The airy sound of birds called through the air, breaking the morning coldness of mist throughout the grassland. The sun's thin, pale yellow light slid through the icy vapors that enshrouded the area, and made its way over the horizon to hit the pelt of a rather dull, gray leopard. Spots of rays flashed as he was up and active, even invigorated despite the harsh frigid that came in with the ending of night. Something in his peripheral vision was caught twitching, and he froze at once, focusing his attention to that particular spot.
As soon as another sighted sign of movement came, the male launched himself towards the origin, identifying it as a large rodent. To its misfortune, it had been close enough for the leopard to leap at in one go, and as soon as his paws touched the ground and his head was low enough to reach, he snatched it up with a forceful strike, rendering its immediate limpness.
When he dropped it, sure that it held no more life to move about, the leopard began to gingerly taste it, deciding no one was around to contest him for any part. Oblivious to any signs of life around him, as well as to what he was doing before he got up for a quick breakfast, he began chewing at his prize before the cold winds made it less tasty than it would have been right now. The breeze blew past him, leaving him in ignorance had anything desired to sneak up from behind, as the leopard was preoccupied in another world momentarily.

Poromoko was not much a fan of cold. She stretched and slid out from under the bush she had been sleeping in, stretching her long legs and shaking the leaves from her already too scenic pelt. She shook her head and yawned, shuddering and looking around. Another day of wandering, she imagined.
She padded away from her one-night home, head low because she wasn't quite awake yet. But she was moving, because she didn't know how to stay still. Soon enough she heard someone running nearby. The early morning sounds of a hunt. Interested now, she padded over to where she had heard the noise and spotted to leopard eating... something.
She soon noticed that it wasn't just any leopard.
Smiling coyly, she padded closer. She wasn't going to jump on him, not wanting him to attack her, but she didn't mind surprising him. Keeping a good distance, she drew a deep breath and let out a loud cry of a greeting.
"HEY YOU!"

His body shuddered low, ears pinning back as the shrill cry of a female voice rang through the air. It wasn't just any female's voice, either, his memory told him, and as he let go of the body he had been holding, he saw that darn mirage again that bedazzled him the first time he had seen it.
Head tilted as he hesitated to make sure it was the same exact waterfall he had seen before, looking for the telltale black-rimmed very bright cyan eyes that peaked out at the end of the mountains. He saw it, as well as the tail that followed along, never exactly able to match completely to the rest of the body. And he realized he didn't even know her name.
At first, he was unsure of what to do, other than actually respond to her; if she was coming back to him, it couldn't have meant that he gave her a bad time before, could it? She didn't seem like she was about to yell at him (out of anger) or harm him for doing something wrong. So he put on a rather fierce smile, flinging the rodent's body off to the side, not minding the small bits of blood that flecked his face and paws. His legs carried him swiftly to the rambunctious cheetah's side, and he headbutted her with playful zest for trying to scare him.
"Back for something? Did I leave anything behind?" he asked, and after a thought, added, "I left you behind, huh?"
He chuckled then, feeling the possessive need to look over the cheetah he had spent... a different sort of time with, and added again, "Green ears!"

"You did leave me! But that's okay, I would have left you if I had woken up first, so that's okay." She purred, happy for his headbutt and playfulness. That was, after all, what she liked best about him.
Well. One of the top three things, anyway.
Purring, a little chirping sound, she rubbed him and then licked his muzzle to clean off some of the blood and mess he had left there. She shook her head, tilting it at him and examining him approvingly. Still just as handsome as that night, of course. She liked his color under the early sunlight, since the last time they had met color had been draining from the world as night settled.
"Yes, green ears! Do you not like green ears? I don't think I can change them, at this point," she grinned. She liked the way he looked her over, particularly because it gave her a chance to do the same to him. She still liked the way he looked, but the pressing curiosity about his name returned. She hadn't minded it so much that first night, not thinking she'd bump into him again.
But now she had, and she wanted to at least know who he was.
"I'm Poromoko, by the way," she chimed musically, "I think that destiny thing might be playing here again. Since here we are, bumping into each other once more. So you might as well know who I am, right?"

