A fool's guide to battling:1) The stats.Within Life Dust's system the whole numerical side of things relies on a collection of statistics (stats) given to your dust. These stats begin to determine how your dust might act in a fight - a high attack stat implies that your dust is physically strong whilst a high magic stat suggests that your dustling in more adept at using it's more unusual abilities to aid it in conflicts. These stats aren't meant to be complicated and are very basic in comparison to what you might expect to see in other dice based combat systems like D&D because quite frankly the emphasis of a Roleplay Pet is on the actual story telling rather than maths; thus many battles might end up statistics-wise looking similar.
The stats are as follows:
HP- Health Stat. This stat determines how much damage your dust can take. Normally dusts have around the same amount of HP although some may have more or be able to gain more through the use of special skills. Attack- Attacking Stat. This area of your dust's stats influences how much damage your dustling can do to their foe. It is used during attack calculation* and the higher it is the quicker you can knock down your enemies' health. Evade- Evasion Stat. This stat increases the possibility of attacks missing your dust . It plays a roll in evasion calculation**; A low evasion stat will mean you get hit often, whilst a higher stat will mean that you'll dodge a lot (although the attacks that do hit will hit hard). Magic- Magic/Skill Stat. Used up when your dust uses their special magical talents or skills*.
Stats will be chosen for you by the staff at child stage with 10 points distributed between attack, evade and magic as we see fit. As your child grows from child to teen and teen to adult more stat points will be made available to you for placement and their health will be increased. Please note that certain stats (evade & attack) may be given caps on how high they can be increased to maintain a balanced system.

2) Starting a fight.Step one: When a battle commences the person setting up the thread must set out the title like so: "TITLE - [NameA VS NameB]". The first post must include the stats of both participants (in the event of it being a demon encounter the staff member will add the demon's stats in for you) and if you desire, you can put background information for the fight: setting, time, weather ect.
Step two: The player whose dust has the lower evade stat (we shall refer to him as PlayerA) commences the roleplaying. To do so they make their post including; stats of their dust and a description of their dust entering the area where the battle will take place. They cannot roll for an attack or use any skills - this post is solely for introducing your dust to the fight situation.
Step three: The other player, PlayerB, may then post. They must also include a description of their dustling's entrance and their dust's stats, just like playerA, but they may now also roll to attack* or use a skill** to commence the battle.
Step four: After calculating damage* and updating their stats, PlayerA may retaliate by rolling for an attack or using a skill.
Step five: After calculating damage* and updating their stats, PlayerB may retaliate by rolling for an attack or using a skill.
Step four and five repeat until one (or both) of the dust/demon(s) runs out of HP. Remember to always include a description and updated stats and you will be proficient in battling in no time.

3) Battle mechanics. As already mentioned, the dice rolling system to figure out the damage done in battles has been simplified as much as reasonably possible. The dice used within our system are always ten sided dice (d10) and the processes used to use the system are listed here in a way that will hopefully be easy to follow and comprehend.
Attack calculation: Attack calculation is how you work out how much damage is done to your opponent: basically how much they take away from their health. When rolling to attack at the start of a battle you need only roll one ten-sided dice (1d10) however, later on in battles when you will be evading other attacks you will need to roll two ten-sided dice (2d10). The damage done by your attack is equal to your attack stat plus the amount rolled on the dice (the second result only when rolling two dice). Damage= attack stat + 2nd dice result. So long as your foe doesn't evade your attack or use any damage effecting skills this figure should be detracted from your foes HP in their next post.
Evasion calculation: As mentioned above it is possible to evade an attack. When your foe has rolled to attack you, alongside your next attack/skill roll you may also roll to evade. This is done by using two ten-sided dice (2d10). The first result of this roll is used in combination with your evade stat to avoid your foe's last attack against you; if this figure is larger than the damage they would deal towards you their attack missed and no damage is done. 1st dice result + evade > damage = no reduction from your health.

