'Zuba sat on her usual perch, looking bored. Sitting up here, on the jungle gym, the highest point in the park....it wasn't satisfying anymore. Before, it'd seemed so high up, so far away from the world, offering her perfect isolation. But now...now it was just like anywhere else. Now, she could easily reach up and touch the top while standing on the ground. This saddened her, this loss of glamor.

Her now short hair flew away from her face in the autumn wind, causing her to pull her scarf up a bit. She'd admit it: she was cold. Of course, she wouldn't be cold if she had her hoodie, but....her hoodie wasn't something she wished to dwell on. She sighed, staring out at the park.

Vinny had been promised gold if he babysat his cousin; though it hadn't been a large sum, the preteen had been eager to accept. He had wanted to meet Devin anyway, so the gold was basically a free gift; or maybe he was being paid for playing at the park now? "Come on, Devin!" He called, looking over his shoulder at the toddler. The toddler was snugly bundled in a knitted jacket; Vinny, on the other hand, was going for the jock look, and not quite managing it. He wore a baggy though vivid green sweat shirt. The preteen paused, noticing someone vaguely familar on the jungle gym. Vaguely, because last time he'd seen her she'd had long hair.

"'Zuba?" He asked, going up to it. He made sure Devin was trailing behind. The toddler was doing so slowly, looking at each leaf on the ground as if his life depended on knowing each color. That was, until he noticed 'Zuba.

"Mommy!" He cried, racing to the jungle gym. It was a habit of his to call every girl older than himself Mommy. What he didn't know was that this particular one was his older sister.

'Zuba blinked, looking down at Vincent. "'Lo, Vincent." she greeted, her voice faint, as if she was preoccupied with her thought. She shifted her weight, letting herself drop to her feet on the ground below. "How're you?" she asked, offering a faint smile.

She blinked, a faint look of confusion spreading across her face as her gaze fell on Devin. "Mom....my?" she said, breaking the word apart into it's base syllables. The boy looked vaguely familiar....hm. Maybe he had an older brother or something? "'Lo..." she greeted, waving.

Vinny gave a smile. "You grew, 'Zuba," he commented, before deciding to answer her. "I'm good, how are you?" He paused, and looked down at Devin. "Oh, right. I've been babysitting lately, for Zee." Another pause, he didn't know how to break the news to her if she didn't already know. "Um... 'Zuba, meet your baby brother. Devin."

Devin already liked this new Mommy. She was fun. "I Devi, Mommy," he told her with a bright smile. His golden eyes widened slightly. "Thithy and Mommy?" He demanded. That made her just like Ginger! But this one seemed nicer, and less likely to kidnap him. "No be like Ginner... I no like her."

Vinny looked up at his friend. "He means Ginger. Apparently she 'kidnapped' him while they were playing hide-n-seek. Now he's afraid of her."

'Zuba nodded, offering a faint smile. "'M okay. No complaints." she said, nodding. She blinked....Mother's boy had kids? Interesting. And annoying. Another one? Hopefully, he wasn't as bad at that blonde-headed menace....

'Zu knelt down to his level, offering a small smile. "Nice to meet, Devin." she said, chuckling. Well, so far he was just amusing and cute. She then laughed a little, ruffling his hair. "Won't be. Promise." she said, glad to find someone else who couldn't stand that girl. She looked to Vinny, shrugging. "Wouldn't put past." she said, not surprised.

"That's good," Vinny said with a smile. "Hey, are you busy on Halloween?" He blushed, before shaking his head of the thoughts that'd suddenly clouded it. "For a Halloween party, I mean. Not like a date or anything like that, you know... Just... A party. Everyone's invited; Zee, Mr. Matth and Risa and their kids, and well. You get the point." It was actually supposed to be Josh's Halloween party, but Vinny felt he needed to invite people as well. Anyway, 'Zuba was his friend.

Devin smiled brightly at his newest 'Mommy', and moved forward to hug her around the knees. "Luv you," he said. Yes, this Mommy was safe. She'd promised to not be like Ginger! That made her a good one! "Wan play?" He asked, tilting his head. "No hide-n-theek though!" He'd never play that game again.

Zuba fell silent, listening to Vinny explain. A Halloween party, huh? Last one she'd gone to, she had been just a toddler. "'Right. Sounds fun." she said, nodding. Maybe she could invite Adhara to come along with her? She kept smiling, ignoring the fact that he said "everyone". "Everyone" included the blonde menace. And, if the blonde menace was going, you could count 'Zuba out.

