((OOC for casual readers: kitty is a generic NPC plot device at the moment. If someone does later want to have this have been their guardian cat, when they have one, let Silv and I know. Otherwise, it's just small, fluffy, and pointy.)) It wasn't that he didn't like cats, he didn't have any particular problem with them at all actually. He even liked cats, more especially the 'big' variety. (As demonstrated by the three different charms hanging off of his cell phone, all of which were lions.) The problem was, he really didn't have something he could do with this one, and it was determined that it would follow him. OK so that was his own fault for sharing part of his lunch, but he was a bit afraid that the small tawny kitten, of unknown parentage, was going to 'follow' him right into traffic. Well... assuming he got it unattached from his turtleneck for more than half a minute. "Look squirt...I don't think you've got this into your head, but you're pointier than some surgical instruments." He pointed out, futilely, holding it out carefully as he shouldered his way through the door to the animal shelter. "I'd love to bring you home, but I can't, and I'm sure as heck not going to bring you to Hillsworth...." He looked around as he backed in, looking for someone who might be able to help him out with his curious dilemma.

After a few moments waiting, a burst through the door behind the desk and came to a stop at the counter. "Hi," she said as her dark blue hair settled around her shoulders, "Welcome to the Destiny city humane society--"
Clearly, it was from rote, and when she noticed the kitten clinging to his shirt, she broke from the script and hopped up onto the counter.
"Oh, aren't you a little cutie!" She cooed, leaning forward. The boy it was attached to wasn't bad looking, either, she mused, and gave him a hesitant smile.
"Where'd you find him? Her? Him?" she wavered over the cat's gender. "I - I'm Tallulah. I work here. Do you mind if I--"
She motioned to the cat and slid off the counter to stand in front of him.
"Poor thing's scared half to death," she said apologetically.

"I uh, found him, her... downtown. I apparently made an error in judgment in letting him share my lunch and then he wouldn't stop following me. Then I picked him up so he wouldn't get nailed in traffic or something..." Jaimie seemed equally uncertain of the gender, not having had reason to pick up the skill. He juggled slightly to hold the kitten in one hand and offered her his other hand. "Jaimie. Nice to meet you. And sure, although you might need surgical equipment to get it back off..." he joked. "I'm boarding for school so I couldn't really take it there, so I figured this was my best option."
Tallulah was an interesting name, not the sort you heard very often, and he wondered if she shortened it among friends, and if if she did, what to? Tally? Tal? He had to assume not LuLu....That seemed more like something an obnoxious relative would use while pinching cheeks.
((I'm assuming boy kitten, just for randomosity.))

"It's so little," sighed Tallulah as she took hold of the kitten and tried to work it away from Jaimie's shirt. "It must have gotten separated from its mother."
This, she thought to herself after the fact, was obvious. The kitten relinquished its grasp and she flipped it over before it could latch onto her swim team jacket.
"Boy," she announced with a laugh, and plopped him into a cardboard box on the counter. "Did he scratch you or bite you?"
It hadn't managed to get her, but with strays you could never tell if they had rabies or not, even the little ones. She'd have to take him back and have the vet look at him once this was cleared up.

"Well he grabbed a lot but I haven't checked to see if he broke skin. No biting anything that wasn't food though." He offered. "And no scratching, just the grabbing. I think the shirt is irreparably perforated though." Big words...showing off a bit, but there were an assortment of tiny claw marks in the fabric from it's determined grip.
"I didn't hear any others around, he was kinda hanging around near one of the shops, I think 'cause he could smell the food. I can check around on my way back and see if I spot any others though."

Tallulah waved her hand. "Don't worry about that," she said with a wince. "If you find more and bring them in and we can't adopt them out, they'll just get put down."
It was the only part of working at the shelter that she didn't like.
"You'd better check it out, just in case," she added. "I hear rabies kind of sucks."
She looked at the kitten in the box. For the moment, he was suitably contained.
"I don't think this little fellow's going anywhere. Thanks for bringing him in. What school are you from?"

"I'll have someone take a look." He promised, grimacing in sympathy for the kitten. "I hope he gets a home though. My dad's into dogs and I couldn't really ship him home -anyway-...so. Bad match." He admitted. "Oh uh..." He grimaced slightly, given what he was admitting with this last revelation. Which really wasn't -all- his fault, people really were overreacting. And it HAD been Celeste's idea....
"...Hillsworth... Also, not really kitten territory."
He ran his fingers through his hair and gave her his best 'devil may care' grin, just to show how clearly inconsequential it was that he was going to Hillsworth, and to hopefully make himself look harmless, and not like the classic trouble-kid from Hillsworth.

"No, I guess it isn't," agreed Tallulah. She hopped back up on the counter, and as she turned to slide feet first on the other side, the back of her jacket came into view. It said 'Meadowview Swim and Dive'.
"I better get this little guy to the vet on duty," she said, patting the box. The kitten mrowed insistently. "Who knows, maybe he's microchipped. Where'd you find him? Just in case someone comes looking."
It was unfortunate that it was hard to get cats to wear collars. Dogs were so much easier to return to their owners.

"I'll cross my fingers for him." He admitted, stuffing his hands in his pockets, then pausing to fish out a scrap of paper. "Got a pen? I'll give you my email. If he ends up on skid row I'll see if I can call on some folks I know, see if we can find him someplace. If you're not busy training for the Olympic Swim team." He added, still trying to joke a bit.
Meadowview huh? Better than Crystal, he supposed, or she probably would have already hit him with a blotter and run. "I found him near the burger shop down town, on the main stretch. The one with that does the really good steak-fries, instead of the toothpick sized kind."

"Yeah, hold on," said Tallulah, and went digging in the desk. "Hopefully it's just a mix up," she added, and wondered where all the pens had gone. "Hopefully he'll be fine and this is just a glitch... here!"
She handed him a ballpoint with the name of the shelter printed on the side.
"Keep it. It's advertising. We've got a zillion more. Somewhere."
"I know that restaurant," she added conversationally. "They do great soy burgers. With guacamole."

"I'll admit I haven't tried the soyburgers." He glanced at the card and then tucked it carefully into a pocket, then wrote an email address on the paper and handed it to her. It didn't match the alias he used for his fan-fiction writing, since he was careful to keep the two of them separate. if he didn't, one day he'd run into someone who actually knew it, and would loose the entire game behind Kitsunetrick. "Thanks." He added. "If you don't mind being seen with a delinquent maybe we can grab a burger sometime. Might even talk me into the soy-burger."

"Is that a challenge?" she asked, smiling only slightly. She picked up the box with the kitten in it. "Well, I'd better get this little fellow all checked in," she sighed. There was always the temptation to play with the cats, but you had to make sure they got all their shots and such first. It wouldn't be good if rabies or feline leukemia got loose in the shelter.
"See you around, Jaimie," she said.

"Might be." He grinned, impishly again, though inside his ego was curled up in the corner, sulking over her unenthusiastic response to the offer. So much for trying to socialize with someone this side of a Hillsworth uniform. Damnit.
"Yeah, see ya." He agreed, shrugging broadly and turning to go. Oh well, at least the cat wasn't in the middle of traffic. Doofy kitten. Cute. But doofy.
