It was a cool evening that promised to be a easy night. There was still hours stretching before nightfall, but the sun was no longer at it’s assaulting peak and Khuluma could risk going out from the shade to enjoy the other half of the day. Waiting patiently was only something he could do for so long. He had no traveling companions and no company aside from a random lizard who seemed to care more about the ants collecting on a fallen log than bothering with a God, of all things! Brushing off the insult from the cold-blooded creature, he hoped to find more accepting company. It was usually the only thing on the Gods mind; Company and talk was his only source of enjoyment, and while he could provide the latter, the former was hard to come by and spot.
The lack of companionship was hard enough as a cub, but brutal on someone who’s domain needed an audience, a listener, a someone else to provide a reason to talk. Talking to yourself, while excellent practice to become a better speaker, got old fast. Bushes and rocks made for lousy company, and sometimes he felt they were not giving his speeches the full attention they deserved. They had a air about them of being bored. He didn’t like that, because he felt he was very interesting. He even tried to talk about things they would like, like dirt and rain, but they only rustled their leaves and paid him no mind. The nerve!
Not wanting to think about it, he set off to go creature spotting.

So...-that- was a fish. A small, narrow river trickled slowly through a shallow gorge. During the rains, it would swell, deepen, and surge forward at a dangerous rate. Presently, it was an ideal sunny day. Dry bank, low water, and fully visible young fish nibbling at the rocks and bank. Well..that was silly of Jumoke to say! His scales looked nothing like those. Fish scales look nothing like his. His maw wrinkled into a sneer. Well... maybe big fish had big scales. He slowly reached out and pawed at the water.

Was that a fish? Was it a Lizard? Khuluma scarcely knew what it was that he was looking at, but he was sure that he was very confused by it. As he walked, he had come upon the most peculiar sight he had seen in a very long time. It had hooves like Pala, but…it has scales like a lizard. It has long, beautiful hair, but it also had one horn. It wasn’t ANY animal that Khuluma hadn’t seen, and since he hadn’t seen any wings, he didn’t think it was a god either. It was an unknown, and for the cub, he didn’t like not knowing things. Still, not knowing meant he didn’t know if this was a friendly uknown or a aggressive unknown.
Hope was the only thing that could be decided, and he prepared himself to run at the first sigh of a raised..uh..paw? Okay, why did this thing have paws AND hooves? It made no sense! In all his time on the savannah and all the prey beasts he had seen, nothing compared to what this creature was. There was no denying it was pretty, with it’s shimmering scales of morning and evening blue, but it was also peculiar. It stood out. It caught his attention, and as much as Khuluma wasn’t sure about it, he was pulled toward it.
Not wanting to startle it, he eased slowly, and he decided to hide his wings in case this something was a mortal something. It looked out of place in the world to him, but the mortal world was rather confusing. Who knew what other types of creatures were out there. “Hello. ” He called out, unsure of what to call it, and instead going to a warm, though a bit unsure, greeting.
It was pawing at the water, and he wondered if it was trying to eat the fish or join them. Was he a fish?

Li leaned in closer to the water, his wide eyes darting about, trying to pin one of the many wiggling things in his vision. They kept moving! If only they'd just hold still he could make out their scales a bit better. It wasn't easy to compare himself to them if they kept moving like that. Even with all their movements, they seemed at ease around him. Normally a shadow cast over water would send them darting under roots and further downstream, but they hardly seemed to notice him over the occasional bug at the water's surface or the bits of algae at the bottom.
"Fish? Hey fish?" He reached a paw out to tap at the water again. The fish, once more, ignored him. How rude! Didn't they speak? Birds spoke. They'd told him that he was most definitely -not- a bird, but he had a very nice perch in between his eyes. Not that he'd agreed. He hated -anything- touching that horn of his.
So it was a very unpleasant experience when a voice behind him caused him to jump, claw for the ground, and go tumbling face first into the water. Only then did the fish scatter, leaving Li sputtering as he sat up, alone in the the now murky shallows. His mane fell heavy over his face and eyes, some tangled up on the knotted horn and trailed down into the water.
He sputtered and spat, clearing his mouth and nose of the sudden intrusion. He leaned back, sitting back on his haunches while his paws slowly moved up to part his hair. Narrowed eyes slowly blinked away the water trailing over his face. A cub- about his size -stood on the bank. Wings, long hair...
He didn't answer right away. Instead, he starred, his chest heaving as he regained his composure. Even water touching his horn... he hated it. The contact with the ground had him outright raddled.
Finally, he opened his mouth and pointed a claw forward. "...hey! You've been bird-ified! I knew it! Jumoke knows everything!"

“Oh dear!” The water splashed at him and the godling stepped back out of the stray, not wanting ot get his delicate hair wet and turn ito a frizzy mess. He just got it combed the way he liked it and getting it wet was not the look he was going for today. As he stepped away, he also wondered if he should be worried for the ‘thing’ or congratulate it on now being one with the fishies. As it sat in the water, Khuluma could tell it didn’t seem to belong in the water. When it’s hair was parted to look at him, he could see that it didn’t WANT to be in the water.
Which meant that it fell in and was not happy to be wet. Khuluma guessed that saying this thing was a fish was no longer right. To guess it was annoyed would be more on the mark.
Giving a sheepish and apologetic grin, he was about to say his apologies when an accusing paw pointed at him and said he had been ‘bird-ified’! BIRD-IFIED! That was preposterous! He had no beak. He had no claws. He didn’t flap around and make noise in the trees. Okay, maybe the last one, but only if he had company.
“I am not a bird! I am a god! ” The words slipped out of his mouth before he had time to consider them. He was suppose to make sure that he didn’t just openly say he was a god at the risk of coming into danger. His paws clamped to his mouth, but he was riled up. Birds couldn’t compare to the power and beauty that he possessed. That and holding his mouth shut was hard enough for him.
Dropping his paws he got up on all fours and stood proud. “I’m not a bird. Look!” He turned, opening his white and golden wings out for all to see. “I have my god wings, that are NOT a bird’s wings. I have my god tail,..." He gave a little shake of his behind as his tail moved. "... and I even have my beautiful god mane. I even have paws. I have never seen a bird with paws, and I don’t have any feathers aside from my wings. I’m all golden fur.” Khuluma felt he proved his point, and then set his eyes on the thing.
If someone was going to be bold enough to say he was a bird, he had every right to make his own assumptions. “How about you? Have you been fish-ified? Or klipspinger-ified. Or even tree-ified. I can’t decide if you are something new or something changed. ” Who knew?! Khuluma had seen a lot, but he was still learning.
