Foenix and her crew live in one of the houses closest to the Community Centre. The front yard is very pretty, with a rock garden and flowers out front. There is a small man-made pond over to one side, just deep enough for an Aerandir child to swim in. Large planters stand on the front porch, filled with lush blooms and greenery. A paper lantern and a wind chime hang together by the front door. On the east side of the house, two large garden plots are marked off. One is set directly into the ground, and there are neat rows marked with several standard fruits and vegetables, although there are also a few more unconventional choices. The next garden is a traditional raised plot, such as those used in Medieval monasteries. Hardy herbs and other such plants peek up through the rich soil. Over to the side, a small bamboo fountain provides a soothing accent touch. Both gardens have seen some hard times, but the plants are well cared-for, and they are recovering gradually. The house itself is very comfortable. The main room includes a large, comfy couch and two chairs upholstered in dark gray suede. There are several throw pillows covered in watered silks of deep gold, emerald, cobalt, and ruby. There's an iron-and-glass coffee table standing in the middle of the room, holding several books and a small fountain. The hard-wood floor is, as yet, untouched by rug or carpet, but that may change. The walls are covering in fun art deco and old theatre prints, which lend some more strong color to the room. There's a simple kichenette over to the side. The oven is fairly new, replaced after an unfortuate 'incident.' Skillets and pans hang side by side over the stove top. Several small pots line the window sill. Some have little seedlings already rooted there, whereas others are still waiting for sprouts to show thorugh the soil. They lend a pleasant scent to the air. Foenix's room is fairly basic. There is a simple full-sized bed, with ivory linens and a wine-colored velvet duvet set. The left side of the bed holds several books, all obviously well-read. A desk to the side holds notebooks, sketchpads, and various kitch, and a tall bookshelf filled with books of all sorts. A large closet holds the clothing. On the second floor, one room has been cleared and a large desk and comfy armchair placed there. Bookshelves line the walls, but books still manage to overflow onto the furniture and floor. The desk holds a laptop and several sets of batteries to charge it. A second room, the most sunny in the house, is nearly empty, save for several plank tables. These tables are mostly empty, but a few hold pots larger then the ones down in the kitchen. Again, they are a mixture of seedlings and unsprouted soil.

Name:Nehanda Gender: Female Description: Pale pelt, with black markings on legs, ears, and below eyes. Golden eyes. Ivory hair, wings, and long tail. Likes: Most music, any sort of plant, playing with her friends (when Foenix has time). Dislikes: Being rushed, meat, rap and heavy metal music, big cities. Personality Nehanda is an incredibly cheerful young woman. She is also very patient (at least, as patient as any teen can be), probably as a result of working with her plants. She can also be rather stubborn, and has a mind of her own when it suits her.
Name: Cerise Gender: female Description: Ruddy fur and a long, full tail. Wings are covered in scarlet feathers that deepen to purple on the undersides. Head is covered in similar scarlet feathers. Eyes are golden, tinged with green. Likes: Shadows and quiet, ripping things (especially cashmere sweaters) to shreds Dislikes: Bright sunlight Personality: To the frustration of Foenix and Nehanda, Cerise is not a particularly friendly gryphon. She's destructive and anti-social, and does not seem at all interested in the activities Foenix and Handa enjoyed when Handa was a gryphon.

Foenixfyre prefers to go by Foenix. It's shorter, after all. She considers herself fairly uninteresting, with long auburn hair and blue eyes. These, she declares, will never change, especially the long hair. She's 22, and married. Greg, her husband, is not a Gaian community member, but he helps out from time to time. She loves to read (primarily Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Nora Roberts's romance novels), and can devour a 500-page book in a single day, if given the time. She also enjoys knitting and other forms of needle-work, and can often be found wearing one of her own sweaters. It's a very satisfying hobby. Kylara Kylara is one of the very first Jivvins! Generally very patient and kind, she loves to play Older Sister to the other pets and family members. Cira Cira only hatched very recently. Since she's just a little baby, we don't know too much about her personality. But there's something very different about her . . . Freya Freya is a Fenthry. She tends to be very shy, and loves to sit on Foenix's shoulder, hiding beneath her hair. She was thought to be mute for the majority of her life, and so is proficcient in ASL. However, she found her voice soon after becoming a teen, although she still usually prefers to remain silent. Tragically, the shop ower abandoned the Fenthry shop, and Freya is probably doomed to remain a teenager for the rest of her life. Nahda Nahda was a . . . V-Day "gift" from Dfly. Isn't she absolutely precious? I'm not sure that I've ever seen such a carefree child! She's affectionate, and will share her hugs and ksses with anyone who seems friendly! Atari Atari is a Telesma, and only recently emerged from her Talisman form. Isn't she cute? She doesn't do much, aside from blinking her antenna, swishing her tail, and making little meow-beeps, but I find her very soothing and keep her with me. Cran Yes, Cran, as in Cranberry. He was a Christmas gift from Fae! And oh, he is sweet, and soft, and cuddly! Even if he does like to make off with Foenix's hairpins . . .

