Kwanzaa~!
Official Kwanzaa Website
Kwanzaa is a cultural reaffirmation celebrating the heritage of African Americans and those of the African Dispora from December 26th through January 1st. The holiday is neither political nor religious, but allows peoples to re-connect with their roots.
Founded in 1966 by Maulana "Ron" Karenga, "Kwanzaa" means "first fruits of the harvest" in Swahili, and the celebration derives from Africa. To differentiate the American holiday, an extra "a" was added to the word. Consequently, this gives Kwanzaa seven letters, which is considered by some to be a reflection of the seven-day holiday.
Seven Guiding Principles
--Umoja (Unity): 12/26
Umoja reinforces the necessity of togetherness.
--Kujichagulia (Self-Determination): 12/27
Kujichagulia focuses on the need to define onself.
--Ujima (Collective work and responsibility): 12/28
Work together to help others.
--Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics): 12/29
Community support and the support of local businesses that give back to the community.
--Nia (Purpose): 12/30
Looking to the future and trying to build a strong foundation for children to carry on a tradition of community.
--Kuumba (Creativity): 12/31
Using creative talents to help the youth as well as making communities better than they were found.
--Imani (Faith): 01/01

Things to know:
--Karuma: The Kwanzaa Feast. Traditionally held on Dec. 31.
--Habari gani?: The official Kwanzaa greeting meaning, "What's the news?"
The appopriate response is the day's principle.
--Kikombe cha umoja: Communal unity cup, used to celebrate those who have created the path down which we now walk.
--Kinara: Candle-holder, which hold 7 candles. The seven candles are called Mishumaa saba; one black, three red and three green.

[OLD TOPIC: Do you believe in Santa?]
[...]
[No, no, hear me out. Santa, or Saint Nick, could very well be real.]
[I know, I know, "Pull the other leg, it plays Jingle Bells." rolleyes ]
[To explain: No, I don't believe in a jolly old white-bearded fat guy in red who breaks into my home once per year through the chimney and rather than stealing my PS2, actually leaves expertly wrapped gifts under my Christmas tree, then rides away in a sleigh led by magical venison. xd
But I do believe in the spirit of giving that he represents.
Discuss:
--What is Santa to you?
--Do you have a similar view on Jolly Ol' Saint Nick?
--What's your favorite Christmas special? (TV show or movie)

--What's your favorite Xmas song or story?

--Did you ever write Santa a list of demands? xd
--Your fave' Xmas CD?

PSS Anyone who wants to enlighten us on the ways of Kwanzaa and Hanukka, please share~! Thanks~!]
EDIT: I'm going to change the poll every so often until Christmas~! 4laugh
