She was beginning to feel it: limbs lengthening, senses keener, body growing into the girth of a young adult. Still her youthful persona stayed, but at last her hormones were beginning to check themselves as well. Would she ever fully grow out of being so easily charmed by handsome males? Probably not. For a wolf that believed in one true God rather than many, Gabrielle's rather . . . polygamistic views on males was blasphemous and contrary. Of course, telling her that would be like hitting a brick wall really; what was wrong with developing multiple crushes anyway? So what if she was a bit overprotective of the boys her eyes happened to fall upon? A girl could be allowed her fickle thoughts for periods of time, no?

Somehow, she did not find herself as attracted to the alpha as some of the women did in Reign of Terror. Maybe it was her initial disliking of the male's demonic-printed visage, the cold and calculated presence in which he held himself, or the way his eyes could gleam dangerously: one word, and she could easily be dead meat many miles away. That sort of power cowed her enough to curb any interest other than one between a packmember and her leader. Besides, Gabrielle was fully aware now that her mother had eyes only for the Goblin King and, being ever loving to the wolf who gave her life even if she did not reciprocate it, the adolescent did not get in the way of Liriel's interest.

Daddy had left them for dead for all she knew anyway, leaving the girl with a terrible wound in her heart at the betrayal. She had loved them all, regardless of the dysfunctionality of their family, and now . . .

Both of her sisters always seemed out of commission these days, and it was on Gabrielle's shoulders to keep up with her brothers. Cassius always had those intense training lessons with their alpha, and Baal was probably off trying to woo some girl - it'd also probably wouldn't end up so well either, knowing him. Still, after her conversation with the alpha, she felt reinvigorated to mark her place here in the pack, aspiring to become a lady. Training, wasn't it? She did do target practice with Adrieal sometimes, that whiny boy, but was that enough? Rumor had moved on to adulthood at last, so maybe she could visit Static sometime . . . But the day was too lovely to ruin with such a sharp-tongued femme. Gabrielle sat amongst the rocks with a ponderous experession on her muzzle as she gazed out to the forest beyond. She had travelled there several times, but never beyond. Would she need a quest to prove herself, maybe to another pack? Hmm . . .

Moghedien had not long returned from her visit from Tomkin and her encounter with it's alpha male, 'Wraith'. But a day had passed, including the evening spent with the alpha, in which time she was now refreshed and ready to seek out Liriel's offspring. Mog did not enjoy lazing about and so she had left her den earlier, Damon at her side. They had caught up and she dismissed him, to do what he did best, but as always he was never far from her. Though while in the pack lands she did not feel she needed him as a body guard, thus he would be better as her spy.

Moghedien was in no mood for encountering Liriel, not before she had met her pups anyway. So she avoided her den and instead skirted the edges of the territory, in time she would begin to circle inwards, tightening her hunting ground. She suck to the shadows, though generally safe here, her natural instinct was to search for cover. Moghedien was a diplomat, a politician not a warrior or a fighter, she knew her strengths and weaknesses, which in itself was a strength.

She was in no hurry to find any of these pups and like the alpha said, should take some time to relax. Though it wasn't long before her icy blue eyes caught sight of a young adult. The feather like markings were much the same as Liriel's, though the fiery colouration must come from the father. Moghedien did not proceed, instead she sat down silently and observed the female.

She seemed to be looking out across the pack's invisible boundary line, a considering, quizzical look upon her face. Moghedien observed, as was her nature, waiting for the right moment to strike.

For a long while, the teen did not notice she was being observed, lost in her own thoughts. She recalled what time she did spend with her mother and found it to be despairingly few in number. More and more had Liriel begun to withdraw into herself, boording and introspective and resentful. Gabrielle did not blame her for being so bitter about her father, yet even so it had her heart sinking closer to despair at times. "Why's it so easy to hate and harder to love?" she asked no-one, somewhat dejected. "Why did Daddy leave, God? Are you listening to me?"

