The Oak grove is the exclusive garden of the Oak Dorm. Students housed i Oak Dorm may use the grove as a place to relax outside and chat with friends or to be alone with their thoughts.

Though it is called the Oak Grove, the only Oak tree is an impressive 500 year old grandfather tree. The large branches spread out low to the ground so students can climb up and sit in the tree. Harming any part of the tree is forbidden, and it is said that anyone who preforms a negative act toward the tree is cursed. The rest of the garden is made of low hedges and wooden benches.

This grove is open to all students on campus

It took a while for him to just relax. Len sat on a nearby bench, a slight wind's breeze passing. Daylight was still out, and no one was seen to be around- or at least, not yet. Part of him was on guard, while part of him just stared into the lush gardens. He wondered who took care of such a place, or rather how. More and more things that seemed overall improbable was done- amazing how small a world was. He sighed in content- this place reminded him of the small area of a park near... home. He froze, if only for a moment, then sighed again.

[Colin Hayes]

A tall, dark haired boy walked through the garden, black ear-buds stuck in his ear and blasting 30 Seconds to Mars, while a Iphone, a gift from his parents on his 16th, was clutched in his left hand, fingers from his right occasionally tapping it to go through photos or select something or change the screen.

School had been going well enough for Colin, who had never especially enjoyed it in the first place anyway. He got good grades, but most of the time he would rather be drumming or hanging out with his sister or sleeping. His most favorite class so far had been music, which he excelled in because of his skill and inclination towards it.

He turned a corner, and glancing up, he saw another guy sitting at what he had declared to be his favorite bench. He held back his sigh with some effort and moved to take a seat across from the bench, one earbud out and bouncing his leg along with his favorite song. He could hear his sister in his head chastising him to be more social, so he made eye contact with the guy and gave him a nod, if just to shut up that voice.

((Style would be prettier if I wasn't sleepy...sorry. XD))

Even before making eye contact, Len knew that the guy in front of him was agitated at him- his empathy told him so. Len felt apprehensive- should he ask what was wrong? But then, he was the problem... He should probably act totally normal and just ignore it. That became option A... And option B stood for standing up and wanting to walk away. Both felt like they would bring a bad first impression- so he opted for option C...

... Which brought back the ideas of asking what was wrong, then standing up and walking away. Not a win-win plan, but it at least worked with his best interests.

"Hello," He spoke.

Samyule, too, was feeling the pressure of being closed in for too long. He was used to a nomadic life, and this settling down thing didn't do much for his nerves. The room was small, but adequate, and the grounds were large, but here there were no circus tents, no equipment to practice on, no stages with elaborate pulley systems built in. It was numbingly normal, this school. It was cold, too. The air here was crisp and damp. It smelled of the trees and the grass and the plants. He missed the soothing warmth of the sun back home.

His walk was lonely until he came upon two of his dorm-mates sitting outside and across from each other. He recognized them as belonging to the same floor, and having rooms nearby his, but they'd never really spoken to one another. Each had their own usual routine and generally followed it religiously.

He stood back, wondering why they were so uncomfortable and decided that he would endeavor to breech the gap that the first boy had opened. "Hey. We're floor mates, right?" His voice was heavy and rich, full of India spice and a twinge of learned American accenting. Though it was easily understandable, his mishmash of an accent was a product of his time spent among many different nationalities of people who all used English as common language ground.

The tall British boy couldn't help but let a little bit of his annoyance slip away at the quiet hello he was given; he had a feeling that socializing wasn't something he often did, so Colin could relate. He wasn't an essentially social creature.

He gave the guy another nod, this one a polite greeting instead of a sharp gesture. He turned his head as the hedges rustled a bit before another male came around the corner.

Colin looked to this new arrival, recognition flickering on in his eyes for a second before it was squirreled away. He'd seen this guy on campus before, reading or chatting up girls or just wandering around looking faintly bored.

"Yeh, I fink so." Replacing some of his 'ts' with 'fs' was a habit he had picked up from his sister, but he had an excuse. He was British, and they could talk however the heck they wanted.

"It's...Samyule, righ'?" He asked, having a feeling he was correct in his guess. He'd heard some other people talking to him once when Colin walked by the congregation of picnic tables outside of the cafeteria and that was the name he had been called.

((... I'm going to have to get use to role playing with 3 people))
Amazing how one simple plan would backfire.

He glanced at the taller boy who dared breech the gap. He sensed agitation from him also- no... It was because this place felt uncomfortable. Nice to know they had something in common. But with option C now out (and every other option for that matter), he resigned with the same reluctance to meet anyone. He broke off eyecontact with the other boy and looked up with a dulled pair of honey eyes.

"Hello," he muttered the same greeting, talking to the boy. He cringed slightly at the way the other boy spoke- was he British? He wondered but dared not ask.

((No worries, we'll work with you, darling. That's the fun of RPing. Just relax and go with it))

Now this was interesting. Samyule had heard Colin's voice before, naturally, as they lived so closely. However, he had thought he heard the BBC or something rather than Colin's actual voice. A Brit...how curious. He tried to suppress his natural urge to grimace, and managed to keep the surprise and dismay from showing on his face. He had an excellent stage mask. Nothing need go wrong, there were always safety nets in place.

