(Yeah, the name's a little weird... This is for my Oakley and Evermoon's Cairo)  The forest opened on a clearing here, where many thick-barked trees stood firm in the woods. Bushes settled low at their bases, hiding any unseen number of critters skittering to and fro under them, as well as one fairly larger creature, hardly visible from most angles, with it's eyes closed so the glint didn't befoul the absolutely perfect camouflage he managed. If a side-view weren't found, noone would even be able to detect that he existed there, pattered almost exactly like the tree against which he leaned, head pushed down against his throat so his nose didn't stick out. With much the same patience and manner as the Venus Fly Trap, he waited quietly, ears alert and flat against the tree so their dark insides didn't give him away. The only really detectable sign he was there was the off-shadows, if any seeped from the minute sunlight from the canopy, and the soft sheen of his nose.

 Cairo wondered around the forest, his nose pressed against the earth as he followed some of the strong scents that where criss-crossed across the forest. Pausing as he entered a clearing in the forest, keeping his nose pressed against the earth he looked up and glanced around trying to visibly find the scent that he had lost.
An acorn of the tree above him bounched off his head. Yelping Cairo jumped up and glared up in the treetops at the pissed off squirrel he had been stalking. "Oh! You stupid squirrel! Come down here and see how happy you are!" He growled at it before wondering away, keeping an eye on the critter and muttering under his breath.

Oakley stifled a laugh, letting his gold eyes fold open amidst the dark wood-face he sported. "Best not to demean the other animals. Squirrels might be about as flighty as robins, but they're intelligent. So much so that they don't need to worry about having snacks, come winter, when they bed down for their hibernations."
He returned to silence for a long moment, looking over the pup curiously. His markings were bright and striking, and seemed to place him in another climate than the forest. "Are you lost, pup?" He found quickly, when Cairo turned around to face him, that his markings were even more striking than he'd thought originally, noting the exasperated detail his emerald eyes lent to his face, alongside those henna-brown spots lined up under them like a hunting party.
Oakley still didn't move, though, waiting for the pup to find him with his eyes, first, curious what his response would be.

His ears twitched as Oakley's words entered them, turning around he scaned the clearing looking for whoever spoke and when he didn't see them the first time around he wondered in a small circle with his ears twitching and his nose working to try and find a scent.
In his wonderings his nose brushed against the fur of Oakley's tail and after looking at the brown fluff he yelped in surprise when he relized just what it was that he was looking at. Following the line up he looked at Oakley for a mintue before backtracking so he wasn't so close to the other wolf, tliting his head he blinked at him before making a confused face and inching forward to sniff at him.
"Did you know, that you look like a tree? How cool is that! Do you change color in the fall too? Just like the leaves?" He asked as his ears came forward and he gazed up at the other wolf in amazment.

Oakley chuckled, stepping away from his perch and giving a long stretch. As if his colors needed any more accent, the patterning on his legs made them look like tree stumps that moved to the whim of their connected carving. The markings stretched when he did, tilting this way and that until the vessels stood straight again, limb-like tail perched at half mast with a pride.
The only thing about him that didn't seem to completely resemble a tree was the thin strip of white, that looked almost like insect webbing, or sap stopped cold, despite the clear lucidity the fur carried in the wind as it waved softly. "I do look a might like the plants, yes... But I don't change colors. That would make it awefully difficult to keep track of hiding spots, don't you think?"
He smiled down at the cub again, though. "But... Are you lost? You don't much seem to be from around these parts, my friend."

Blinking Cairo tilted his head at the other wolf and, sitting down with his tongue hanging out and his tail going a mile a minute in the grass, he looked around the clearing.
“Lost? No not really… You gotta know where your going before you can get lost right? My papa left me here, he said it was safe and then he went away.” Cairo’s ears pressed against his head and he looked around the clearing again with sad eyes.
“I don’t know where papa went though…” Sighing he flopped to the ground and put his head on his paws. “I kinda miss Papa.”

Oakley watched the cub with folded brows, then settled his paw on the cub's head and dragged him through the dirt closer to him. "Hey. Your dad said something about it being safe here? Means he's trying to protect you. He probably went off to go hunt whatever was threatening his cub, eh?"
He smiled and ruffled the pup's fur a little. "So don't worry about your dad. He'll be fine. Now... What you gotta do is keep up your spirits and stay strong, so he has somethin' to protect? Don't want to give him any reason to stop fighting, right?"
