Looking for a point of view. I am planning on getting a cat, but I dunno if it would be better to get a female or a male. It would be a lone cat, as I don't think we can afford two (vet, food, all that).
All my life I've lived with a ton of cats... I mean, at least 4 at the same time, so I dunno what's better for a lone kitty. Have any of you had a lone cat? Could you share experiences with me? Are females happier alone or in a group? And males?

I have 2 cats, but I usually go for males, they tend to not be as grouchy as females, plus it costs less to have them fixed, and as long as you do it early enough you won't have to worry about them spraying. The majority of the cats I've had in the past were male, they're sweet and cuddly, I honestly have never had a mean male cat. 3nodding

Well, I'm always an advocate for adopting. I've only really ever owned female cats, and they were usually by themselves. It really depends on the personality of the cat itself. Some are more rambunctious, others are more mellow. All cats seem to be more mellow once they're fixed. The people who you get your cat from can give you a better idea of how your new cat will act when it is by itself.

If someone neutered you, you'd be mellowed out too. >_> Both from being severely disappointed in your life and from not having hormones assaulting your brain.

Dew, our cats were just psychotic.

I don't have a gender preference, per se. I like all kitties. ^_^

If your cat is too mellow, maybe it needs to be confused. ninja

Watch this. You won't regret it! XD

Well, for sure I'll neuter him / her. I don't want / can't have many kitties. I wonder if I can ask for a psychotic cat... no matter the gender xd
By the way... I'm more confused than the cat @__@

I find male cats are way more affectionate than female cats, especially if your house is dominated by females. We got adopted by ours back in July/August (seriously, he just walked in and owned us from the start. XD)

We haven't gotten him neutered yet but the cat before him, Blackie, was and he was a real lazy kitty but he loved affection and would put YOU to bed if you stayed up too late. :3 Soo cute.

Females, on the other hand are very domineering, complacent and psychotic. All the female cats I've known have either scratched or attacked me for no reason and usually cats love me. So yeah, get a male.

My female kitty isn't psychotic. It seems like she exists only to sleep and cuddle. blaugh

We have had at one time 9 cats...the males are relaxed and friendly and the females are mostly slightly crazy...but I love them all and they are all affectionate. The males do seem to have an easier time getting along with everyone else than the females though.

We have three cats, all females, and only one is somewhat cuddly.
Bella is neurotic and a "self-petter", but hates to be picked up. Phantom is skittish, and only comes out for food and some petting, only on her terms. And Angel is quiet (unless it's feeding time), and if you are still will lay on your lap for as long as you want, or sits on the windowsill until you pick her up and cuddle a little.
And BTW, Bella was named 3 years ago, before twilight came out. We call her Beller, cause she whines ALOT.
I had a male before the girls, and he was really sweet, I rescued him when he was dumped too early in life, and he would "nurse" on my earlobe if I let him. His name was Samwise, Sam for short. An animal attacked him when he was 9 months and I couldn't save him. crying I miss him. I recommend having them indoors. The girls are and are content to stay inside, except Phantom, who grew up outside on her own, poor girl.

Anyway, all that to say that it really depends on the personality of the kitty you get. mrgreen