4) Worked example. The following posts will be set out like a real battle, in this case between a basic demon and Aren - an adult dust. Notes will be included to further explain the method of battling.
--------First post--------
Title: "A basic fight! [Aren Vs Demon]" <-- The title conforms to the required format - it has a title + lists the combatants.
Aren's Stats:
HP: 100 Attack: 10 Evade: 10 Magic: 10
Demon's Stats:
HP: 25 Attack: 5 Evade: 2 Magic: 3
^^^ The post contains the details for the dust/demon(s) taking part in the battle. In this example you can quickly see that Aren is much stronger - this normally wouldn't be the case but for a quick and simple run through we've made it unbalanced so that it doesn't drag out too long.

--------Second post--------
Demon's Stats:
HP: 25 Attack: 5 Evade: 2 <-- The demon's evade stat is lower than Aren's so it posts first yet cannot roll. Magic: 3
The demon lifted it's small rounded head, beady red eyes scanning the area for the source of it's interest. It could smell the dust - extremely potent and powerful. It would make a brilliant meal. However, the basic nature of the demon meant that the thought of having to battle this fearsome opponent for it's life force didn't stir in the dire creature's black brain. Quite frankly it was very very stupid.
^^^ A narrative introduction is included, setting the scene and giving the next person something to build off.

--------Third post-------- ^^^ A single ten-sided dice (d10) is rolled as Aren make his attack.
Aren's Stats:
HP: 100 Attack: 10 Evade: 10 Magic: 10
^^^ Aren's stats are included.
The only other pair of eyes present were not roaming like the demons; They were staring at their target, reflecting on the despicable nature of the demon. It was sniffing the air, looking for him. No doubt dreaming about how much it desired to consume him. His teeth clenched. That would not happen - Aevah had granted him enough power to crush foes like this.
With a swift movement he shot forward and lashed out at the imp-like being, all his hatred against their kind behind his strike.
^^^ The role-playing section reacts to the first post and the first attack is described.

--------Fourth post-------- ^^^ The demon rolls two ten-sided dice (2d10). The first result, 5, is used for evasion. The second, 1, is used in it's attack on Aren.Aren's dice roll + Aren's attack = damage. 10 + 10 = 20
Demon's 1st dice roll + Demon's evade = evasion result. 5 + 2 = 7
20 > 7. Attack hits.
^^^ Working out is generally done before the rest of the post. Because you need to roll to see if it's possible to evade you generally post a blank entry then go back and edit in the results.
Demon's Stats:
HP: 25 - 20 = 5 <-- Remember to update your health to show the remaining amount. Attack: 5 Evade: 2 Magic: 3
The blow caught the little demon before it could even locate the enemy Dust. Wailing pitifully it was knocked against a nearby tree, it's whole body blistering with pain. Blinking rapidly it finally saw it's foe - skin as white as alabaster with a glowing heart of radiant dust. The delectable sight was enough to banish the pain and the vile creature righted itself.
Screeching it charged, tiny claws extended ready to swipe at the enemy!
^^^ The narration shows the demon getting hurt and introduces it's attack.

--------Fifth post-------- ^^^ Aren rolls two ten-sided dice (2d10). The first result is used for evasion and the second is used in Aren's attack.Demon's dice roll + Demon's attack = damage. 1 + 5 = 6
Aren's 1st dice roll + Aren's evade = evasion result. 10 + 10 = 20
20 > 6. Attack misses.
^^^ Again, working out is done before the main body of the post.
Aren's Stats:
HP: 100 <-- Because the attack missed, nothing happens to Aren's health. Attack: 10 Evade: 10 Magic: 10
The dust simply sidestepped the attack, it wasn't difficult as the extent of the creature's attack skill seemed to be flailing it's clawed arms in his general direction. This specimen of demon kind was pretty pathetic in all honesty... But he knew they could be much much more dangerous thus he kept a level head and did not allow arrogance to seep into his actions. He would finish this soon.
He moved forward with flowing angelic grace before less gracefully kicking out with a booted foot.
^^^ The roleplay acknowledges the miss and begins to suggest the battle is coming to a close.