He laughed at her truthful joke, not having the capacity to think about someone in a caring manner to realize it'd be hurtful to leave them after a night of spending... that sort of time with the other. He was still, to many, young in both heart and mind. He didn't let his youthfulness let naivety get to him, though at times he just couldn't be aware. It was good, then, that the female cheetah was as satisfied about the situation as he was.
He thought after that night that she couldn't surprise him again, until she graced him with her touch once more, closing in on his face. When he realized what he had been doing prior to her second appearance, he turned to bashfully look at the barely eaten carcass lying just a few feet away. She really did put a spell on him whenever she came, didn't she? He had to believe it was a trick all mirages had on unsuspecting victims.
So he had to pull away from her body, and as soon as he did, realized how much he favored the heat that emitted from it. He bent down to pull the rodent's body over, and rubbed a little more of the mess off before replying back.
"Poromoko, huh? I like that!" he exclaimed, feeling the desire to say it again and again, as he liked the way it sounded on his lips, but decided against it so she wouldn't go away.
"I think I like the name 'Green Ears' too," he teased, and then said, "I'm Goshi. Named after the weather, because... I guess whoever named me was moved by it so much."
Oblivious to the irony in that, he went on to stretch towards the back of Poromoko's head, letting his own tongue come out to tickle behind her ears. "So you'd change your green ears for me if you could, huh? Thoughtful. It is destiny, then... Or you're following me!" he let his tone soften as he began the last part, allowing it to be heard in a volume higher than a whisper.
"There's enough of this thing for both of us then, Poromoko. Or can you go out and hunt, and I'll watch you?" a smile grew on his features as he said that; honestly, he would have been pleased with both options, as the former allowed them to be close once more, while the latter would have given him the good sight of watching a running beauty catch something, perhaps acting dangerous while doing it. "Is there a nickname, or do you make everyone call you Poromoko?" The random thought occurred in his head.

She smiled at him broadly as he stared at her. He certainly liked to look, didn't he? Not that she minded, of course. She liked to be looked at. She watched as he recovered the little meal he had tossed aside upon her arrival, leaning a bit closer to get a whiff of what it was. Some rodent, it seemed.
She laughed when he tested her name. She liked the way it sounded when he said it.
"Goshi, huh? That means weather? I like that," she said. And she did like it, because she carried a little bit of clear weather around with her, where ever she went, on her pelt. His next comments made her laugh out loud. Or maybe it was the way his tongue tickled her ear. Whatever the case, she shook her head vigorously and laughed, beaming at him.
"I wouldn't change them, no. I was just saying I couldn't, even if you asked me," she teased, "and how come I have to be following you? Maybe you're just following in front of me?"
She moved to sit next to him, rubbing against him after his offer, making her choice clear. "You can call me Poro, or Moko. Or Romo, I suppose. Anything you want."

Pity he couldn't watch Poromoko in action, or at least another type of action. He was really appreciating the way she looked at him a lot, and the way she giggled in her girlish ways, so he supposed he would have won in either situation.
"I'll watch you hunt another time, then," Goshi jokingly promised, "And maybe then I'll convince you to stop being a gorgeous hallucination with green ears."
"And anything I want, huh?" he repeated, devious smile crawling on his expression, "Fun!"
So Goshi crouched down, eyes darting between the food before them and Poromoko. He had to admit, he wasn't very hungry in particular, especially now, after Poromoko made herself known once again. Though it probably would have been best for him to eat to gain more heat for the coldness of the morning, maybe he would instead be pleased by staying at the cheetah's side as she ate. Suddenly, his tail whipped towards his female companion, and curled tightly to her side. He began nuzzling the few images of rocks that laid scattered near the joints of her leg and arm, and even belly, and let out his own tranquil purr.
"Go on," he said into her fur, awaiting her reaction, "Poro. Moko. Romo... Hah, I'm glad you're here."

