How many do you speak, write, read fluently?
Which would you like to learn?

I speak, read and write french and english (Quebec french to be more exact. We kind of butchered the language lol)

English was my first language and I learned french at about 4yrs old. My father's side of the family is french, my half cousin doesn't speak a word of english. My mother's side of the family is english. One of my aunts, her two kids and my grandmother don't speak a word of french. So family get togethers are always interesting.

My mother is Frenglish. One of my fav quotes from her is "S'il vous plait, cut the grass short, merci. "

It's borderline impossible to get by in Quebec if you can't speak both languages. (My english family lives moved to Ontario). Everyone here is bilingual. So when customers use to say "PARDON!" when I told them how much their purchase was after saying Bonjour, HI and getting no response it really annoyed me. Like I know you understood me! If you want me to speak to you in french, at least respond when I say Bonjour so I know what freaking language you speak.

But you see we have these retarded language laws. It's pretty hard to get into an english school and if you do you still have to learn french. French has to be the first language you use when greeting people, god forbid you'd say Hi, Bonjour! And everything MUST be labelled in french or you're not allowed to sell it. Meaning there's a lot of awesome stuff you can't buy here on account of the company can't be bothered to have french labels made. Oh and the french has to be twice as big as the english.... Someone once commented on how messed up it is that in Quebec, we have bilingual homeless. Like being bilingual is considered quite a skill in many places and would land you a job. Heck, most of my friends know three languages! and they're in dead end jobs. Okay rant over.

One nice thing about french is it's very similar to spanish and portuguese, many european languages and it's easy to pick up what people are saying.

However, for some retarded reason, I'm only interested in the extremely difficult languages. Like I think Japanese and Gaelic are the most beautiful languages and I'd love to learn them when I'm not drowning in exams and projects.

I attempted to learn sign language when I was working as a bike patroller. Mainly as something to do to pass the time while we sat in empty parks. (Basically we were neighborhood watch)

I speak English and I used to be able to read French fluently, and understand a native speaker if they spoke slowley for me. I used to be able to hold general conversations in French, but not using it for 3-5 years has made me rusty. At this point I may be able to hold a conversation with a toddler sweatdrop

Only English. Spanish comes as a second language, but I really don't like it very much. I passed Spanish class with an A. My sister, on the other hand, sees a word and instantly knows it. She watches Spanish soaps for fun. Gahhhhh I need to find a language I like gonk

Ya I know how that is. Working with the public constantly my french was pretty good. I didn't have to translate in my head it just came out instinctively. Now that I've been off work for so long, whenever I try to hold a conversation with one of my french classmates I'm searching for my words.

I think toddlers are the hardest to understand! I use to baby sit these kids who were pure frenglish, they honestly didn't know the difference between french and english. I use to have to ask them "do you want to watch the movie like this ou veut tu le regarder come sa?"and they didn't care. But they mostly spoke french and I couldn't make out a word they said.

Quebec is like that though lol, it's the only place I know of where you can ask for "deux hot dog all dress" , and it's considered french.

My dad use to make me watch one french TV show a day so I wouldn't lose my french. So I watched Sonic le Rebel. xd

OMG you must find and watch Bon Cop Bad Cop!!!
Only someone who speaks both can really appreciate that movie and it is the greatest movie ever!

I'd kind of like to learn it because it seems to be the third most common language spoken here in Canada. But if I had the time to commit to learning a new language, I think stupidly I'd conquer the really hard ones first or try lol

I said toddlers because that's how far my vocab has fallen crying I'll have to look up that movie. I think I saw it on Netflix ninja

I'd like to learn German, I was going to take it in HS, but the teacher was aweful. I knew people who had taken all 4 years and all they knew was how to ask if someone spoke german.
I'd also like to learn at least on eastern language. Japanese, Korean, Cantonese. There are tons of Asians who work around me and it can be very frustrating trying to explain things to people who don't speak english, or at least pretend not to speak english stare

In my 1rst attempt to learn Japanese. (In the middle of midterms, I had just watched the last samurai and decided thats it, im learning it damnit! Because I kind of wanted to for years, since I was one of those ppl who watched Naruto with subtitles for like over a year and yet only picked up a few words.) ANYWHO, it would appear that it's much easier for us english speaking folk to learn japanese than for japenese to learn english. See we have soooo many sounds that we make I forget the number, but, hundreds, and they have a total of 110. So not only do they have to learn the language, they have to learn to make all these new sounds.

I took 4 years of Japanese in high school.. and I'm taking a course of it next semester in college. It's a fun language.. the different alphabets is what I have most trouble with.
That's cool that you speak french, I think it's a pretty language.
