"Sweet little bird, sweet little bird. Song of the sky, jewel from on high." Zana smiled as she curled her tail around her haunches looking up into the tree at the bright, colorful parrots who were watching her. Giggling softly, she closed her eyes and began to sing again.

Her young voice, filled the air, even stilling the birds in the tree. True it was a little breathy right now, but the promise of true talent filled each tone. The words were silly, talking about how the birds danced in the sky with the sun before coming back to bring the gems of the sun's palace to those stuck on earth.

She was a picture sitting out in the bright afternoon sun, the light almost giving her white fur a haze to it. The purple tuft of her tail, twitching in time to the song that spilled form her, caught up in her own world of magic and music.

He was continuing his quest; a mission to find and collect the lady of his heart, and the soul he'd seen in his vision. The girl, though he didn't know what she looked like, was constantly on his mind. His head, always in the clouds, was often disconnected from his feet and Naeem, carelessly playful, was swiftly growing accustomed to getting lost.

His stomach growled audibly, reminding him that it was time for lunch, and the young lion was about to turn back and follow his steps home when the wind carried an interesting sound passed his ears. What was that?

Naeem had never heard singing before. It was new, and utterly strange to him. Curious, but with a half-sleepy expression on his face, the little lion forgot his hunger and started in the direction of the noise.

Zana wasn't aware that he voice had caught the interest of anyone, save the twittering birds above her head. When her lavender eyes finally opened again, the last pure note slowly fading away, she squeaked startled and promptly fell off the bolder she had been sitting on, disappearing behind it.

The birds, as if released from a spell, took wing as one, thundering into the sky with a rush of noise and feathers, likely startling both youngsters again.

She cautiously poked her head around the rock, ducking back quickly, embarrassed as she saw him still there. Of course, he couldn't have seen her all graceful and elegant. No, he saw her fall off a rock and get rained on by stupid bird feathers.

The young lion arrived just in time to see the little lady tumble of off the boulder and into the grass. He blinked, surprised that she'd stopped singing and seemed almost to shake himself out of a reverie, before taking a couple of inquisitive steps closer.

The birds that rocketed out of the trees overhead startled him, and his fur bristled. He glanced around, wary of danger. When nothing attacked, he turned his attention back to the ball of fluff cowering behind the rock. It was a couple of moments before he found the presence of mind to speak.

"Are you okay?" Naeem asked softly, and he stared, wondering what she would do next.

"Only my pride is hurt," she sighed faintly as she shook her fur out. Her speaking voice had the same soft, musical tone her singing had as she finally lifted her head to look at him, blinking in surprise. Whatever she had expected to find, it certainly wasn't him.

A small smile appeared on her face as she stretched out her legs careful to make sure she hadn't actually done herself some minor injury. "It seems that I am perfectly alright. Only my ego is a bit bruised. " She chuckled weakly that someone had witnessed her..less than graceful moment.

"Forgive me if my song was disturbing you. Not many people seem to love the heat of the midday sun like I do." Most of her family were napping in the shade somewhere, well away from the punishing midday heat. "I am Zana."

He hadn't noticed until she'd pointed it out, but it was rather hot out. Once she did, however, he felt it.

"It is rather warm out, isn't it?" Naeem smiled sweetly at her, "and I do not see any bruises. You look perfect to me."

It was true; meant innocently enough. Zana was rather pretty, he couldn't help but notice, and his heart gave a little flip.

"You're... song didn't bother me," Naeem shook his head as he tested out the new word. So, that was what she'd been doing. "I am Naeem. Zana, are you the lady of my heart?"

The young lion couldn't help himself. What if she was? He didn't want to risk the chance of losing her!

Zana blinked at him stunned when he asked if she was his lady. Now a few might have laughed at him outright, but that would have been cruel, and while she could be blunt sometimes, she strove to never be cruel.

"Well I am glad my singing didn't bother you, Naeem. As for being your lady, I do not know that. I might or might not be, only the gods know that for sure," She smiled at him gently, " But I do know one thing for sure...and that is I would defiantly like to be your friend."

He looked so lost and nervous, that he just called out to her. She wanted to sooth him and make him smile again. He was rather cute when he smiled.

"Would you like to go lay in the shade with me so that we may talk in comfort?"

The Gods. That made him c**k an eyebrow. He'd have to remember to ask his mother about that later.