Nehanda: Rahujo was the first adult Aerandir we ever met. She's the blacksmith, and seems like a very reserved individual. Rahujo forged the sickle that changed me from Gryphon to Wisp to Child, so she is very special to me. Cerise: . . . Nehanda: This is Acia, who lives with Alyosha, and is the resident Spell Caster. She is, in my humble opinion, the most gorgeous of the current adults. Unfortunately, that beauty is paired with an almost painful shyness toward adult humans like Foenix. She established my gardens, and led me on my Youth Quest. Cerise: . . . Nehanda: Pueblo is easily my best friend among the Aerandir. Her guardian is Foenix's old friend Fae. She is very intelligent and friendly. Together, we became the first of the current Aerandir youths. Since then, we've sent even more time together. Cerise: . . . Keanu is a very cute little falcon/badger mix. He and Nehanda enjoy playing together, especially since Keanu's chosen job, that of Cook, falls into the same Herbal type as Nehanda's Healer job. It will be nice to have someone to swap herbal recipies with! Foenix was in touch with Emi, blanche's guardian, by mail long before they ever met. Blanche recently transformed into a child, and is literally finding her feet. she's a Ice Spellcaster, and this fascinates Nehanda somewhat. She's a truly gorgeous little girl. Osu is a Fire Spell Caster. He's very outgoing and playful, and this appeals to Nehanda's own cheerfulness. The second time Nehanda met Oleo, she fell out of a tree almost on top of him! They've gotten to know each other quite well, because Oleo stayed with Handa and Foenix while his guardian, Air Song, was away from the island. He's also very cheerful, and more then willing to help Nehanda water her gardens.

6.3.06 Acia and Osero took Nehanda and Pueblo off to a special island. When they returned, they had become youths! 12.15.05-12.21.05 There was an earthquake and a volcano on a neighboring island erupted! There was a lot of damage to the community. Several houses were badly damaged, and Nehanda's garden was descimated. 4.20.05 The quest is completed, the items are gathered together, and Nehanda transformed into an adorable child! 4.08.05 Rahujo came over and gave Nehanda a lovely knife and sickle. Upon touching them, Nehanda evolved into Wisp form! We've been set a task to fulfill before Nehanda can continue on to Child form. 2.14.05-2.15.05 With Acia's help, we constructed a set of gardens for Nehanda. She loves tending to her plants. 2.07.05 Nehanda emerged, a beautiful blue glowing wisp of energy, from her jar today! Fifteen minutes later, she transformed into a lovely swan/equine gryphon! Whoo hoo! 2.04.05 The artifacts are glowing, indicating that they have begun to merge! 1.31.05 The artifacts have been combined into a single jar! It is likely that the Aerandir will be female, so I've chosen the name Nehanda for her. 1.27.05 I won 2nd place in the Flatsale, and chose the pieces that will create my Aerandir! 1.24.05 I received the pamphlet and found my way over to the shop, where I promptly made some new friends and began lurking for the upcoming sale. 9.13.06 Cerise emerged from her pod! 8.09.06 Nehanda thinks she felt a dark, angry emotional surge upon touching the seed pod. But it hasn't happened again, so she really can't be sure. 7.23.06 The seed pod has started to glow! 6.15.06 Nehanda recieved a fluff and feather from Acia. She promptly inserted them into one of the seed pods she brought back with her from her growth quest. We're waiting to see what happens . . .