"Yes, Samyule Perry. You are....?"
He trailed off giving both of them an opportunity to fill in the blank. Not only was he curious about this strange British creature sitting there - obviously he wasn't of the same class his parent's employers were. He wasn't of the nobility, and maybe that made the difference - but he was curious about the other person there. He was quiet, and seemed troubled by their presence, but Samyule was determined to at least get a name out of him.

((Edited))
Len relaxed just a bit. Despite his initial reluctance, he knew he needed to make the best of the situation- after all, he was going to live here for a while, and it would be hard to avoid them for long. He slumped into the bench in an attempt to calm himself and the wind tied to him.

"My name is Len... Len Claremont."

The atmosphere was full of reluctance, annoyance, and dismay- not a very good sign to Len. It was hard to sound cheerful knowing this- the fact that he contributed to this was a pain he kept to himself. He hesitated, leaving the pause in between , sighing at heart afterwards. I guess we'll be here for a while...

"Colin Hayes." Just to be polite, Colin flicked off 30 Seconds to Mars and pulled his ear-bud from his ear to show that he was interested in the conversation, even though he would rather be left alone, as usual.

His eyes, gray at the moment, flicked over to the boy, Len, who looked a bit younger then himself. It would be best to be civil, and not his normal somewhat snarky self.
"Pleased to properly meet you both, them." That would do just fine. Leave it to the Indian boy to get the conversation going.

User ImageHe heaved a sigh mentally. Neither of them seemed particularly inclined to talk. Len, and Colin. Both of them were quiet men, trying to live anonymously, but still also trying to be noticed. Whether or not they realized their need, Samyule didn't know. He didn't know if he was accurate in their desire for friendship, either, but he figured that it was a better guess than just saying they both just happened to sit down across from each other with no intention of being friendly or striking up acquaintances. That went against human nature. Or at least, his nature.

"Ah, well nice to meet both of you, though we've been living close enough to each other. You guys been into town yet? I hear that the other students all go there when things get too claustrophobic in the Academy." It was idle chatter aimed at getting them to at least reveal more about their personalities to him. Who were they in the game of social behavior? Who was the predator, and who was the prey? His gaze flickered lightly on Colin, his mind subtly wary of his coldness. Len, he seemed decent enough if coaxed from under his shell.

"Actually, I haven't. I did catch sight of it, though,"

It irked him that there was a town nearby- that meant people other than those within the academy. Though, there didn't seem to be many places- the most he counted were four. They had signs and display windows on them as well, and they were probably shops. He had little money to spend in such things -poverty seemed to anchor him down- so it proved to be a waste of time for him to pay it a visit other than some time outside of the school.

But those thoughts weren't said, and he had no intention on expressing them. He look over to the Brit- Colin, wasn't it?- and hoped to hear an account of the place.

Colin felt the eyes of the other two boys on him, so he figured he should put on a show. He looked at both of them carefully, for just a few seconds, before speaking.

"Yeh, it's alrigh'. Bi' used to tha shops back in Glastonbury, bu' those are nice enough.." He looked thoughtful for a moment, trying to picture the layout of the little village in his minds eye. It was small, with a couple shops and several homes for the people who lived there. Despite its size, it was always bustling and Colin enjoyed its 'old world charm.'

"My sister dragged me down there las' week for some reason 'o otha." There was a certain amount of fondness in his voice when he spoke of Ella, pretty much the only person in the world he opened up to.
"It was, as I said, nice enough. Lotsa people to socialize wiv, if you're inta that sorta stuff. Good, if you like bein around people."The smirk hovering at the corner of his mouth said he probably didn't very much.

User ImageSamyule raised an eyebrow. "Glastonbury? as in, the Glastonbury famous for producing Haggis McLeod, the juggler?" The name caught his attention and sparked his interest. Circus was in his blood now, and juggling was among his favorite things to do. It fit his abilities perfectly, hand-eye coordination being what it was in him. His powers amplified it exponentially. The balls, rings, pins, whatever he was throwing seemed to go slower like in those high-tech movies. "Interesting." This bit of information also confirmed that Mr. Hayes and his anonymous sister were not of the rich uppers. It was a small village, he'd learned from his studies of McLeod, and not notable for much else besides Christian pilgrimages.

"Ah, that reminds me...the reason we're all here. What do you guys, you know, do? Like...what are your powers?" He wondered if they all had abilities as mundane as his were. All he could do was be a better athlete. He'd heard of a little girl around here who could burn things at will, he'd seen people walking around with wings of all things. The showman in him hated being upstaged, but he had to admit that next to other powers, his were embarrassingly bland.

He listened to Colin's short account, and kept them in mind. As for that small smile, he had no clue what that was about- fondness over a memory? He had to keep Colin's character in mind, if he could get it right. When Samyule said something about a famous juggler, he found the atmosphere finally smoothing over idle chat. As if on cue, Samyule's question rang into his head.

"I..."

He faltered as he read envy- not much of it- and curiousity. He had to pay extra attention to what he was going to say, for he was now heading into a hunting zone. He couldn't hide the truth about his powers, either. Maybe Colin- like heck he would know- knew this as well. Yet, the wind seemed to pick up based on his emotions, and his reactions were based on other people's emotions- Len knew that if Samyule were to notice such a small details, he would figure it out. Yet... Part of him wanted to ignore this.

"I hold the the gift of empathy- you know, to be able to 'read' emotions,"

He said this, neither telling the whole truth or lying. His pride and intuition may bite its tongue for now.