"You can watch me any time, if we keep bumping into each other like this. Maybe next time you'll find me hunting, and your dreams will be realized." She teased him playfully. She rubbed against him again, liking that he was close to her size, so she could feel comfortable against him. It was like they just fit together.
She purred happily as he nuzzled to her, as if taking her thoughts and proving her right by every motion. She leaned into his touches, nuzzling back when she could. His purr made her happy, tickling her gently as it fell in time with her own gentle rumbling. Her tail curled around him, long enough to accomplish this fairly easily.
Of course, she hadn't eaten yet that morning, so she had a bit more appetite for the rodent than her companion did. She wasn't shy about biting at it, chewing at the meat once she got some of the fur out of her way. She chirped a happy hum when she heard his last little comment.
Looking up, a little bloody but actually quite the dainty eater, she touched her nose to his.
"I'm glad I'm here, too."

"I can also just find a couple of cliffs with water running down between them into a really big lake or something," Goshi offered as he watched her dive into his fresh kill.
There was something to be said about him providing the girl's food, being happy with just the sight of her eating. Well, this will be her freebie - just this one time, he thought, fully acknowledging that he wouldn't mind if he didn't see her on a regular basis. For the time she gave him, it was well spent, and that was more than what he asked.
So he watched on, stomach not contesting as she continued picking at the body more meticulously than he would have done it. He had to admit, it was a little cute and odd at the same time when her mouth opened a little mountain on her face to take in the meat. Blood didn't do her coat well; it was as if there was a war beginning to be depicted on a battlefield too glorious to be rendered as one. So when she looked back up, bringing her face to his, he wasn't expecting the sudden touch, and pulled slightly away to sneeze.
"You did that on purpose," Goshi said as he turned back, mouth opening to taste what Poromoko had gotten on her face.
And then he began a fake growl, the rumbling in his chest heightening as he gave more than a nudge against the cheetah, attempting to lower her more. "You have too many tricks to play on me in the morning," he lightly scolded as a paw came forth towards hers as the other went to brush the rodent body away, "You'll get no more of your tricks in!"

Poro wrinkled her nose.
"Oh, yes. I love making guys sneeze on me. That really gets my blood boiling hot," she laughed, shaking her head. She hadn't meant to make him sneeze, no, but it was funny nonetheless. She flicked her tail at him, whapping him on the backside as he faked a growl at her expense.
Grinning from ear to ear, she moved for him, feigning innocence.
"I suppose you'll just have to put me to sleep again," she teased, looking up at him with her sharp, intelligent eyes. She knew exactly what she wanted, and what he wanted, and had no problem spending some more time with him. She'd have to hit the trail eventually, but for right now she was having some fun.
Lots of fun.
"I mean, if you want to get away from me and my tricks again. That tactic from before worked pretty well, I think." She grumbled, her tone a mix of a purr and a growl. She nipped at him playfully.

Goshi's body flinched as Poromoko's tail came whipping harder at him than he thought a cheetah's tail could ever strike. Her feisty nature only made his own body want to match that same energy, and counter it. As she moved, he went along, mimicking the same position without a second's hesitation. He was well aware, however, that he would possibly never be able to match her speed - she was, of course, a cheetah, and quite a nimble one at that.
"I'll show you a tactic," he retorted, leaping into the cheetah quite hastily and provoked.
Her earlier taunts had riled him up a little, though had it been a different day, perhaps Goshi may not have given in to her snarks of temptation; on a different day, he may not have been paying attention hard enough to understand what she was trying to lead him into doing. But if they were going to play the destiny game, then destiny had caught them at the right time. So he was able to meet Poromoko in agreement this particular moment again, preventing her nips and moving her to the ground to once more have a different sort of fun.
