The game tonight will be bobbing for apples.
We will do a random number to grab an apple (1 to 500). That number will determine which color of apple you get & that decides your prize. You must pm me with your page number & link if possible to claim your prize. Prizes will be awarded on a first come first serve manner, so if you win pm me as soon as possible.
  Numbers to win: Red apple - 80 Yellow apple - 60 Green apple - 118 Golden apple - 476
There will be one prize available for each number. The value for the golden apple will depend on how many people attend the party.

Samhain festivals are dedicated to the harvest and the dead it is celebrated on October 31st. It was the traditional time for slaughter to prepare for the coming winter months.
Bonfires play a large part in the festivities. Villagers would extinguish all other fires and then each family would lit its hearth from the common flame and this was a bonding of the family to the village. A ritual of purification took place when 2 bonfires were built side by side and people would walk between them.
Samhain is when the boundaries between the world of the living and the dead become thin and allow spirits and other supernatural entities to pass into the living world. A door or window to the west would be left open to invite the dead. It is the custom to set a place for the dead at the Samhain Feast. Meals are prepared with the favorite foods of the family’s dead. Traditional songs, poetry & dances are performed to entertain the dead. Families tell tales of their ancestors that night. Another custom is to place a candle in the western window to guide the dead home.
....................................
Divination was common practice during the festival. Seasonal foods were used in the ritual. An apple would be peeled & thrown over your shoulder and the shape that it lands in was the first letter of your future spouse’s name. As nuts were roasted there movements were watched, if they stayed together then so would the couple. Egg whites dropped into a glass of water would tell the number of children you would have.

I wonder how Carl Kolchak the Night Stalker would react during the festival of the dead?
The movie was based on an unpublished novel titled The Kolchak Papers and was written by Jeff Rice. Later Pocket Books did publish the book as a paperback using the title The Night Stalker.
Darren McGavin starred a Carl Kolchak and Simon Oakland was Tony Vincenzo. Kolchak had a style all his own. He wore a Seersucker suit and a pork pie hat. He always had his portable tape recorder and his camera ready for what ever he might run into.
The movie was the highest rated TV movie at that time and resulted in a second movie being made. A third movie was planned, but instead it evolved into the television series. The series ran 1974-1975 and then was cancelled. It was still loved and 2 more movies were made. The series was about Kolchak who is an investigative reporter. He is a talented writer who investigates crimes with mysterious and unusual causes that the police refuse to accept.
In 2005 ABC did a remake of the series, calling it Night Stalker. One of the problems with this series is that ABC owned only the rights to the original TV movies and could only use characters that had appeared in the TV movies. The series only ran for 6 weeks. It centered around Kolchak investigating strange murders that he believed were linked to his wife’s murder.
Stuart Townsend starred as Carl Kolchak, Cotter Smith was Anthony Vicenzo, Gabrielle Union was Perri Reed and Eric Jungmann was Jain McManus.
