Hello, its me again.

This time I am asking : Is it wrong to like/want to read or watch Harry Potter? Back when the first 5 books came out I wasn't really all that concerned about it, but now my concious has been eating away t me. My parents bought me the 6th one (like they always do) and the day I got it, I put it on my shelf and I haven't touched it. Is it wrong? I know its just a story and all, but still.......I have seen the movies...just yesterday I went and saw the 4th with my mom and sister.

In addition, is it wrong to kill people on video games if its not neccasary? I know its just a game, but "Thou shalt not kill" rings in my ears whenever I see a level 7 (NPC) farmer or a level 8 Highways man and want to kill them for their gold and items they may carry.

Watching or reading Harry Potter is not sinful but the Bible does suggest to stay away from wicked things. Harry Potter contains occultism material which is demonic and it could influence people into occultism. The important key is don't believe or practice magick (witchcraft) or occultism in Harry Potter because it can lead people into demonic trouble. Its heavy stuff....

As the for video games, I asked the same question to myself when I played 'Medal of Honor' game, so I went to the Bible to find my answer.

"Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him." 1 John 3:15

"...the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. These are the things which defile the man..." Matthew 15:18-20

Hate is murder and murdering thoughts is murder.
1. You need to find out why or how the video game is effecting you.
2. I suggest that if you feel its wrong, don't play the game because there is a reason why for you to feel that way.

Jesus made use of fiction in His ministry quite often, through his parables. Fiction in-as-of-itself is not bad, as long as you can understand that it is just that, make-believe. As for the subject of Harry Potter? In one parable, Jesus talked about a man who stumbled upon a feild. In this field lay buried a great treasure. The man became obsessed with gtting the treasure, so he went out and sold all he had. Then he went and bought the land that the treasure was buried in. Now, as we know this parable was to show how important God and Heaven should be to us. However, in this story, the man not only shows poor long term deciscion making (by selling everything for a treasure of this material world) but he deceives the owner of the treasure by tricking him out of it. I seriously doubt that God would approve of such things.

See above. Killing things in a game isn't wrong. I kill lots of things in video games. Heck, I like being the 'bad guy' in games just so I can sow destruction and chaos. I know, however, that that is just a game and that, given the same oppourtunities in real life, I would choose the right path. As long as you can discern between fact and fiction, then go ahead, and gank those NPCs.

Okay, I'm too lazy to read everything, but I just wanted to say this.

One, as long as you can tell the difference between fact and fiction, I think it's fine. If you have the urge to go out and kill people or to try witchcraft, then you shouldn't read Harry Potter or play killing video games, but as long as you know what's real, then you'll be fine. Also, the Chronicals of Narnia are practically a rewrite of the bible, and that takes place entirely in a magical world. Lord of the Rings, also, is a representation of things in the bible. And, really, what kid never imagines having magical powers?

Also, the witches in Harry Potter don't get their power from Satan. It's a power they're born with, so it's not telling people to go out and become wiccans or anything. It also has very strong morals, with definately evil characters and love as a very important aspect.

The main thing is to stay in touch with reality. As long as you know it's pretend, there shouldn't be anything wrong with it.

If you're feeling convicted about it, you should probably stay away from it. Whether or not Harry Potter is wrong is a matter of debate, but if you're feeling guilty about it, it will be easier on you if you just give it up. If something makes you feel horrible, it's not worth continuing to do it just because someone online tells you it isn't wrong. Same deal with the killing people thing. Some people feel convicted about it, some don't. But the important thing is you are sensitive to what the Holy Spirit tells you about these things, and that you are obedient to Him.

Believe it or not, Harry Potter has, in fact, influenced the younger children. The are introduced to actually Witchcraft and Wiccanry...in some cases, paranormal events were reported.

What do I think? As long as people realize that it is just fiction (and believe me, there are people that wish it were reality dream so far as to actually believing it), and as long as they understand true Witchcraft doesn't turn someone into a frog (basically, if they still grasp their senses), it's fine.

As for violent video games...same.
As long as the fact that fake violence does not imitate real violence, it's fine. Although, it does influence more than young children...
Play them long enough (play extremely violent games enough), your head will be messed up.

I know as I have heard from millions of people and the bible which doesn't lie. Do not touch, see, seek, want anything to do with sorcery, witchcraft, spells, or anything to do with that, because sorcery, witchcraft, casting spells, ect. is using the devils power and actually working under and for him.

okay. its great to know that you think about the bible and issues like that, but if you think killing videogame characters are wrongl, dont buy game that involve killing. buy tetris or something.

and harry potter isn't wrong. it doesnt glorify witch craft. it glorfies love and friendship.

You are right Harry Potter just shows how you can make friends and have a great time with them. Vidoe games are not bad but if you take what the games are like and try that on people then you are wrong. Do not kill people in reality but on a vidoe game it is okay because it is not reall and just a game.

Once again.

We all need tp draw the lines between fiction and reality.
What happens in games doesn't apply to real life. You can fly in some video games, its not that way in real life. It's just a game, dont get too worried about it.

Also Harry Potter. is fiction, theres no evil thing about it. But the only thing I can say is, don't put Harry Potter before God. God doesn't like idols. So make sure your spending more time doing things to honor God then you are reading novels.

Sorry if I'm repeating anyone. I read a few of the posts but I'm lazy. Anyway, I love Harry Potter. My mom started reading the books because she thought that it might have secret spells hidden in it or something. She's hooked now like me. We go to see every movie and we read every book. Anyway, J.K. Rowling doesn't believe in magik. I'm not sure of her religion but the books are easily comparible to the Choronicles of Narnia. Please skip the next part if you have not read the 6th book or else you will be terrible confused.

Volemort - Satan
Dumbledore - Jesus
Harry - God

Note: I'm not saying these people are God/Jesus/Satan but there are events in the books that are similiar to those in the bible. As for video games I have no idea. As far as I'm concerned, they're games. As long as you don't go around killing people or hating people because of them then I don't see a problem with it.

Might I point out these are fiction. The main problem with killing people is that they die as a result, and when you "kill" people in video games, no-one dies, so what's the problem?

Harry Potter is a book, if you don't belive in what they are doing, and you are a good christan it shouldn't effect you. You know who you are and what you stand for. People are not influenced by things, people make their own choices. If you read the book and thing wow this is cool, you're not going to go to hell, nor be punished for it. Just so everyone knows, christanity is a cult, cult isn't a bad word, nor does it mean negative influences on people.

As for the video game, you are not running a dagger through a person's heart in real life. You are not killing anyone, it is a pixle, just a computer animation. They have no feelings nor do they hold any life, so if you kill them on the game, it's not like you killed them, they had no life to start with in the first place. You cannot take away what one does not have. However if you feel like it's a bad thing and it is harming you mentally, I suggest not doing it. This is just my opinion, only you can decided in the end.