I'm not a scientist, and it's really not possible to determine what sort of horse the bone came from. It's almost certain that this scecific bone is from the lower front leg. I can't be certan, but I believe it belonged to a light -riding- breed. These horses, of which there are many breeds, come in a multitude of coat colors and purposes. However, they are all bred for intelligence, lightness, and speed. Somehow, I find it reassuring to know that my little one will quite likely be smart . . . As for the feather, I believe it comes from a Mute Swan. These beautiful birds are known by a certain list of facts, which I've spent waaaay too long putting together. According to one web site, Mute swans have been cherished as symbols of purity and elegance for centuries. Native to Europe and Asia, they were transported to North America in the late nineteenth century by European immigrants. Some swans eventually escaped or were deliberately released into the wild. Adults can grow up to 70 inches long, with a wingspan of up to 96 inches! My Gods. The adults also have an orange bill with a black base, black legs and feet, entirely white plumage, and very fluggy back feathers. The cygnets are usually white, but can also be grey in color. The Eclectus Parrot Scientific Name: Eclectus roratusSize: Approximately 14" long Wingspan: Up to 28" Weight: Up to 16oz. Appearance: The Eclectus is the most color dimorphic parrot in the world. In fact, the male and female look so different that they were originally thought to be two completely different species! The male is usually bright green with red and blue patches. The female is crimson with a blue belly and purple underwings. Because of their beauty, these birds were considered gifts from the Gods in early Egypt. Habitat: These birds are commonly found in the Solomon Islands, New Guinea, and NE Australia. they prefer lowland forests and clumps of tall trees. Eating Habits: As do most parrots, the Eclectus prefers fruits, nuts, flower nectar and leaf buds. In captivity they enjoy pellots. In addition, they're total pigs; don't ever get between an Eclectus and it's food! The Somali Scientific Name: Felis catusAppearance: The Somali is an offshoot of the Abyssinian. They are of moderate size and weight. The most outstanding characteristic is the fur, which is soft and medium length. They have longer hair over the chest and hindquarters, and a magnificent busy tail which has resulted in the nickname "fox cat." Somalis are ticked cats, which means that each hair has bands of darker color. Show-quality somalis don't have any striping, but the ticking often results in a darker shine of color along the back, called an "eel stripe." The most common colors are ruddy, red, blue and fawn. Again, the show-quality cat should have white fur only around the mouth and under it's chin.

Quote: 1.29.05 Once again, it's well after midnight and I'm unable to sleep without Greg here. My two artifacts sit on my desk, where I can see them easily, and the kettle will hopefully soon begin to whistle. I'm very fond of my bedtime tea. I've continued in my search for the bone's origins. I almost wish that I had decided to major in some sort of science in college; it might make this easier. I may simply have to wait until the artifacts have joined and evolved to create the Aerandir's gryphon phase. Perhaps then, I will be able to take some hint from my little one's characteristics, and finally place the bone. Every now and then, the feather seems to flitter a bit. I know that the top is tightly secured, and there is no possible way for a draft to enter and move the feather. Is this a sign of life? I truly hope so. I begin to imagine the things that we will do together. I have brought several of my pets and "children" to live with me at the cabin. Kylara, my Jivvin, has greatly enjoyed assisting me in my research. She reads almost as fast as I do! Freya taps the jars, then becomes bored and wanders off. Zimra and Rani are taking advantage of the horse yard; I've twice had to shoo Rani off from the sweet feed I'm keeping in reserve. He doesn't even really like the stuff, but I think he does it to tease me. Well, the kettle has started to whistle. I should go turn the stove off, and set my tea to steep. Perhaps then I'll be able to drift off to sleep.

Quote: 1.31.05 I walked outside this morning and found an envelope waiting for me beside the door. A letter Dear Foenixfyre, I am happy to note that the accomodation you were allocated has now reached a stage which is suitable for your Aerandir items to be placed together within a single bottle. This will allow for them to "merge" - admittedly, however, this process may take some time. The reason I am writing to you is to confirm that we have a name for your Aerandir for our records. Further study of the evidence gleaned from your artifacts has shown that there is a 76% chance of your Aerandir being female. I included this information with the hope of perhaps aiding you in choosing a name. If you could get back to me with haste I will arrange for all of the formalities to be completed so that we may start you on your way as an Aerandir guardian. Yours sincerely, Alyosha. How incredibly exciting! As a result, I'm currently sitting at the desk in my room, pouring over the list of names I have been building. Knowing that my little one will likely be female certianly does make this easier! Names are so much more important then people realize. Many cultures speak of "true names," which engender everything that a person or creature is. To know one's true name is to hold a sort of power over that individual. I look up, and stare at the two artifacts sitting cozily within their jars. Both swan and horse are creatures of immence grace. But they are also strong. The swan is one of the largest water birds know to man, has been featured in countless legends and fairy tales. The horse has served as beast of burden, friend, warrior, performer . . . How am I supposed to combine so many similar and different characteristics? I glance down once more at the list lying before me, and my eyes fall upon a single name. Nehanda. It is a Zezuru name, meaning both "the beautiful one has arrived" and "hardiness." It seems to fit. Could it be that easy? I expected to agonize over these names for hours; there are so many. No, I think this is it. I hurry off eagerly to send a reply to Alyosha.