For a normally upbeat wolf, the downs in her life hit Gabrielle hard, and for a moment she seemed close to tears. But, she reminded herself soberly, I have to be strong. I can't cry like a puppy anymore. Don't think about him 'cause there's no point. Think about Momma. Think about making her proud. That was all she ever wanted, and all she was ever denied. Food, shelter, and a pack - yes. But genuine love? Genuine pride to know she was Liriel's daughter? Not quite. It was so hard now to remember that night she had woken up to a terrible nightmare about the death of her final sibling, how her mother had nestled her to her bosom . . .

Still, the memory stayed, and that alone could provide a tiny light in that moment of darkness. "Ah . . . the audacity of hope! Gabrielle told the skies who always listened but never spoke, and began to shrug off the moodiness. There were thoughts she could never feel safe to tell anyone else, and thus the teen had been driven to more introverted techniques to vent - an example being little events like this. With the weight pushed off for the moment, at last Gabrielle felt the strange sensation of being watched and, fearful that someone had seen the embarassing (or she thought as much) actions, she turned her head this way and that, calling, "Er . . . anyone there?"

After a moment of simply observing the female, she audibly spoke aloud stating something that tugged a bit, deeply in Moghedien's heart and in reply to the adolescent pup she answered her silently thinking, 'Because sometimes it's the only thing that gets you through.' Her eyes narrowed in the shadows and she felt like growling at herself for allowing her to be effected and her icy exterior to be broached. The second declaration and Moghedien wanted to smile, so Liriel had mated with some male, in weakness and gave birth to a litter and was now abandoned by the father, oh how lovely. The alpha would not have her now, but even so Liriel could still be a threat to her and now her pups could be as well.

She focused back onto the female who seemed to be close to tears and in that instant she saw a weakness, the pup was soft, not a bad quality if in any other pack, but this was the Reign of Terror and they would not allow for such a thing, not in the open like this. Again a few moments passed and at last the female sensed eyes upon her. Moghedien had learnt a lot already so she answered the female by rising and coming out from the shadows.

Moghedien was only slightly taller than the adolescent, Moghedien had yet to meet another adult smaller that herself but she was a thing of beauty and she walked with the deadly grace of a predatory animal. The jewelled web cape caught the limited sunlight as she moved and the silver bangles about her forepaws clicked musically. She approached the female and icy eyes demanded as her voice caressed the teens ear, 'Your one of Liriel's. What is your name?'

Now, Gabrielle had not much interacted with many of the pack members in Reign of Terror, but she had heard enough. In time she came to realize that the pack was larger than she had expected, many of whom she did not yet know personally: something about two brothers working as warriors who had bonded with ravens, but their names were foggy; the slave who had escaped before she was born, but she didn't matter to Gabby (after all, otherwise she wouldn't have met Kerai <3); the mysterious black red wolf who held such a strange aura about him that she had kept away so far; and perhaps others.

But Moghedien (and Gabby just knew this was Mog, being that she was spider-touched as Mommy had said) was a special case in that Liriel had had plenty to say about the wolfess. Gabrielle was fully aware that the two were in locked in competition over the Goblin King and thus, techinically, should have leaned more towards her mother's side in the fight. But then again, they were fighting over someone as conniving and dark as the alpha - not a wolf she could learn to like more than she would any leader. Plus, Gabby was hesitant to immediately dislike any wolf without first meeting them. Was this Moghedien as bad as she was told, truly? Although the eyes were colder than wanted, getting the girl closer to uneasy . . .

But certainly Moghedien was silver-tongued and well-practiced. The cool demeanor, the soft carresses of her words: they reminded her of Caydenn, who had also been an expert wordsmith. An expert liar too . . . But Gabrielle was still young, innocent, and too willing to believe that not every wolf here was as twisted as they would seem. And it wouldn't be fair to peg every wolf good with words a vixen or cockroach simply because Daddy was. Besides, maybe it would be best to start considering alliances with these wolves . . .

But first: "Er, Gabrielle. Did you need something, miss?" She looked over the lady's shoulder, surprised not to see her usual escort Damon - or at least, she was told that a male lapped at her heels. Gabrielle could only hope that she hadn't overheard her little venting sessions, for what worse embarassment was there to be had?

