They came out of between to blazing sunlight... and cold. L'thor shuddered unhappily and, not for the first time, wondered if this was really such a good idea after all. Ista was home, Ista was warm, but Ista was also cramped and apparently run by idiots.
"We will adapt, L'thorMine," Raith assured her rider, repressing a shiver of her own. "Before long we'll wonder how we ever coped with all the heat and rain of Ista... well you will anyway, I'll forget all about it. At least here we'll have a nice big Weyr."
That was true; he'd already been shown it, assigned to his wing as well for that matter. Once he placed familiar possessions around the place - a good deal of them were currently affixed to his lifemate - High Reaches would seem like a good place to be. He would make friends and enemies, and he would be happy. L'thor flexed his gloved hands in an attempt to warm them and sighed softly as Raith spiraled downward. He'd feel better about all this if his little fair had come along, but they'd all taken one look around and vanished back to the warmth of Ista. Maybe they'd join him in the end. Maybe.
He was feeling more dejected than ever when Raith alighted in the Weyrbowl, and rather than dismounting he lent forward and put his arms around her neck, ignoring the discomfort of being pressed against her ridges. It would be alright in the end, things would be better here. He hoped.

Gathering her skirts to her Nadia went about her candidate duties hoping to get them done before the sunset unlike the last few days where she didn’t get to bed for hours after sunset.
As she stepped out of the Wyre she shivered at the cold and briefly thought about going back to her rooms for her forgotten scarf but the thought of going back into the Wyre and down through all of the tunnels and halls to her room made her discard that idea.
Later in the day as Nadia was just finishing up the last of her duties, happy that she got them complete earlier then thought she noticed a dragon and its rider coming in from between. Squinting she eyed the green dragon and tried to place it among the many other greens in the Wyre, coming up blank she studied what she could see of the dragon and wondered if maybe they where visiting from a different Wyre somewhere but when she noticed its rider didn’t dismount she moved forward to make sure they where alright. She had heard some scary things about between before…

"A girl is coming, Mine," Raith informed her rider, rumbling at the stranger in a friendly fashion as she did so. "You had better sit up and greet her!" Crafter, candidate, caverns worker? She wasn't sure, but it didn't really matter anyway; friends were friends after all, well with luck at any rate.
L'thor sighed and pushed himself upright; Raith was right - as usual she would tell him - and in any case, he did need to make friends here. "Hello there," he called with a lopsided smile, unfastening himself from the riding harness and hopping lightly to the ground. "Lovely weather," he went on with a shiver, "I'm L'thor, and this is Raith. We've just transferred in from Ista," he waved a hand at the bundles attached to his lifemate, "I've a feeling it might take us a while to adapt, but we're glad to be here."
Mostly, more or less... Well gladder to be here than they would be to still be at Ista. If only he could have brought the Island's weather with him, he would probably have been perfectly happy. No sunbathing, not without a trip between first anyway, and the same with a nice long swim. Still, he liked snow, doubtless he'd get to see plenty of that before long. The cold weather here would be an excuse to buy new clothes too, an exercise he was fond of provided he found what he wanted. There was little worse, in L'thor's opinion, than an unsuccessful shopping tip now matter what it was you'd been looking for.

As she drew closer her heart fluttered a bit was the green looked at her, she knew that impressed dragons would never harm people but after the horrifying events of the last hatching she was still weary. Flushing, Nadia bowed her head slightly at the greens welcome and turned her attention to L’thor.
“Hello, it’s good to meet you and your L’thor I am Nadia, a candidate here at High Reaches.” She shot him a smile grin and shifted slightly to glance at Raith. “Ista? I don’t recognize the name… is it far?” She pulled her cloak tighter around her neck. “It’s hard to believe that its going to get colder, fells like it well a cold few days.”

"Far is an understatement," L'thor replied dolefully as he considered the distances involved, and it was a mark of how down he was feeling that he didn't even bother to scoff at the girl utter dearth of geographical knowledge. "Ista, the island just off the south coast. No snow even in winter, warm rain nearly every day, beaches, jungle, lakes... Crowded though, two to a Weyr and the same bland food every day; that's why we came here. It'll be better here, once we get used to the weather."
"Oh do cheer up Mine," Raith rumbled, dipping her head to give her rider a nudge, "everything will be fine, like you say, and look you've found a friend already. It's not like we'll never visit nice warm places again, tomorrow evening we could even head to southern to soak up some sun. Sound good?"
It did sound good, and though the thought of the southern continent made him feel even colder, the thought of going there soon made it easier to bear. Besides, cold weather did have some advantages; far nicer to snuggle up in bed with good company, and he could get himself some really nice furs, he did love the feel but it had been impractical back at Ista.
"I mope too much," L'thor said aloud with a wry smile and a shake of his head. "Tell me Nadia, how are things around here at the moment? I confess I jumped so quickly at the chance to come here I didn't do a lot of research."

Nadia shook her head at him. “It’s okay to miss your home, especially since it sounds like a wonderful place to live in. I can’t even imagine not having snow and all of that warm sun most have been nice.” She grinned shyly at him and, glancing up at the cold blue sky, she took tried to imagine Ista as L’thor described it.
“Everything is going well so far for the Wyer, there was a clutch that hatched not too long ago that held a bronze and a new gold queen so everyone is very excited about that. Over all it’s been very busy trying to get ready for the winter and getting all of the new dragonets and their riders settled into their lessons.” She tucked a bit of her hair behind her ear and grinned brightly at L’thor. “I’m glad that you and Raith decided to come here. She’s a very beautiful green.”

"Ah, of course," L'thor nodded. "I was just starting to move in when the hatching happened, managed to get in just as the third egg was cracking. It was certainly an eventful hatching, but a new queen is always something that lifts the mood." Not his mood. It didn't make him angry or anything, he just didn't see what was so special about it. So another dragon capable of laying had been born, so what? If ever there was a shortage up here, Ista could lend a couple out.
"Anyway," he returned the gril's grin, "we're glad we came too, and thank you! I of course think she's the most beautiful dragon ever to live, but it's nice to hear from other people that my opinion has at least some basis in reality." Raith, as usual, was lapping up the praise like a thirsty canine at a water trough. A deep croon escaped her throat and, her eyes swirling an intense deep blue, she dipped her head slightly in acknowledgment of Nadia's words. She knew she was lovely of course, but a girl did like to hear it!
L'thor chuckled at that sentiment and patted the slender green on the shoulder. "She says thank you for noticing, or words to that effect. Quite a vain beast she is, but then I think it would annoy me if she insisted she wasn't lovely when she clearly is."
