I had a bad bacterial disease in my 20 gallon that killed everything. I want to clean everything really well, and start over. Normally I use vinegar to clean fish stuff, but what ever this was was pretty nasty, so I was thinking of nuking everything with bleach and then rinsing really well and letting it totally dry before doing anything else. Will this be OK? Also I have a large plastic driftwood decoration, with plastic plants and everything, that was in the tank and I still want to use. I worry it will be too hard to rinse if I bleach it (it's hollow inside). Also, it has some really hard to remove dark green algae on it. Any suggestions?

Bleach is fine. When you let it dry it should mostly dissipate, then when you fill it back up, use extra dechlorinator. Bleach is honestly the best thing to do when you have a bad infection, either that or buying all new equipment.

Also as for the algae, some people say you can only remove that kind with a razor, but try using one of those "Mr. Clean" magic erasers. They work pretty well for removing algae as long as the surface of your tank is smooth and not scratched or anything.

I meant the log was covered in algae. I was trying to think of how to clean and disinfect the decoration (it's plastic)

Ooh, my bad. Try baking soda. If it's a hard plastic, you might be able to get away with boiling it too.