Moghedien did not answer the female for a moment, instead she simply looked her straight in the eye, trying to take as much from that one look as she could, before Gabrielle closed herself off to her, or guarded her thoughts a little more but right now, she was an open book. Surprise was present, her eyes slightly widened and Moghedien caught her glancing over her shoulder. She also noted the apprehensive tone to her voice and the totally naivety to her whole manner. She was still young, even as a adolescent, she had a lot to learn.

Moghedien closed the gap between them slightly, though not uncomfortably close, but close enough. 'Do I need something. I suppose, in a way, yes I do. I would like to know my pack members better.' She smiled at the girl, though there was no warmth to it, nor any malice, it was just simply an action. 'Though you have already told me a lot about yourself, so perhaps I do not need anything, here at least, any more.' Moghedien stared her straight in the eye, portraying non of her own emotions but absorbing everything the other female had on offer. After a second or two, she blinked and upon her eyes she wore the question, 'Or do you have anything to offer I don't already know?' She narrowed her eye lids slighty, almost daring Gabrielle to answer it.

It was unnerving to talk to Moghedien; no wonder Mother didn't like her. Gabrielle knew smiles when she saw them, and the one she had been given was . . . eeeeeeh. The adolescent couldn't help but stiffen a bit as if a little afraid of this small adult, even if it was more anxious than frightened. Moghedien's words were not a comfort, and for a moment Gabrielle grew cold - had she been spying on her this whole time? Was that what she meant by already knowing a lot about her? Oh God, how embarassing . . . "U-Um."

Quit being a sissy!

"I was just out for a breath of fresh air, Miss Moghedien," Gabrielle replied, averting her eyes so that she was looking towards the adult's forehead rather than directly into the pair of gleaming silver. "The Goblin King told me to train if I wanted to be a lady, but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to do that. Am I supposed to go to Miss Static?" Althoug the beta's regimen was more for warriors . . .

Moghedien stared at the female and then corrected her softly, ‘Perhaps it may of once been acceptable to refer to me by my name with the prefix of miss, but now you must refer to me as your queen or a suitable title.’ She smiled, again there was no warm to it but neither was there malice, just simply, cold. Moghedien watched the adolescent to see what sort of reaction she gave once her words were absorbed.

Multiple thoughts crossed Moghedien’s mind in a blink of an eye, triggered by Gabrielle’s words. Liriel must have spoken of her to her pup, perhaps even to all of them, for the girl knew her name. She almost wanted to smile with that though, what would the purple female think of her now, standing as an equal next to Chernabog and she alone in the world apart from her b*****d children, though their was a bitter after taste; the female whom she had hoped would provide her with more competition hadn’t provided much of a fight after all. Upon the mentioning of Static Moghedien paused. She had not yet met the Beta female though she few that she was the one whom Rumour had been trained by, now another Lady. The beta’s responsibilities involved looking after and keeping in line all the Lords and Ladies but a part of her told her not to send this gentle seeming female too her. A saying whispered at the back of her mind, ‘Keep your friends close and your enemy’s closer.’

Her voice left her, questioning the young female before she made her, her offer, ‘Tell me first off all, why is it you desire to be a Lady of this court, what makes you think your up to such a challenging position?’

For a moment Gabrielle wondered why she needed to be asked a simple question. With briefly regained confidence she started, "I wanted to be a Lady -" . . . Why? "I wanted to be a Lady to, ah, prove myself, Mi- I mean, Queen Moghedien." When did that happen, she wondered with a frown. Her sole meeting with the Goblin King had her on the impression that he worked as a solitary force; maybe there were things going on up top that she wasn't aware of. Liriel probably wasn't very happy about that . . . Oh dear.

Well, if Mog was queen, Gabby knew she would have to be giving a much better impression than this! She owed it to her mother if no-one else. Thus the adolescent straightened herself more, ears perked and eyes bright. "I wasn't meant to be born," she stated as a matter of factly, "so I have to prove myself whenever I can. And some of my brothers and sisters haven't been doing that, so I want to do their workload too." I don't want to be killed. I don't want to be cast out . . . Where would she go if she was? "Even if I don't end up as Lady material, I want to be someone to this pack, Queen Moghedien."

