Name: Kamihan
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft: Obnoxious weyrbrat
Rank: Candidate
History:
Kamihan's mother, a cook in the lower caverns of High Reaches Weyr, has always told him that his father was a brave, handsome bronzerider who died in a mysterious and tragic accident just after Kamihan was born. He has never questioned this, and is very proud of his heroic father. Just don't go looking for said bronzerider in any record scrolls, because bet you ten marks that he doesn't exist. (Bringing this up is one of the best ways to get Kamihan to try to sock you. Really, don't do it.)
He grew up in High Reaches, constantly underfoot in the lower caverns, somewhat belonging to everyone and enjoying it that way. When he was growing up, his mother (who wanted to remain a strong presence in his life, despite circumstances) considered him for various crafts, and endeavored to teach him everything she knew. As a result, he is quite familiar with the workings of the kitchens, as well as most of its older inhabitants. But it was fairly clear from the get-go that he was interested solely in being a dragonrider like his illustrious, imaginary father.
If he has any blood siblings, he isn't aware of it, so instead he tended to treat all of the weyrbrats younger than him like brothers and sisters. As he grew older, this tendency turned into repeated efforts to organize some kind of Candidate pack, with Kamihan, naturally, as leader. This... failed spectacularly. Not least of which because he had no actual goal in mind. When asked, his default answer tended to be along the lines of “adventure!” and no further explanation. Most of his early Candidacy consisted of him dragging along whoever had a spare candlemark to go investigate some half-formed scheme or another.
As he grows older, stands for more clutches only to leave dragonless, and as he grows closer to the age where he'll need to either Impress or choose a craft, Kamihan seems to be growing if anything more restless. He tends towards seriousness more often (still not very often, but more than before) as well as being quicker to indignant anger at the suggestion he might not Impress. Of course he will! He's awesome, and any dragon who can't see that is blind! Or crazy! He doesn't want a crazy dragon, someone else can have it.
Appearance:
Kamihan is tall, broad-shouldered, and usually sporting a crooked grin. He's got the toned, tough look of someone who's no stranger to physical activity, whether it's hauling barrels and sacks of supplies around the lower caverns, various Candidate chores, or just good-natured scrapping when the Candidatemaster isn't looking. While his skin tone is middling fair, his hair is jet black, the kind that almost seems to have a bluish sheen in sunlight rather than reddish, and is kept very short. His eyes are a bright ruddy brown, fringed by long, almost feminine lashes that contrast strangely with his strong jaw and sharp profile.
Personality:
Kamihan has always seen himself, probably erroneously, as a natural leader. In fact, his idea of leadership tends to involve a loud voice, hot-bloodedness, willingness to try absolutely everything once to “show everyone else it's safe,” and when in real trouble, the occasional impromptu dramatic speech. If people follow him, it tends to be out of curiosity to see what he'll do next. Still, his boundless enthusiasm can be infectious, and his garrulous persona is genuine. He really does just love people. He likes being around them, he likes people looking at him, even if they're laughing. If you need help, he would throw himself at a wher for you. Possibly even if he doesn't know you. Possibly even if you don't ask him to. Yeah, that's pretty much Kamihan in a nutshell.
In some ways, he's surprisingly immature for seventeen. Sure, he's responsible in that he gets his chores done (sometimes late, and sometimes half-heartedly if he has something more interesting to go do, but they get done. Sort of.) But he tends not to think about the consequences of his actions beyond the immediate. Especially in regards to himself. He might stop to think “oh, I shouldn't do this because I might hurt someone,” but rarely will he come to the conclusion “I shouldn't do this because I might hurt me.” As a result, the healers at High Reaches will probably be very familiar with him.
He can come off, especially on first impression, as shallow or thoughtless. Neither one is true. Kamihan works very hard at keeping up a confident exterior, which means that if he has second thoughts or misgivings, he won't voice them aloud. The truth is, he relies a lot on other people to give him that confidence, and when alone he is much more subdued. He can also succumb to anger, frustration, or misery just like anyone else – the difference being, he tends not to dwell too long in them. Rather than nursing a grudge or wallowing in self-pity, he'll bounce back as soon as the source of his unhappiness is removed from the equation.
Other:
Kamihan is actually quite a good cook; despite all his efforts to tune out the lessons of his mother and her friends, he's absorbed a number of tips and tricks, as well as sheer familiarity with the kitchens helping him out. This is not a fact that he advertises, feeling that he has much more awesome qualities to be bragging about.
