidates who came from Craft and Hold reacted towards their first sight of a dragon eating. Many of them would panic, some showed happiness and delight, while even more were sickened and had to be excused elsewhere. Leicha had never been that way, but like he'd said - this was second nature.

He paused at his shoveling, having developed somehow the skill to focus on work and speech at the same time, but his pause now was to wipe his face. A bit of sweat had rolled down his cheeks and off his chin, the chill of the day not helping against the heat created by a working body. His bandages were working themselves loose as well, but he could ignore that and later use it in the infirmary to show people didn't know what they were doing.

"But if I had to say I liked something about the dragons around here, probably when they go into their training games. It's interesting to watch the wings move in perfect formations."
