Rory was on his knees, working on planting the flowerbed in front of the house while Lee puttered around inside. He smiled a bit to himself, enjoying the sun beating down on his bare back and the feel of dirt under his hands. He sat back on his haunches, wiping the sweat from his brow and leaving a smear of dirt behind. Leaning to the side, he called into the open door of the cottage, "Lee? Can you bring me some lemonade, girl?"

Lee hadn't been completely useless today, having taken Lauss up on an offer to study for once. Her head hurt a bit from all the reading she'd been doing, and was more than ready for a break. She heard Rory call out from the front of the house, and happily set the book she was holding down to help him out. Looking over to see that Lauss was completely enthralled in a textbook of his own, Lee stood, hurrying into the kitchen and pouring Rory the lemonade he'd requested. Stepping outside and to his side, she held the glass out, smiling at the scene before her. "Anything else..?" She really didn't want to go back to reading textbooks, and would even give gardening a try if it meant no more studying.

Rory took a long drink of lemonade then grinned up at her. "Thanks, lover. How's it lookin' in there, eh? Me folks are comin' by in a bit wi' me littlest sister. I'm almost done wi' th' garden. Whatcha think o' it?"

"It looks great." Lee smiled as she looked the garden over, finding it made the small home even more inviting. Giggling and wiping at the smudge mark on Rory's face, Lee tilted her head. "You might wanna get cleaned up if they're coming over." While she rather liked Rory's current look, especially when he had his shirt off, she thought it best he look bathed for company. "Lauss was busy cleaning earlier, so it looks good inside. A few books laying around, but that's it."

"Actually, Da's comin' o'er t' help plant th' apple tree an' do some other yard work. There ain't much point in cleanin' up t' get dirty again. Mum wants t' come make sure w' got th' fridge stocked an' show you some housewife tips. I know you ain't a housewife, but humor her, alreet?" Rory said, leaning into her hand and closing his eyes a bit.

Lee bit her lip and smiled at the prospect of having an apple tree in the yard. The home was really shaping up, and only after a short time of living there. She had to admit, she was a little relieved to hear that Rory didn't think of her as a housewife, but only because she knew she wouldn't be good at it. With his mother's help, though, she could turn out to be much better at cooking and cleaning. It almost seemed as if Rory was taking on all the roles, cooking and cleaning as well as working a rather difficult job. He, too, was the one looking forward to adding children to the family. Who exactly was the housewife here? "Don't worry. It's stuff I need to know anyway." She leaned down to kiss his forehead, giggling and wiping her lips when she realized how sweaty it was. "Tell me when they get here, then." She began to head back inside, wondering if she should keep Lauss around while they were here. Perhaps he could entertain Rory's little sister?

Rory caught her hand and kissed it before letting her head back in, turning to continue working the small garden. It wasn't long before Mr. and Mrs. McCormick were strolling up the path, Kendra running across the small bridge over the creek ahead of them. The little girl flung herself at her brother, knocking him down in a hug as he laughed and hugged her back.
"Honestly, Kendra," Mrs. McCormick said, shaking her head, then looked at Rory. "Where's Lee?"
"She's imside," the boy said, gesturing to the door, then called out louder, "Lee! Me parents are here."

Lee stood as she heard Rory's voice calling out to her, hurrying to put any books away before turning to Lauss. "You like kids, yeah?"
His eyes finally parting from the book in his hands, Lauss tilted his head. "I don't know," he answered softly, realizing he'd never really spoken to one before.
"Eh... just keep reading for now." She waved a hand at him, not really having time to ask him more. Lauss didn't seem to mind, either, continuing where he'd left off. Heading for the door and pulling at her dress -- she'd gotten into the habit of wearing those since they'd moved in, likely just a phase -- Lee appeared in front of Rory's family, smiling a bit. "Hello." She was still a bit nervous around them, for reasons she didn't know, but she liked them anyway.

"There she is," Mr. McCormick chuckled, walking over to hug the girl. "How've you been, lassie?"
Rory finally managed to get his little sister off him and stood up, moving over to kiss his mother's cheek. The two spoke in didikai for a moment then Mrs. McCormick patted the boy's cheek affectionately and looked at Lee, smiling. "How about you show me an' Kendra where t' put these groceries an' let th' lads talk awhile, eh?"

