The rogue lands....had it been not-so-long ago that he'd been out here, considered nothing but a rogue who let no one near? He looked back to where Codail and her brood were denning for the night and smiled slightly. The time spent in the Mizuka seemed to have been forever. And he would return there when this journey was over. Because it was his home now...Because Codail was there. Because the last remnants of his birthplace were there...

And because at least a few of the cubs would be returning with them. He'd grown to love them like they were his own blood, despite the fact he was not much older than they. And that he was not...well, he wasn't Codail's mate. But he wanted to be...oh he did. But he would be patient, and court her as was PROPER. Few understood what she'd lost when he lost his home. He understood perfectly, and he would be sure to not overstep his boundaries.

User ImageCaide wasn't so trusting with their new 'daddy'. He had watched the bigger male the better part of the day when he wasn't bugging Feid, his near twin, or trying to get his sister to wrestle with him. No, Caide wanted to protect his mother at all costs. The orange-eyed male would lay his life on the line for that of his family; that's how he was raised. Codail and her sister; his cousins... they were all so close knit, sharing a den at one point in his life. They'd been together for as long as Caide could remember.

Mentally, the white male cursed the lack of mists. If it had been home, he'd watch the brown one from the mists, perfectly still, not letting Dagda know he was there. He did that, more often than not, after his patrolling was over, or before he started.

This break, though, Caide knew he'd get a chance to get to know Dagda. He had too, for the safety of the family. Really, he had nothing against the once rouge. He'd done nothing against his family for Caide to harbor this mistrust.... It just happened by instinct. Someone new was trying to get into the family. Wouldn't everyone want to figure Dagda out? Stretching, he moved over to the big male and sat beside him, wondering just what he was doing. It was rest time on their journey to meet Caide's birth father. The perfect talk time. ....If Caide knew how to start a conversation with the other. "....."

Dagda looked to the pale male that sat beside him and smiled calmly. "Evening, Caide." Caide was perhaps one of his favorites of Codail's cubs. Curious, ever-vigilant...He reminded Dagda of himself when he was younger. "Looks like tomorrow will be a good day. Sunset's nice and red." He chuckled. "Red sky at night, rogue's delight. Red sky at morning, rogues take warning. I learned it from an old lion I met when I was younger than you. Hasn't been false yet."

He rolled his great shoulders a bit, seeking to loosen a muscle between them "So...how is everything? See any dangers about?"

So Dagda was one to talk a lot, it seemed. That was kind of interesting. It certainly made things a lot easier on Caide. He chuckled at the saying and then shook his head a little bit more, mane ruffling. He hadn't sensed any danger about, but old habits were hard to break. He was always on duty as a Ghost now, even if he didn't have to be. Not many would want to mess with a group this large.

"Yeah... There's nothing around. I'm keeping close watch on everything, though. Who said that saying? It sounds vaguely familiar, I just can't place it..." Truly, he heard a lot on duty. Yawning once again he let his tangerine colored eyes look to his mother and brothers, his sister probably sleeping already.

"I'm getting something of a headache, though. I mean, it's weird. I don't usually get the. The light's starting to hurt my eyes, too."

Dagda thought. "The rogue who taught it to me was named Chata. Nice old fellow...one of the few kind rogues I'd met." He'd met far too few kind rogues. His life before he'd met Codail and Muscail again had been a lonely one.

It was good thing that Caide was ever-vigilant. But...oh. Dagda nodded, knowing what Caide's problem was.

"You aren't used to so much undiluted light. Back home, the light is filtered through the trees. Here, there is nothing to filter it and protect our eyes."

That sounded scientific enough to work. He squinted a bit and sniffled, trying to keep the headache at bay. Oi, he hated it. It hurt and Caide hated pain unless he could see where it was coming from. Licking his lips a bit, he looked to Dagda and gave a bit of a smile. Caide knew he was a good man, good for his mother. And trusting him wasn't going to be that hard.

"Chata? I like that name," he said, trying to commit it to memory. But, that hurt his head more, so he left it be. "Dagda... why do we have to go see my real dad? I mean... why isn't he with us anyway?"

Well...that caught Dagda off guard. He blinked jade-colored eyes at Caide, then got a rather serious expression on his face. "Hmm...let me see if I can remember it correctly. Once I'm done, you may wan to ask your mother, in case there are things she hasn't told me, or things I did not get right." He shifted his bulk, digging for the tale Codail had told him.

"Your mother, before she had you, was a very lonely lioness. She'd lost two prides, a sister, her mate, her daughters...after a time, she was even separated from her twin. She wandered, very depressed and lonely for quite a few moons. And then she met your father. She tells me he was a very kind, very gentle lion. And he helped her, consoled her when her sorrow reached a peak. But she could not stay...and he would not leave. So they parted ways. Neither knew your mother was pregnant, at the time. And now...well, Codail thinks it best you know where you come from. Where your bloodline lies."

He listened intently as Dagda talked, and nodded in a few places. So that was he story behind everything. He curled his tail around him for a moment and then gave a long, thoughtful look. He would not stay in the Swamps; he couldn't see himself living anywhere but with his mom and Dagda.

"I won't stay. I'm going to make the journey back. These lands don't feel right to me.."

Dagda nodded. "That would make your mother very happy." He smiled kindly, an expression that was becoming less and less hard for him to gain. "She loves all of you very much. And...family is something very important to her. In our old pride, the Draíocht Coileán, she was the example the other mothers followed."

"She's a good momma." He nodded slowly and then laughed a bit. "She'll be a good grandma too! When I get mate and have my own cubs; we'll always be around you and her. You'll be a wonderful grandpa!" Caide liked Dagda. That much was true; he never had a father figure in his life, so Dagda is the only example he had.

"Aah, are we resting for the day? I'm so tired from all the walking..."

The large lion was caught a bit by surprise. Not by the praise Caide gave Codail...but by the praise given to HIM. "I..." He ducked his head, embarrassed. "I am glad you think that. I can only hope I'll live up to that." He and Codail weren't actually mates yet, since Dagda wanted to do it right...but both he and Codail knew they eventually would be. And Codail hadn't minded him providing a 'father' figure for her cubs.

"I do believe we are resting. If nothing else...your mother's started getting that 'drowsy' she gets when sleep will bring her visions."
PostPosted: Sun Apr 18, 2010 6:02 am

He nearly forgot about his mother's 'visions'. But, it meant resting well for the night. Caide nodded his head and gave Dagda a childish grin before butting his head against the bigger male's chest. "I'm going to go curl up with my siblings! It was.... good talking to you. I got to know you a bit better."

Before Dagda could say much else, the pale cub darted for the pile of other pale cubs and nestled in the middle, somehow. His tangerine eyes closed easily, and he drifted off before he knew it.
