Lucretia paid her fare and floated down the stairs off of the Barton Town #33B bus, and glanced around at the unfamiliar surroundings as the vehicle pulled away. Or, well, it was not like she had never been to the mall, but it had been quite a while since she last came here, and ordinarily, she was with her father helping him run errands, rather than by herself. Still, the Ice Rose had agreed to meet her friend Dayo here, so it was not like she would be completely alone with so many strangers around.
Adjusting the black bed sheet she had all but adopted from her brother's drawer as clothing so that it hid her glowing rune and trailing ribbon, the Raevan sighed and grasped the door handle to let herself into the department store entrance. This store was Seers (known for their magical wear department), but she was supposed to meet Dayo inside the mall, by the information desk. Hopefully it would be easy to find.
Clasping her hands together and smiling pleasantly, Lucretia floated over the linoleum tiles between the departments, inwards towards the mall proper, blissfully ignoring the perfume department women who attempted to get her attention along the way. Lucretia stopped abruptly as she reached the mall entrance and looked around, black eyes going a little wide. All those stores...!
"Uh...." The girl looked one way, then the other, and put a finger to her lips as she drifted slowly towards the Directory board.

It had been a while since Dayo had last seen the Raevan she considered to be her bestest best friend ever, and when her guardian suggested they meet up and hang out somewhere, she couldn't have gotten more thrilled at the thought. The conversation had ended with Mouse finally successfully teaching the eagle girl how to dial a phone, and after a good bit of decidedly girly chattering a time and date had been set for a trip to the mall.
Dayo loved malls. She went to this one often in order to feed - the thrill of drifting through the wide walkways at peak hours was wonderfully delicious - and she knew the place like the back of her hand, and many store and stand owners liked having her around. Something about her presence seemed to make people happy. Happy people bought more stuff. It was a win-win.
There was, though, the occasional spike of anger when drinks were thrown at boyfriends who stared a bit too long at her ill-covered chest.
Luckily for Lucretia, the Directory board was only a handful of feet away from the information desk - the feathery shock of blonde-to-brunette hovering at it should have been indication enough, anyway. "Hey, Luuuuuc! Over here!" she called, waving emphatically and grinning brightly.

Lucretia lit up happily when she saw Dayo, and spread out her glowing wings as she waved enthusiastically.
"Thank goodness, this place is just so big, I was afraid I would never find you," the girl chimed as she hurried over, and fiddled with her blanket a little. "How have you been?"
Her attention wandered after a moment, though, down the line of shops nearby. At least it was far less crowded than when she had been here with Bhel that one year at Christmas. Glancing back at Dayo again, Lucretia asked, "Do you have like, one favorite store? Or do we go to all of them?"

"Me? I've been pretty good," Dayo responded, her smile momentarily catching on her lip. "I gotta bunch of presents from, uh... I dunno who, but it's, like, why I started going to this place, you know? It's really fun!" Her wings fluttered a bit on the words 'really fun,' as if to emphasize.
"And this mall is, like... the best one. It's so huge!" she said, following her gaze briefly down Lucretia's line of sight, before breaking off and letting her eyes dart everywhere - to the stores, the displays, the crowds and tiled wishing wells. "I say we go to all of them. That's the best way to do it, really."
The eagle girl drifted away, backwards, still facing Luc but moving towards the escalators. "We can get to the food court if we go up this way," she was saying. "They have these killer things called snowcones there. You ever had a snowcone? They're, like, the best."

"All of them...?" The Ice Rose murmured, nodding slowly as she stared off up the wide hallway of shops. She was quiet for a moment, then turned back to Dayo and shrugged. "I guess that way I'll know next time which places are good? Or which ones are bad and I can skip?"
Lucretia's friend had her at "food court", though, and she eagerly followed her towards the escalator. "Is a snowcone like a smoothie?" she asked. "I am hungry." She only really got the water out of whatever she ate and flavor was present but difficult to discern, but the different colors still made things exciting. If snowcones came in colors like smoothies, she would just pick the weirdest-colored one.

"Yeah, we'll probably skip, like, the candle shop? And other boring stuff like that," Dayo chattered on as they floated on up the escalator, which was fortunately empty for the most part. "I mean, like, there's some places where you aren't even allowed to touch anything, you know? And that's just super lame." She made a face, the air around her souring for an instant.
"No, it's not really-- well, like--" She paused for a moment, pulling a set of fingers through her massive hair as she thought of a way to describe it. "Smoothies are smoothies, you know? Like, they're... smoothies." Her hand buried itself almost completely while she scratched at her scalp. "Snowcones are like... snow. In a cone. And they can make them rainbow-flavored. I dunno how they do that, but... trust me, it's awesome."

Lucretia listened attentively to Dayo, nodding in agreement. "That is lame, shopping without being able to touch stuff. How do you know what you like, anyway, if you can't even touch it?" She frowned a little and raised an eyebrow as she looked down at her hands, flexing her fingers a little. One of the things she thought she might be able to buy today was a new sheet for herself, so she could stop using her brother's all the time when she went out, but like, how was she supposed to know if she had a good, comfortable one if she could not touch it first? "Yeah, we can skip those places."
Her mind returned to the present at a point where the Ice Rose had missed the first bit of Dayo's explanation of the differences between smoothies and snowcones ... and so Lucretia kept up her smiling and nodding. Her friend's first couple words must have been pretty important to the nuances of the two dishes, because Lucretia was not sure she followed the rest of what Dayo said. "... Rainbow-flavored," she repeated distantly, brows drawing together for a moment in thought before she shrugged. "I guess I'll just have to try it, then."

"Yeah, that's what I said!" Dayo emphatically agreed, her curious aura of emotions flaring up like a sudden blast of volcanic air. "I was, like, how do you even get anyone to buy your stuff like that? And then they kinda kicked me out of the store, but I didn't care because none of their junk was all that cool anyway." She made another face.
Going back to the subject of snowcones made her mood drift back into the typical giddy bubble Lucretia was probably more accustomed to. "Yeah, rainbow-flavored! Kinda hard to believe, right? I'm, like, completely serious here, though." She was drifting backwards again, leading her friend over the tables of the food court (having no legs did wonders for navigation) until, finally, they were in the line for the snowcone cart. Dayo didn't seem to mind that they'd have to wait a few minutes; she was abuzz with the excitement of Sharing Something Cool.

Lucretia started to feel more excited about eating and about shopping again as Dayo headed towards the snowcone stand. Spilled droplets of drinks and condiments froze to the tabletops as the Ice Rose followed her friend over them towards their meal, but started to thaw again as soon as they were no longer close to the Raevan's icy rune. Then, when they reached the cart and got in line, she leaned forward to peer at the assortment of colored bottles just behind the counter.
"What does rainbow taste like?" she asked her companion in a low voice. "And which bottle has the rainbows in it?"