The split spawn offered a small smile to the little boy, nodding. "Sure. Play what?" she asked, standing back up. No hide-and-seek, huh? Well, that was fine with her. She could manage playing whatever the little lad wanted.

Vinny smiled. "Good, I'll tell Mom you're coming." He didn't mention that Thali might not have been exactly pleased with this. She still didn't trust 'Zuba completely, but who could blame her? "I have a Halloween present for you, too," he said with another smile. It was hard for him to give presents, seeing as he was a child of greed. In 'Zuba's case though, he always made an exception. The gift wasn't anything big, anyway. "Hey, 'Zuba? If you haven't met Devin, have you met Howl? He's your little brother, too... He'll be at the party, if you haven't."

Devin thought for a long while. He didn't know many games, he was still young enough to follow along with whatever his cousins were doing. "You pick, kay?" he asked with a smile. "I no know much gameth." Actually, the only game he actually did know was Hide-n-seek. And he was afraid of that one.

'Zuba smiled lightly, shaking her head. "Didn't have to." she said, in reference to the gift. After all, she hadn't done anything to deserve a gift. Especially after that incident... "No, haven't met him." she said, looking a bit guilty. What a horrible step-sister she must be, not having met her step-brothers!

She then smiled at Devin, thinking a moment. "Could show you how to climb jungle gym." she offered, glancing back at her usual perch. That's what big sisters did, right? They taught their younger siblings how to do stuff. And, while she didn't have much to teach in her opinion, she did her best.

"I wanted to," Vinny said with a smile. "Anyway, I don't know when your birthday is, so maybe you can count it as a birthday present as well?" What was the point in giving her two presents when he could just give her one and count it as two? "I'm sure you'll meet him soon," he said, putting a hand on her shoulder.

Devin smiled brightly. "Yeah!" he cried, as if learning how to climb the jungle gym had been something he'd wanted to learn his entire life. He'd actually never thought of learning how to climb one until she'd offered. "Thow me!" The toddler was so eager that he was practically bouncing on the balls of his feet.

'Zu smiled lightly, though it was a bit awkward. Honestly, she didn't think she deserved a present. Especially after that incident. But, if he really wanted too.... She nodded, sighing. "Should have met him already." she said, looking down. "'M bad sister."

She then looked to Devi, smiling a little. "Come. I'll show." she said, stepping away from Vincent as she held her hand out to her little brother. She smiled at Vinny. "Want to help?" she offered, not wanting to exclude him.

"You're a good sister," Vincent said with a slight frown and a shake of the head. "Nataya thinks so. Devin thinks so--" he paused, and smiled at her. "But I think he thinks you make a better Mommy than a sister." He chuckled, while silently wondering if he'd been this amusing as a toddler. Probably not.

Devin took her hand happily. "Okay! You thow!" He was practically bouncing with energy, he was so excited. He'd never had an older sister show him stuff before! This was so cool!

Vinny smiled. "Sure, I'll help," he said cheerfully. Hm. Maybe if he asked Josh to dare him, he'd be able to ask her out one day...

'Zuba chuckled. Her, a mommy? Yeah right. She doubted she'd ever be a very good mom. But, she knew better than to voice this opinion out loud. Especially around Vincent. "Vincent, stand inside jungle gym? In case Devin falls." she said, motioning to the dome.

She then smiled at her younger step-brother, leading him to the jungle gym. "First, look at how the bars a set. Envision a route to climb." she said, hoping she wasn't being to vague.
PostPosted: Sun Dec 13, 2009 3:25 pm

Vincent did as she said with a smile, climbing into the dome. He knew 'Zuba had a talent with children, though he also knew that she would never admit it. He moved to the center of the dome. He would watch, and help.

Devin tried envisioning a route. It wasn't working for him. He frowned, but moved closer to the bars. He started to climb, hand over hand, feet fitting onto the colored bolts meant to make climbing easier. He looked down. Three bars up was an awful long way for a toddler, though he was really only high enough to just see over Vincent's head. "Look!" he cried happily. "I bigger than Vinny!"

'Zuba smiled, chuckling. Little kids were so cute and tiny! "Sure are." she said, giving the little boy a thumbs up. She headed to the jungle gym; time to give her little brother an example! She climbed up the side of the jungle gym with ease; knowing where each bar was by heart.

"See if you can climb up here." she said, encouraging her little brother to keep going. Was it wise to have such a young child climbing on a jungle gym? Probably not. But, he'd have to learn sooner or later, right? 'Zuba looked down at Vincent, smiling at him. "Isn't Devin doing good?" she said, her tone....cheerful.