--------Sixth post-------- Aren's dice roll + Aren's attack = damage. 3 + 10 = 13
Demon's 1st dice roll + Demon's evade = evasion result. 7 + 2 = 9
13 > 9. Attack hits.
Demon's Stats:
HP: 5 - 13 = 0 <-- The damage is larger than the remaining health thus the health is reduced to 0 and the battle ends. Attack: 5 Evade: 2 Magic: 3
The kick hit the demon despite it's desperate attempt to scramble out the way. The hard sole of the boot knocked it down and the air out of it's shady lungs. It could take no more of this... It's red eyes gave one last hungry look at the glowing heart of dust looming above it before closing and allowing a sigh to escape it's dying form.
Slowly it's spindly black shape begun to dissipate - thin trails of smoke unwinding till nothing but a dull pile of exhausted dust remained..
^^^ The narrative accepts the loss of the character and in the case of a demon describes the death. If it were a Dust loosing they would either just feint/admit defeat or make a hasty wounded escape.
AREN WINS.
^^^ The end of the post must clearly state the winner. Also, at this point the title can be changed to reflect the winner. This is helpful to us staff to keep an eye on things but not strictly required.

3) Special skills.Alongside regular attacking and evading there are special skills to help spice up battles and give your dust their own style. Each skill is unique to a dust and are usually based on their essence; for example a wind dust might be able to summon gusts of wind to knock back enemies gaining them some breathing space during a battle. Skills don't have to be solely reserved for battles they can be used in regular RP too - obviously without the dice rolling associated with them. Skills use up magic and one can assume that a Dustling with a higher magic stat is more proficient in controlling their abilities.
Understanding skill instructions: Each skill has it's own description about how it should be used. The following is an example of a skill description with accompanying annotations to help explain what it all means.

4) Worked example - Skills. The following posts will be set out like a real battle, in this case between a basic demon and Aren - an adult dust using his skill(s). Notes will be included to further explain the method of battling.
--------First post--------
Title: "A battle with skills! [Aren Vs Demon]"
Aren's Stats:
HP: 100 Attack: 10 Evade: 10 Magic: 10
Light Strike – (Active) Aren strikes the enemy with a weapon made out of light. To use this attack, roll a second 10 sided die along with the 10 sided attack die; if the resulting number is 1-5 then the attack damage is at 100% of the calculated damage, if the number is 6-10 then the damage is doubled. This attack uses 6 magic points.
Demon's Stats:
HP: 25 Attack: 5 Evade: 2 Magic: 3
^^^ As with the previous worked example the stat differences here are vastly different. You will also note that the details of Aren's skill are listed for reference purposes.

Demon's Stats:
HP: 25 Attack: 5 Evade: 2 Magic: 3
Gnashing it's teeth and scraping it's black claws across the earth the little minx of a demon was eager for a fight. No fear was instilled in it's glitter eating heart and every fibre of it's being was hungry for the taste of a fallen dust. It's starving red eyes glared up across the clearing at it's foe. In it's primitive wicked brain, lunch had just arrived.

--------Third post-------- ^^^ As ordered by the skill instructions two ten-sided dice (2d10) are rolled.
Aren's Stats:
HP: 100 Attack: 10 Evade: 10 Magic: 10 - 6= 4 <-- magic points are deducted for the skill's use.Quote: Light Strike – (Active) Aren strikes the enemy with a weapon made out of light. This attack uses 6 magic points.
^^^ Aren's skill in use is included within the post.
The vile imp before him was an abomination of nature - deserving of no pity, no second thoughts. It's only purpose in life was to harm and thus it deserved no kind treatment. Steeling himself Aren placed his hands together, summoning his glitter to a swirling frenzy. Between his pale palms the light of his life-force glimmered in magical fury. To him the bundle of magic was no more than an orb of bright, warming energy... But when he loosed it from his hold and at the demon...
It would produce a most unpleasant surprise for the creature.
