What was she doing here again? She knew that no one ever came her anymore, or so she thought. Whatever, it was a place to get out of the fall chill. She slipped out of her long, black coat, which was a chore with her wings, and then hung it on the peg.
The Fa'e looked around, her snakes eying their surroundings with her, and Nyoka decided she needed a soda. She doubted there was anything stronger here. Ah, a shot of her favorite whiskey would be good for warming her. With soda firmly in mind, however, she slithered toward the kitchen to look around in the fridge.
She always wondered who stocked this place.... That curious thought spun around in her mind as she returned to the sitting area and relaxed on the couch. She pulled the tab on her can of Pepsi, and sipped lazily. Peace and quiet, something she craved after spending a week with her adopted daughter....

Zaoll cracked open the door at the top of the stairs with one toe and hurried down past Calcifer with her arms full of box. The box was full of clothes, and she was quite gratified when the fire demon - with whom she was not on the best terms - didn't eat one of the jackets hanging out the side. She put down the box and cast a guilty glance at the couch. Elsbeth had not been happy about having to replace it--
"Buongiorno," said Zaoll, staring at the snake woman who seemed rather engrossed in drinking her soda and reclining on the sofa all at once. Her voice was just loud enough to carry now - after the shouting match with her guardian, it'd all but disappeared. "Are you a Fa'e?"
More importantly, were those snakes in her hair?

Not so twitchy as she had been in the months prior to now, Nyoka only blinked at the voice. She could only assume that they were speaking to her, as she didn't think anyone else was in the room.
As if to answer the unspoken question, Nyoka's snakes were the first to turn and look at the newcomer. Soon enough, faintly glowing, green-yellow serpentine eyes were turned upon the girl as Nyoka turned her head to see who owned the voice. She blinked once, but managed to curl her lips into what she thought was a friendly enough smile. At least it concealed her fangs.
Nyoka stood, turning to properly face the girl, and tilted her head to the side. "Yes, I am a Fa'e," she replied, eying the box in the other's arms. "Are you?" she asked, though this was mostly in jest, and the twinkling in her eyes served as an indicator. She'd seen her share of odd things in Gaia, but she thought that perhaps she was right in assuming that the girl was another Fa'e.
"Would you like some help?" she asked after a pause. Introductions could be made later, after all.

Zaoll hoped she didn't look too freaked out by the snakes. "Si," she said, wondering why none of the other Fa'e had freaked her out like that. She looked up at the snakes again. Oh yes, that would be it. Snakes.
"No, it is fine, ma'am," said Zaoll, "I can carry it. Thank you for offering." She tried a smile, and offered one hand to the woman. "My name is Zaoll. It's nice to meet you, signora."

Nyoka blinked at being called 'ma'am.' Did she really look that old? Well, damn....
She took Zaoll's hand firmly in her own, and said, "A pleasure, Zoall. I'm Nyoka," she offered, still eying the box. Her smile was not so forced as the other Fa'e's. She hadn't had a reaction quite like that in ... well, a while. For some reason, it heartened her, even if only slightly. "And, if you insist," she added, gesturing toward the box. "I'll stay out of your way," she continued.
With an absent hiss, she asked the snakes to quit being quite so curious....

Zaoll gave a nod of acknowledgement, all quiet politeness in the face of the snakes. She too glanced at the box, then adjusted her glasses from their place where they were sliding down her nose. "Eh. It has waited a while." Her tone implied that it could, in fact, wait longer.
Searching for a conversation topic, she instead stared at Nyoka as she absently fluffed her own marble waves. Zaoll was the only one who could move her hair, it seemed; it assumed the consistency of marble with everyone else. But she paused when the snake-woman... hissed at the snakes in her hair. Hissed. Zaoll flinched back a little, and then asked rather timidly, "You are talking to them?"

