Well, I love the space opera genre, so I figured we could post books or games that fans of Mass Effect might like!
Here's a couple of mine
"Revelation Space" - Alastair Reynolds
Actually, pretty much anything by Reynolds..
"Year of the Flood - Margaret Atwood. Well, it does have sci fi elements, but it's mostly a dystopian/post apocalypse novel. Still good.
Also, try some sci fi classics if you're in the mood. War of the Worlds, Frankenstein, I Robot, etc etc...
As for video games... Try Knights of the Old Republic (it'll turn you into a star wars nerd!) or Bioshock. I recommend bioshock to EVERYONE because it's a challenge and keeps you on your toes. There's also a really rich plot that'll keep your interest.
I'll post more if I come up with any. Post your suggestions!~

~As for books, Valor's Choice and the Better Part of Valor are good. It's like a combination of Battlestar Galactica and Mass Effect. They're great books, definitely check them out 3nodding

A no brainer, but I have to throw in the two Mass Effect books, Revelation and Ascension both by Drew Karpyshyn, lead writer for the Mass Effect series.

For video games, well there's Portal inside the Orange Box, Bioshock , Bioshock 2, Fable, Bioshock, Fable 2, Halo series (I'm so excited for Halo Reach), etc. ... did I mention Bioshock?
As for books, I love the Sci-Fi series Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

I have to second Bioshock, it's pretty damn amazing.
I also have to throw my love for Red Faction. The original Red Faction, not the new one. xD

I still need to play it. Hopefully I'll get some more money as a graduation present so that I can get it.

They are great and are must reads for any Mass Effect fan. They give good background information on the series and characters, and the second one is referenced a few times in ME2. There's a third one coming out sometime this month (can't remember when exactly).
And I finally got BioShock 2. Wasn't nearly as good as BioShock 1, esp. story wise.
