So, I have this problem where I can draw the subject of my portrait and have endless inspiration & motivation to make it precisely how I pictured it, but I have some serious issues with creating a background. Everyone critisizes that I need to get over this thing with not making backgrounds, so I was just wondering how you personally approach this feat of mine? Do you complete them first & leave room for the subject or do you wait until yerr inspired to finish the portrait as a whole? What's yerr personal techniques? razz

im not that great at em either, but i tend to find drawing the subject first is best, many times have i drawn a bg, then the subject is way off on perspective and just doesn't fit. use the angle and various points on your subject to determine where things go, working out scale and things shouldn't be hard if you compare it to your character, its not much help but i hope its at least a little