Nyoka watched the girl curiously, tilting her head to the side again, slightly taken with how Zaoll's hair moved. Her snakes had since retreated into her hair, having heeded their 'mistress's' orders. However, she reached a taloned hand up to grab a firm hold on one of them, and gave it a gentle tug. Obviously, the snake did not like it, and Nyoka flinched at the pulling sensation at her scalp. Once let go, the snake retreated as far as it could into Nyoka's hair, coiling around a few strands. "Well, they're a part of me," she said. "It stands to reason that I can talk to them," she ended, smiling politely.
She then glanced over her shoulder at the couch she had vacated. It seemed new, though it had been so long since she had been here that she couldn't be sure. "Why don't you join me?" she asked. Her useless wings flapped a few times before the settled into a more comfortable position. "You can tell me a little about yourself?" she offered. Despite herself, she was curious about this Fa'e.

"Oh!" Zaoll's hands flew up to her mouth, and she seemed appalled at her own rudeness. "Sono così spiacente! I did not know-" She broke off with a cough, too hard for it to have been caused by her voice - it had barely gone above a normal speaking volume. Once the coughing fit subsided, she looked over to the couch doubtfully.
"Eh," she said, "Last time I sat there, I broke it." From the tone of her quiet (and hoarse) voice, she was rather embarrassed by it.

Nyoka was amused by ... well, everything. As such, it was hard for her to refrain from smiling wider, as it was obvious that poor Zaoll was pretty embarrassed. Instead, she glanced back at the couch as she said, "There's no reason to apologize. I don't imagine you've come across many people who have snakes growing out of their head. It was only natural to assume they were not attached," the amused smile would not be contained, and curled her lips when she finally looked back at the girl.
"Well, if you like, we can just sit on the floor, or in a bean bag chair. I don't think you could break one of them," she suggested, motioning toward one of the many that the HQ had scattered around.

"No," said Zaoll as she settled into a green bean bag; it was the response to the statement about the snakes being attached to someone, not to the breaking of the bean bags. She didn't think she could break one of them either - it'd probably take two of her. Or her and Sei. She gnawed on her lower lip and rearranged her skirt, fussily. Once it was arranged to her satisfaction, she straightened her glasses and looked back up to Nyoka.
She blinked a few times, owl-eyed. "Are there more Fa'e like you?" Not like that's a bad thing, her body language seemed to say, she was just a little bit curious, you know, as you do.

Nyoka followed Zaoll toward the bean bag chairs, settling in a blue one. She searched her mind for a decent way to answer the question posed to her. "Well," she started, reaching up to pet one of her snakes thoughtfully. "There aren't very many like myself, at least not that I know. Admittedly, I don't know very many fa'e, not anymore...." she paused. She wasn't feeling bad about that, not anymore. She liked having a smaller circle of friends now. It made things simpler. "But, mostly, the lot of us can move through the streets without getting too many stares. Of course, obviously, I am not one of them," she said with a grin.
She tapped a bronze talon against the large yellow scales on her lap before she asked, "I suppose it is safe to assume that you have not met many of us?"

She couldn't quite hide her relief at that, though it was clear she was trying in an attempt to make a good impression. It wasn't that Nyoka didn't seem nice, it was just... she had snakes in her hair. Snakes were rather creepy. "Eh," she said, but like usual with her it sounded interested, not at all discouraging. So this particular Fa'e was one of the weirder ones?
"I haven't," said Zaoll, "Mikhail, Sei, and Caoihme are the ones I know."

She tapped her chin thoughtfully. She could honestly say that she only knew one of those names, but not the Fa'e. "I've met Caoihme, briefly. She had a party not too long ago, I just couldn't stick around," Nyoka said.
Her phone beeped then, signaling a message. She excused herself and slithered to where her jacket hung. When she checked the message, she couldn't help but smile. Well, it seemed that she was going to have a new roommate, she just had to go and iron out the details.
"I'm sorry," she started, taking her jacket off of the peg. "It seems that I have to go.... Prospective roommate," she elaborated, smiling apologetically. "It was nice meeting you, Zaoll. Hopefully I will see you around."