Smile widening as Mr. McCormick hugged her, Lee answered him with a bit more confidence in her voice. "Very good, actually. Rory's been taking good care of me." She giggled, looking over to the boy for a moment before turning to Mrs. McCormick, nodding and leading the ladies inside. Lee blinked, only just then noticing they'd brought the groceries. "Those are for us...?" She sounded surprised, but helped them put the food away.
More parents were making their way toward the young couples' home, crossing the small bridge slowly and casually. A servant walked close behind them, though had no apparent purpose for tagging along aside from how wealthy it made the couple look. Mrs. Katan looked as bored as ever, and Mr. Katan seemed both a bit irritated and worried. Cocking an eyebrow as she looked the tiny house over, Mrs. Katan sighed. "At least it's bigger than her last one..." Mr. Katan frowned over at her. "Try and keep an open mind. For Lee." Neither seemed to notice that Rory and his father were standing close by as the two looked over every inch of the house, judging whether or not it made for suitable housing for their only child.

"Oi, Mr. Katan," Rory called, smiling and waving to the man, letting his father take over putting the strawberry plant in the ground. He stood up, wiping his hands off on his jeans as he walked over to the Katans. He put out a hand to shake with Mr. Katan. "Lee's gonna be surprised t' see you. She's inside wi' me mum an' sister if you wanna gae on in, Mrs. Katan."

Shaking the young man's hand, Mr. Katan smiled and greeted Rory before looking down at the man working on the garden. He pieced together that it was the boy's father, and tilted his head to look inside. "Your family is here, as well? Very sorry for the intrusion... Lee told us she'd moved in with you, but never invited us over. We thought we'd come take a look. It's... very cozy." He smiled politely, trying to be both honest and nice. It was a difficult task, with expectations like his.
Mrs. Katan smiled and nodded at Rory's suggestion, though quickly dropped the act as she turned toward the door. Finding the three ladies inside unpacking groceries, she strolled toward the table, sitting casually as they worked. "Hello, Lee." Her faced looked anything but excited to see her daughter.
Lee's arm froze as she was reaching into a cupboard to put away a can of... well, she didn't know. "Dammit..." was all she could think to say, though luckily it wasn't nearly loud enough for her mother to hear. Looking back to see her, Lee's posture straightened, turning her whole body around to face the woman. "Hey... Why are you here?" That came out a bit ruder than intended, but she was curious.
"Is that any way to treat your mother?" She gave her daughter a look before turning her attention to Mrs. McCormick. "You're Rory's mother, yes?"

Rory smiled at the older man. "Thanks. I know it ain't much, but fae a didikoy, it's a castle. I want you t' meet me da."
Mr. McCormick stood up, wiping his hands off as well, and reached out to shake hands with Mr. Katan. "Pleased t' meet you, sir. Th' name's Anson. You got a fine lass there in Lee." He smiled at Mr. Katan. "Are you here t' gi' us a hand wi' settlin' th' kids in?"
"Aye, ma'am. I be Rory's dam," Mrs. McCormick answered, nodding. "You can call me Maddie, if you like." She went back to helping Lee put away the groceries.
Kendra walked over to Mrs. Katan and smiled up at her brightly. "D'you want some tea, ma'am?"

Taking the man's hand and forcing himself not to notice how dirty his own palms were getting, Mr. Katan smiled back. "Call me Herbert, if you'd like. Oh, Rory's a fine young man, as well." Blinking and looking slightly guilty at the man's question, Mr. Katan chucked uncomfortably a bit before answering. "We... we really just came by to... Yes, we came to help out," he lied.
"My name is Claudia, though no one calls me that." She chuckled, her words came out polite enough, but her underlying intentions were anything but kind. She may as well have said, "Please, call me Mrs. Katan." Looking down at the little girl in front of her, the woman's face stayed just as cold, her voice matching as she said a short, "Yes."
Lee finished putting away what was left and trotted toward the door, seeing that her father had come, too. Scratching her head, she was relieved to see her mother was remaining civil enough, but was still disappointed to see her. She'd wanted everything to look as perfect as possible, meaning the garden outside should have been planted, the inside cleaned thoroughly, and Rory... cleaned and fully dressed. It didn't help that the two sets of parents would be meeting already, something she hoped wouldn't happen for months, maybe even years.