"I would like a friend," Naeem continued to smile, though it upset him a little that she didn't know whether or not she was the lady of his visions. This was a problem he hadn't foreseen. He'd always assumed that his lady would know him, but if she didn't, what could he do? He had no way of figuring out who she was!

When she asked him to go and rest in the shade, the young lion was temporarily distracted from his newfound predicament. It would be nice to get out of the sun for awhile, before he had to walk back home.

"Yes," he nodded, and turned towards the nearby trees, "and then maybe you can show me how you sing. I would like to learn."

She smiled at him again as she headed towards a small watering hole she knew of. The water wasn't deep, but the trees surrounding it where thick and heavy leafed providing a comfortable cool spot from the heat of the day.

"Welcome to my little haven," She giggled softly as she ducked her head under the draping branches to enter the cool shade. "Would you like something to eat? I am not much of a hunter, but there are some fish in the pond."

Normally, she would never admit just how bad a hunter she was, but he was her friend and friends didn't make fun of friends. "I found this place when I was hiding from my brother one day. He is rather mean and makes fun of my love of music."

When Zana led, he followed, quietly and with that silly, trademark half-sleepy smile on his fuzzy face. Naeem's energy was lively, but it was more like fluid than electricity. Everything he did had a gentle, rolling edge to it.

Until they reached the shade provided by Zana's little retreat, Naeem hadn't realized exactly how hot it was. He exhaled in delighted surprise at the mild change in temperature, and his mouth watered at the site of the pond.

"It is really nice under here," he ventured conversationally, eyes flickering to the vibrantly colored, though decidedly small, fish that called this place home. He spoke honestly. "I am hungry, but I have never caught a fish before. They look very slippery."

Naeem looked up, expression one of shocked outrage, "Your brother should not make fun of you like that! Your music is wonderful."

It didn't matter that his knowledge of the subject was limited to the sounds he'd heard her make earlier. They had sounded perfectly fine to him.

Zana's laugh was light and easy as she left him in the shade, to pad into the water, a purr spilling form her at the coolness lapping around her ankles. She loved the water, another thing that marked her as an oddity in her family.

"I don't mind that he teases me. They are only words and cannot hurt me unless I let them hurt me." She smiled back at Naeem, " I know what makes me happy and I will not let something so petty spoil my joy."

She turned her attention back to the small fish darting around her legs. When her attention lapsed from him, she began to hum again, focusing on the fish. She would quickly scoop her paw, tossing water and the little fish onto the bank in front of him.

Naeem neither loved, nor hated the water. It was important when he was thirsty, but that was about all he knew. He watched, curiously, as Zana's paws all but disappeared beneath the glossy liquid surface.

Her attitude pleased him, and he smiled. There was something, however, that he didn't quite understand.

"If you don't mind his teasing, why did you hide from him here?"

The purple youth blinked in surprise when the little fish, wriggling and wet, flopped onto the ground at his feet. Its eyes flashed in the dark, and Naeem had the presence of mind to slap his own paw down on it, to keep it from escaping. His stomach rumbled.

Zana giggles softly "you are suppose to eat it silly, not just stand on it." Turning her attention back to the water and the fish drifting around her paws while she thought about his questions.

"It is not that I mind the teasing most the time, but sometimes it gets to be too much and I come here where it is peaceful. He is my brother and I love him very much, but being together all the time can be stressful for all of us."

She lifted her head to smile at him again, " Eat your fish before it escapes."

"That makes sense," Naeem replied breezily, "I do a lot of walking during the day, so it is nice to go home and see my family. I do not pick on my sisters, though, when I see them."

Her delicately delivered order, which was more of a suggestion anyways, made him pause. She was right. He might as well eat. It would be a couple of hours before he'd make it home, anyways, and by then he might be too exhausted for supper.

"Aren't you hungry?" Naeem asked her softly, in between mouthfuls of fish.

Zana smiled again, " Well you are a good brother then.I am sure your sisters love you very much." How she wished she could be close to her brother, but there was something wrong with him, something that worried their father.....

Shaking her head to rid herself of the sad thought, she turned her attention back to her new friend. "Yes, I will catch myself some fish once you have eaten your fill. I have to make sure to take care of you, we are friends after all."

Humming softly again, she padded about in the water, enjoying the cool squish of mud between her toes as well as the ripple of the water around her legs.
