THE RIDER

Physical Description: Small and wiry, Kallista is lean with strong legs and defined muscle due to many runs. Overtime, as she has matured, her body has developed a little more curve to it though her hips and breast will always be small. Though petite, she is very tough-skinned and can handle heavy burdens not to mention spirited beasts as well. Her hair is reddish-brown that curls at the ends and gets coppery highlights in the summer. It is currently cut short, about mid-neck and it has taken darker tones since she moved to High Reaches. Kallista has slanted eyes that are a hazel color and tend to go more green when she is upset. Her lashes are thin as are her eyebrows and her nose is a little long. It turns down slightly. Her lips are well shaped and a light pink in color. Skin tone is a ivory beige that darkens in the summer with a light scattering of freckles. She prefers loose pants and tops so that she does not overheat on runs. Her favorite colors are greens and light browns. She is roughly 5'5" in height and about 120ish pounds.

Personality: A diamond in the rough. That is the best way to describe Kallista. She can be sunshine and smiles one minute, serious and smart mouthed the next. She never lets anyone know what she is truly thinking. As a runner and messenger, she has learned to blend not only her looks but her mannerisms and speech as well. She adheres to the runner's code as well as her own personal morals-having them being strongly impressed upon her at an early age. In her mind tradition is tradition only when it helps out craft hall, hold and weyr. Knowing that change is sometimes needed in order to preservation, she looks to her father and brothers as examples on how to act. Kallista is always respectful of those who are her elders or higher ranked than her.

Since Impressing and moving from Ista to High Reaches, Kallista has loosened up slightly. She still is very duty bound however, she has learned how to be a dragon rider. Laid back and ever observant, Kallista will flirt and laugh with her fellow riders but won't hesitate to scold or report someone whom she thinks is acting out of order.

The Crowned Crane
The Grey Crowned Crane has a breeding display involving dancing, bowing, and jumping. It has a booming call which involves inflation of the red gular sac. It also makes a honking sound quite different from the trumpeting of other crane species.

The Grey Crowned Crane is about 1 m (3.3 ft) tall and weighs 3.5 kg (7.7 lbs). Its body plumage is mainly grey. The wings are also predominantly white, but contain feathers with a range of colours. The head has a crown of stiff golden feathers. The sides of the face are white, and there is a bright red inflatable throat pouch. The bill is relatively short and grey, and the legs are black. The sexes are similar, although males tend to be slightly larger. Young birds are greyer than adults, with a feathered buff face. Like all cranes, it feeds on insects, reptiles and small mammals.

Green Astarteth
Even at a young age, Astarteth is extraordinarily sensuous. Her movements are precise and slow, designed to show off her own supple body and colors to the best of her ability. This green falls very much into the stereotype of the ‘randy green’, and then proceeds to take it to the next level. She doesn’t just want a male- she wants all of them. After all, she could treat them better than any other female, even the Queens. Queens are fat anyway- she, Astarteth, is wonderfully slim and proportioned. She should be the fantasy of every male dragon.

When not basking in male attention, Astarteth is being snarky to other females, or sulking over not basking in male attention. She constantly badgers her rider to enforce her own ideas that she’s the most beautiful dragon on Pern, and she needs to be bathed far more often than most other dragons. Bathing and oiling are her favorite things, besides males and informing her rider that he or she needs to ‘pretty up, or you’ll never find a mate’.

When flying in a wing, Astarteth is one if the quicker dragons, using her small body to maneuver easily and make graceful dives. She doesn’t like to fly and belch out flames- she complains that the soot darkens her hide, but she will do so anyway. She might complain about Queens at times, but she will listen without question.

It is safe to say that Astarteth is insatiable in Flight. She seems to last for far longer than a green should, and will loudly demand that all males chase her- even the bronzes and the browns. She’s far more likely to go for one of them for the prestige of having such a weyrmate, and she doesn’t seem to pay much heed towards what her rider likes, and what gender her rider may prefer. In Flight she is a lost cause, and it’s best just to sit down and hold on tight.

The Phoenician Goddess Astarte
ASTARTE: Rampant Goddess of Fertility and Sexual Pleasure from Phoenicia. She is extremely horny. We're talking cow's horns of course, as ASTARTE is a sexy cow — and ritual prostitution is always on offer.

ASTARTE was very popular in Old Testament times and travelled far and wide, starting up in business all over the place with the help of her consort and brother BAAL. This kind of thing was always a cue for monotheistic fury and Biblical condemnation. She was also worshipped in Babylon under the name ISHTAR — and vice-versa.

Oh God, Why Me?
Kallista aims to blend in, while Astarteth aims to stand out. This interesting pairing goes for the opposites attract approach. But will it?
