It was still early enough that the dining hall wasn't terribly crowded. Most people probably would have appreciated the break from the serious crush of people that so defined Ista Weyr, but A'bri honestly enjoyed constantly being surrounded by people- especially now that Varth was too big to follow him around everywhere. So instead of finding a seat a comfortable distance away from everyone else, he plopped himself down across from someone else catching an early breakfast. He didn't have long to sit- Varth was already impatiently goading him about going out for his morning exercises- but A'bri needed a meal and he'd like some conversation.

"Good morning," he offered cheerfully, his usual friendly smile firmly in place.

Liniyie probably looked like a grave warmed over, his night spent staring at the ceiling instead of resting like he'd wanted to. Catching an early breakfast hadn't been in his plans but, since he was already up and moving around when things were starting to be served, he caught the meal none the less. He'd been idly trying to get the food into his mouth without hitting his face when the sounds of a chair scraping and someone sitting down graced his ears, causing the youth to look up with his bleary expression.

"G'morning."

He had no idea who this was, or why they had the energy to sound so happy so early on. Perhaps they'd been lucky enough to catch some sleep, in which case it meant either they were not in their room or they're the ones who snored and couldn't hear anyone else. Still, that didn't matter, and he rubbed his face a few times before he tried to let his eyes focus.

"Can I help you?"

"Nah, just saying hello," A'bri replied, his smile widening slightly and turning somewhat sympathetic. Looked like his table-mate hadn't gotten much sleep. Either that, or he just wasn't the sort who liked mornings. "Long night? Looks like you didn't get much sleep."

A'bri would have taken a bite of his food at that point, but Fancy decided that it was time for her to receive some attention and popped in beside him, landing daintily on the table. She chrred a greeting at A'bri, examining his plate for anything that appealed to her. Nothing did, so she simple minced her way across the table to examine what else was available.

"Fancy! That's not yours, you beast, get back here," A'bri chided. "Sorry about that, she's very... independent. That's Fancy, and I'm A'bri," he added, reaching out to pull his flitt back away from the other boy's plate.

"The other people in my room can sleep through it, but the snoring . . it's worse then when dragons rumble."

All the weariness that seemed to have been plaguing Liniyie snapped away the moment the firelizard landed on the table before the youth, his posture and entire being snapping to alert within moments. The look of exhaustion had wiped itself from his eyes, a spark of excitement replacing it, and a faint hue of admiration was coloring the boy's cheeks.

"Ah, no, I don't...mind at all. It's not like I would have eaten any of it anyway, I seem to be unable to find my mouth. Unless of course, she's not supposed to eat other's food anyway."

He did have a bit of food on his chin, all his efforts to properly feed not entirely succeeding, and he wiped his face with the back of his sleeve. It was a childish motion, but he was still only half awake and it was early. He could change and wash his clothes later. He was still rubbing his face when names were offered to him, the rider and firelizard alike.

"My name is Liniyie. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Liniyie smiled and held out a hand, a method of introduction he was trying to get used to doing.

Ahh. Yes, snoring, that was a problem when a half a hundred people were crammed into a dorm and expected to sleep together. A'bri dealt with the problem by attempting to stuff his pillow into his ears, but it was only ever marginally successful- he understood Liniyie's complaints.

"I know what you mean," he said, shaking his head. "It can be overwhelming- especially from the big fellows, and it's not like it's easy to wake them up out of it without getting cuffed for your troubles."

A'bri flat-out beamed at Liniyie's reaction to Fancy, though- no matter what he said about her, he adored the little creature, and he loved it when people took positive notice of her. He aborted his attempt to retrieve her, letting her stay near the plate, and she preened under Liniyie's gaze, rising up on her hind legs and chirring at him.

"I try to discourage her from helping herself to other people's meals, but if you don't mind sharing, I won't bother her," he said, chuckling as she turned suddenly, catching her wing and brushing at it, apparently offended by an invisible speck of dirt.

A'bri took Liniyie's hand, shaking it with a comfortably firm grip- no challenge or force, but not weak either- before letting his hand drop again. "Good to meet you. Are you a Candidate, then, or...?"

"I don't mind at all, but are you sure it's okay to make an exception? I don't want to be the reason she keeps having to relearn, I know how hard it came be to teach a mannerism to a firelizard."

At the end of the handshake Liniyie smiled and nodded slowly, thinking by now it would be pretty obvious. Two-third of the people not with a dragon were Candidates, and since he'd been complaining unintentionally about the state of affairs in rooming, he felt it even more so. Still it was an honest question from this man before him, so the russet-headed youth felt no real annoyance, figuring it all to be a real way of double checking.

"Yes, I'm a Candidate. I was originally born here in Ista but have spent a majority of my Turns at the Healer Hall, where I was an Apprentice. To follow the normal route, I was searched and brought back home, and I'm a bit taken aback by the population surge. I don't recall it being so small like this, but I suppose when you're a Weyrbrat everything seems so huge."

It was true, the Weyr had come to look so much smaller nowadays, and was full of so many more people. He hadn't seen a childhood friend in a long time, perhaps finally back to before he went to the Hall, but he was slowly trying to make new ones.

"I don't suppose it was the same way for you? Though now that you are a Rider, you're really not kept by things like small or crowded. You've got freedom, in a way."

"She's not actually too bad about it, usually. She seems to know who won't mind- or at least, she hasn't bothered anyone who does yet. Just be glad you don't have any ribbon. She's nuts for ribbon, keeps bringing bits of it back. I don't know where she gets it from, but she's got a whole pile of it now." A'bri shrugged, smiling.

"Healer Hall?" A note of respect entered A'bri's voice, and he shook his head. "Impressive. That's a lot to learn, a lot to understand. And Searched from there, back home again? How was that, really? Must have felt strange. I suppose it's good to know it wasn't always so crowded, but it must be tough, if you lived here before, and came back to find there's hardly enough room for everyone to sleep."

A'bri shook his head again, smiling wryly. "No, I'm not from here, nor nearby, and I wasn't doing much of anything important when I was Searched. Just good luck, I guess, and I was glad enough to go. My folks are Smiths, and... well, I'm not very good at it. They never seemed to understand how that happened. I don't understand it myself, but at least I don't need to worry over it any more. And Varth's still young, though he's getting big- bigger, anyway, he was always big- we're not quite at the flying stage yet. Still ground-based, so we can't go far. But I don't mind the crowds too much. Hey, I don't suppose you want to meet him? I was just grabbing a quick bit- I'm sure he wouldn't mind if I brought company out. He's working on strengthening his wings, very serious about getting enough exercise before he's trying to get airborne."

"I'll have to take care about ribbon then, I guess. I usually carry spools of cloth with me, but it's in a pocket and not at all pretty enough for such a lovely Green."

He meant the compliment honest and open, truely admiring the shade of green that Fancy had for her hide, and inwardly he wondered if there ever was a way to compare the shades that each Dragon/Flit had. Surely no tone was better than another, even within the same color.

"As for being a Healer, it's something that I wanted to do and something I was slightly good at, so I suppose I am lucky. If I am never to Impress at least I can still be of help to the Weyr by treating those who have, as well as any companions they might obtain along the way. It seems like you've found your real calling though, so isn't it good if you were never skilled at anything else?"

At the mention of seeing a Dragon, a real live one instead of the miniature firelizards, Liniyie's face grew even brighter (if it were even possible). He nodded his head quickly, seeming as if he had no joint in his neck, a bright color of red happiness spreading to his cheeks.

"I would love to accept your offer."

Another Dragon! How lucky was his day going to be after all!?
