My rat had babies on the 27th! Oh, one of them is so adorable! She only had 3 and two will be snake food, but I just had to keep this last one! Here’s some pics of the day they were born. And now, this is the one I’m keeping. And his/her siblings(They both look identical so I’m only posting the pics of the one) That’s it for now, enjoy! JoAnne

I'm sad about their fate too, especially having raised them, but life must go on. At least they won't be in pain(I freeze my rats). Usually if they were just born, I would just put them in the freezer straight away, but since they're already this old and still too small for either of my BPs, they get to grow first, and then it's off to make a CO2 chamber.
Personally, I don't like the all white ones at all. They're so....bland. They're usually the only ones pet stores sell since most people prefer them as feeders anyway, and they never change. A couple of my old rats actually developed new colors as they grew. I guess the white ones are just boring for someone who's spent so much time in the reptile/rat room of a pet store lol.

eh, to each their own. i adore having my cage as a monochrome thing with my rats, all of my rats are black and white. and the albinos have that nifty lab rat look to them i only have one rat with color oh him, he is a brown hooded but cant be housed with the other rats so he has his own cage. idk, plain white rats will always have a special place in my heart, same with little black berkshires

I made a simple little CO2 chamber and they just fell asleep. No pain was felt, but I wish I could've kept them a bit longer. Such is the sacrifice of a snake owner.

sky garden poor little guys (or girls)..... they have no idea what will happen to them... i think its best that way. live a nice life then fall asleep and never have to deal with fear or suffering. besides, snakes have to eat and sadly rats are one of the better feeders for snakes, more nutrition than chicks speaking of feeders, have you ever considered natal rats? they are really healthy and are kind of mean so its harder to get attatched to them. im thinking thats the type ill be breeding