'I wasn't meant to be born.' The words echoed in her head and she stared hard at the small fiery feathered female. She wondered why she believed this, wondering if her current situation lead to this opinion or in fact someone had told her. Moghedein had a heart though it was guard with a series of security measures but she did not like the way the teen had said this so matter of factly. Perhaps she wasn't as soft as she thought after all but of one thing she was sure of was that the female was determined and she admired that if nothing else.

She stared at her a moment longer and slowly she presented her offer to Gabrielle. 'I have a guardian, older than myself and who I have had looking over me for many years now.' She would say nothing more of the connection between herself and Damon, she did not give information about herself away freely. 'Simply put he is smart, strong and clever and I trust him more than anyone. Will you become his student?' Damon was a diplomat much like herself, he saw things in a different light and knew how to apply certain things to become advantageous to his situation or hers in most cases. He was also even tempered and she believed would suit the young female well.

She did not say anything more but simply stared directly at the female with cool calculating eyes and waited for an answer.

What was it with the adult and staring? It was starting to get a little creepy, and it didn't help that Gabby couldn't tell what she was thinking. Moghedien was too much of a smooth talker - the phrase made her wince as she thought of Caydenn - to read for a girl like this one. What, did she have something on her fur she failed to clean off? Was she making fun of her in her head? Well no wait, Mog didn't seem like the type . . . Double wait, Gabrielle didn't even know the femme!

And then luck struck her at last. Here Moghedien gave her an option she had not considered before, stuck in a mire of swirling thoughts that had hampered her metaphoric sight and pure teenager anxiety of identity crisis - it made everything seem so much more difficult than it actually was! Silly her. "You mean that male that travels with you, right? Er . . . sure, I guess. Would he be willing to teach me, though? I don't know him very well, and I thought you'd want him at your side more now that you're alpha."
PostPosted: Sat Jan 16, 2010 8:06 am

Moghedein continued to stare at the young female, noting the way in which she wiggled under her gaze. She had her doubts about her, she didn’t see much potential and wondered if it was really worth Damon’s time to train her but she knew Damon would balance his time well not giving all to the female if he knew she wasn’t really benefiting from it. She blinked once and her thoughts changed, ‘the male that travels with you’ she had often wondered what other wolves thought of her relationship with Damon, thinking it to be something seeded but she didn’t care, let them think what they like as no doubt they’d always get it wrong and that would only work in her favour.

Her eyes narrowed ever so slightly, a barely noticeable expression as the she seemed to be questioning her but her voice remained icy cool as usual, ‘If I have need of him then I will call upon him, I would not have offered you his teachings if I did not wish it.’ Her eyes widen again and the corner of her maw turned slightly upwards at the corners, ‘He will find you when he is ready for you.’ Moghedein took one last look at the female before turning delicately on the spot and glided away from the young female.

Over her shoulder her words drifted to the to be student, ‘You have a lot to learn and he has a lot to teach, listen well.’ She did not doubt that statement what she did doubt was whether she’d be any good at putting any of it into practice or she’d simply end up as a lowly omega caring for puppies, soft minded wolves for gentle duties.

So it wouldn't be as if the guy would always be free, then. Awesome, just awesome. So Miss Creepy Stares would be the second leader next to Helmet Head, and she'd be stuck under the tutelage of some wolf she barely knew of - heck, no-one seemed to know the male at all, and of course Moghedien wasn't one who would spill secrets. Gabby wondered if Mog just got a kick out of talking with sealed lips and vague terminology: "If I have need of him", "he will find you when he is ready for you", "he has a lot to teach". Well what was all of that supposed to mean, huh? What on Telk did those two do when they were alone anyway?

Gabrielle sighed. As if she'd find out anytime soon. "Yes, my Queen," she replied simply, bowing her head a bit as the silvery femme turned to leave. This was now something to ponder . . . having a tutor! Mog didn't have the decency to give her a name even, only calling him her "guardian" for a long time now. Did that mean she was going to start learning how to be a guardian too? Or a diplomat, like Moghedien had been before ascending power? Frowning in thought, the adolescent padded the opposite way, tail swishing gently as she wondered over these future lessons coming to her.
