Nathaniel had gotten more done than most children his age as of late. He had researched an entire noble family tree, hunted down and pestered some very important people, gotten kicked off of multiple properties by serious looking bodyguards, and finally coerced a man into giving him a home. He had lived off his wits on the streets for a prolonged period of time and he had practiced speaking persuasively and running fast (very fast, oh goodness), but despite this there was still one thing he had left to do. And thus, he pulled a somewhat unwilling Fitzdaniel down the road to Solace Scents early one autumn morning, chilly determination coming off him in waves. He had gotten this far, he just had to make things completely official.
Fitzdaniel was concerned.
The child he had taken in in one rash moment of sympathy was driven, yes, but he was just now beginning to consider he might also be a little insane. Yes, Nathaniel had told him he had come from scented oil, but he had thought that this had been a ruse, a poorly constructed story to give him some sense of legitimacy. However, as he found himself being dragged to an actual scent shop, he was beginning to have his doubts. Either this was a poor stab at a joke, and Nathaniel didn't seem like the joking type, or the kid actually thought he came from scented oil, which was impossible.
Either way, he reflected as they approached the shop, Nathaniel couldn't be talked down, and he'd get answers soon enough.

Inside the shop were two very busy looking young people, one sweeping the floor in his jet-black mini skirt, the other arranging and decorating tables in a minimalistic fashion with her white cloud-like hair floating about her face. Hard workers they were, though very easily distracted if given the opportunity to be so.
Moanna, looking up from the displays she was putting together, starred at the door with an almost knowing gaze, "Someone is approaching, Ment."
Ment looked up from his sweeping, brushing his bangs from in front of his gaze, and looked from Moanna to the door, and than back to Moanna again. "I don't hear anyone," He commented, leaning himself lazily against his broom, "It's been rather quiet all day, what makes you think someone's approaching?"
"A feeling..." Moanna retorted off-handedly.

In fact, it was moments later when the door opened and a tall, somewhat haggard looking man stumbled in. If one looked down the length of his right hand, one could see the reason why: He was being bodily dragged by a young boy. The boy let go when they were safely inside, and gave the shop a once over. This was the place, now he just needed the evidence. Looking over at the pair of other Scents inside the shop, he gave them a brisk nod. "My name is Nathaniel Hargreaves, and I came from Earl Grey scented oil. My guardian has left me, and I've found this man, who will be a suitable replacement for the time being. However, he doesn't believe that I come from where I do."
He looked at them expectantly, as if he expected them to fix it. Fitzdaniel cleared his throat apologetically and added, "Good day. I'm Fitzdaniel Upton, I found this boy on the street a few days ago. He won't rest until he thinks I believe some story about him being, er..."
"...Not human." he finished lamely, with a look that clearly said Kids, what're you gonna do?
"More expertly evolved than most humans," Nathaniel corrected quickly, with a look that clearly said Adults. What to do with them but speak slowly and patiently? It was clear that there was a communication gap present in the room.

"Oh! Oh..... Ohhhhh....," Ment said in quick succession as Nathaniel presented his problem, solution and subsequent problem to the solution in one fowl swoop. The white, witch-hatted teen gave both the child and the adult a nervous smile. For him this was quite the predicament, as he had yet to hear of any of the Scent children losing who they chose. It was a little off putting.
"Well you see," He began, before he found himself abruptly cut off by Moanna, who until this moment was one to actually cut anyone off verbally.
"The child is correct," She said, her deadpan expression moving from the taller male to the smaller one.
"...Yeeaahhh," Was Ment's brilliant affirmation to both Nathaniel's claim and Moanna's agreement to the child's claim.
It was the quickest succession into a very awkward silence that Ment had ever been in. A child who smelled strongly of tea busted into the shop, told him his old guardian deserted him, and that he has now claimed a new guardian. All the while this poor man seems both confused and a little ignorant to what really exists in this world.

"Excellent," Nathaniel stated succintly. "I thank you for your assistance."
He went to pull Fitzdaniel away, but Fitzdaniel stopped him for once, looking bewildered. "Wait," said the older man, "Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait."
Nathaniel clicked his teeth and turned around, asking, "Yes, what is it? I believe that my case has been proven."
"No, no it hasn't," Fitzdaniel stammered. "You just brought me in here and these two said you came from scented oil is all. I didn't know you were some kind of magical kid when I took you in, or that anyone was responsible for you, I just thought you smelled..."
Like bad memories.
"...Funny. Do I have to keep you with me when you have these people to find you a new home or whatever? You're not my responsibility!"
"Incorrect," Nathaniel interrupted smoothly. "I was purchased from this shop, which offers no returns or refunds, so I am no longer their responsibility. However, since I'm from Earl Grey, and so, in a manner of speaking, are you, you are my next of kin, and therefore responsible for my well being." Turning to Ment and Moanna, he announced, "When my former guardian abandoned me, I carefully examined the history of the scent that I am derived from in order to find a suitable caretaker. This man I have chosen to be my new guardian is the b*****d son of the late Earl of Grey, who invented Earl Grey and brought it back with him on his trading expeditions. I would have chosen a less scruffy member of the Grey family, as I am a more direct descendant to the Earl than all of them, but they are currently denying my place in their illustrious lineage. Until I manage to persuade or destroy them, I've chosen to live with this b*****d in his little house for the sake of legitimacy and convenience. You no longer have responsibility for me, but this man seems to value your opinions, so I will ask you this: is this acceptable?"
"Whuh-" Fitzdaniel stammered.
"They sold me, so I'm more directly related to you than them, legally speaking."
"I hate magic," moaned Fitzdaniel quietly.