Quote: 1.31.05 (second post of the day) I'm finding it a bit hard to settle down, now that I know my Aerandir artifacts will soon be merging. I visited the shop and spent some time talking to Nyxa. Her artifacts (cockeral tail feather and panther tooth) have already been combined, and she has chosen to name him Lucius, after the Bringer of Light. After sending my message to Alyosha, I spent some more time putting together my bedroom. A second bookshelf has been set up opposite my desk and filled with books that I couldn't fit on the shelves out in the main room. The covers are all worn, and many are faded, for I have owned them for many years and reread several many times. There are still a few more boxes of books standing in one of the empty rooms upstairs; perhaps my Aerandir will prove to be as avid a reader as I am. Then again, perhaps I shall simply mke one of the spare rooms into a small library. To be honest, the bookshelves do take up a lot of room. I enjoy entertaining, and it will be difficult to fit too many people into the downstairs, due to all of the shelves! I brought up some planters the other day, and spent the morning filling them with greenery. I'll be honest; I don't really have a green thumb, so I'm not sure how the flowers will fare. But there are now two large pots out on the porch, filled with a riot of color. These are complemented by the window boxes that I put outside of the second-floor windows. They look nice against the dark wood used to build this cabin. But the kettle is whistling, and I should go make myself a cup of tea. I think I might now make myself comfortable on the couch and read for a bit.

Quote: 2.01.05 I'm about to venture out into the village again in search of some of the other Aerandir guardians. So far, I've had some nice conversations with Nyxa and the others over at the shop, but I'm hoping to see them in a different environment. I tried yesterday, but no one seemed to be around. I left a plate of brownies in the community center, and hope that they've been found and appreciated. the village just seems so empty. I can certainly see signs of live in some of the other cabins. SOmeone has a really lovely garden started out front. I find it interesting that I'm the only one who's thought to build more rooms onto my living space. The original cabin just seemed so cramped! Zimra and Rani were both very helpful, since they can lift logs and stones by means of a harness. Then all I had to do was secure those in place! Perhaps I'll offer our services to anyone else who'd like a larger home. In any case, Nehanda's artifacts have been combined into a single jar. The bone doesn't really do much, but the swan feather continues to flutter without any sort of breeze. I find myself wondering what the teal ribbon tied around the bone is meant to do. Perhaps the color is important? I'm sure I'll discover its purpose in time. Kylara's bouncing over by the door, eager to leave. I occasionally send her over to the mainland, so that she can visit the Jivvin center, as I'd hate for her to be lonely. But right now, she wants to accompany me over to the village. I hope we'll meet someone new . . . Foenix picked up a shawl from where she had dropped it over the sofa back the night before. the sea breeze that blew across the island could occasionally make it a bit chilly, and there was little Foenix disliked more then being cold. She took the jar containing her artifacts and tucked them carefully into the carry-sac she had knit just for the purpose, then gave it a satisfied pat. *Foenix, come on! You always take forever!* Kylara rooled her eyes over by the door. "I'm coming! Don't be so impatient," Foenix laughed. "Freya? Where are you, sweetie?" The tiny golden Fenthry zipped down from her perch near the ceiling and tucked herself upon Foenix's shoulder. "Let's go, folks!" Foenix cried gaily, and she swung the door open and stepped out.

Foenix slipped back into her cabin, followed closely by Kylara. Freya, of course, was still perched on her shoulder, hiding beneath her auburn hair. She dropped the shawl once more on the sofa, and slumped down at her desk. With a sigh, she picked up her journal. Quote: 2.01.05 (second post of the day) Well, once again, I didn't see anyone around the Community Center. Perhaps I'm just looking in the wrong places? Or maybe it's that I'm going out at the wrong time. Whatever the cause, I'm starting to feel a bit desperate for some company. A thought occured to me as I was on my way back. There are hundreds of stories and legends that feature both swans and horses. Perhaps I should read some to the artifacts. It might be silly to read to inanimate objects, but . . . But they're not really inanimate. Somehow, they're eventually going to become an Aerandir, so there must be some sort of life within them. After all, that feather flits and flutters within the jar, and I know there's no breeze inside. I think I'll read one short story, or part of one long story, every evening. I'll have to send to the mainland for more of my books, and perhaps even buy some new ones (which isn't exactly a hardship for me!). Foenix leaned back and skimmed over the books currently in the shelves around her room. She'd start that night be reading the story of the Ugly Duckling. For that matter, it wasn't a story she'd even need to read! She knew it by heart. "Does that sound good to you both?" she murmured to the artifacts. "Well, we'll see how it works out."
