Hideki padded softly through the forest, listening to the soft sound of the grass pressing beneath his paws. He would stop occasionally and peer around trees here and there, almost as if he was looking for something. His dark blue eyes would look left, then right, then back to his path where he would continue walking. He was humming a soft and quiet tune while he walked and his humming would also stop each time he did. It's hard to say what it was that Hideki was looking for, because not even he himself was sure. A little part of him really longed to find some company, but he didn't particularly expect to run into any. Still he kept walking and humming, the noise being comforting to him, covering up the lonely silence and making him feel that there was a reason to keep on moving forward.

Piperit was not having a very good day. He'd run out of things to read, and Yuu was out so he couldn't ask her. On top of that, everyone was deciding to be impossibly loud back at the cave. Having heard from Blake that perhaps the forest would offer some quiet, he took one of his favorite books with him and decided to see if Blake had been right. As he sat down and began to read, he found that this activity, for once, was rather boring....and he almost wished he had someone to bother him.

Hideki continued his routine of walking, humming, stopping, looking, and walking again. The forest was quiet except for his humming and his footsteps. Every time he would stop, so would the noise. If he listened closely he could hear rustling in the distance, probably from a bird or a small animal, but other than that nothing of interest.

As he stopped to peer around one tree he caught sight of something unusual. It wasn't unusual really, it was just that Hideki hadn't come across anyone else today, and so it was unusual at the moment. He smiled a little, because he had wanted some company. He hadn't been looking for anything in particular, but if he had been it would have been something like company. Something other than the trees and the leaves and the grass.

It was a red and white namir that he came across and he appeared to be reading a book. Hideki padded over quietly, his humming stopped all together now. He didn't want to bother his new acquaintance, but he wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to be friendly. He wondered what he would say when he reached the male and he wondered if he would notice him approaching.

Piperit had sat reading for awhile when he felt as if someone else was nearby. That was normal, when you're the type who wants to be alone you become accustomed to the feeling that someone else is nearby. He looked up to see a peculiarly colored namir coming towards him, perhaps interested in conversation. If it had been any other day Piperit would have ignored him, but today he closed his book, and watched the namir approach. He didn't say anything, just watched.

The male had noticed him approaching because he looked his way and closed his book. That must have been a good sign. He didn't seem to be bothered, but he didn't seem to be particularly interested either. Well, it didn't matter either way Hideki figured - he was used to being rejected anyways.

He was only a few feet away now and he decided it was a good conversation distance. He plucked up his courage and said,
"Hello."

'Will I be able to make a new friend today?" Hideki wondered to himself.

Piperit took note of the space that the other had put between them. He found it to be a nice considerate gesture.
"Hello," he replied to Hideki's greeting. It was his typical tone, somewhat stand off-ish but that was just how he was. "I wasn't expecting to see anyone out here...I heard it was rather quiet."

Quiet? Well that was true...it was very quite out here in the forest. Hideki wondered for a second why he had come out here. But that was the thing, he didn't know...

"Yeah, it is...." he replied, in a tone that implied it was too quiet.

His eyes went back to the book the male was reading and then back to the male himself. Maybe he just wanted some quite time. That would figure...when Hideki was looking for something other than quiet, the namrah he met would be looking for quiet. He guessed that was just his luck.

"Sorry...I hope I didn't bother you or anything," he said politely.

Piperit actually was rather pleased by the politeness of the Namir before him. It was a nice change from the rude and obnoxious namrah he had come to know.
"Don't worry about it," he said, waving the notion off with his paw, "truth be told I've been around cramped noisy spaces for so long that I've forgotten how boring quiet can be. Particularly when you're re-reading stories that you could probably tell by heart." He took a quick down at the book, the title 'The Hobbit' staring back up at him. He looked back at Hideki, "I'm Piperit."

Hideki smiled and his eyes brightened a little, glad that he wasn't being a bother or being sent away. And he wasn't being ignored or made fun of either! Today was a good day.

Hideki looked down at the book again, this time paying particular attention to the cover and the title. 'The Hobbit,' he had definitely heard of that one before, but he'd never read it. It must be really good if Piperit had re-read it so many times.

"I'm Hideki,"
he replied, bringing his eyes back to Piperit. "Nice to meet you. That must be a really good book you have there."

Piperit smiled; he loved talking about books.
"A childhood favorite, and one that never loses it's imaginative world. It's a fun book to read because even if you know the ending, the journey is always as entertaining as the first time."
Only two namir had ever gotten a smile to appear on Piperit's face. One of them because she had the manners to not disturb his reading and was able to gain conversation through that sheer politeness. The other was Piperit's newest housemate Yuu, who, although obscenely obnoxious at times, shared an undying interest in books. Hideki had now made himself the third namir to bring a smile to Pip's face, because he had both the interest and politeness.
"Do you have any favorite literature?"

Hideki listened to Piperit talk about his book, his eyes alight with wonder and curiosity. No wonder Piperit liked this book, it sounded exciting. He wondered what kind of journey took place within the book and what kind of creatures existed within it. This might be a book he would just have to read. He was always looking for new hobbies and things to do.

"That sounds exciting," he said with a smile. "I haven't read many books...just short stories and things..." he looked down and pawed at the dirt a little. He didn't want to seem unintelligent, but he didn't really know much about literature. "B...but I'm always looking for new things to do and to learn about. I think I'll have to look for that book so that I can read it sometime." It might be really fun to go on an adventure within a book.

Piperit didn't mind that Hideki wasn't knowledgeable about literature, at least he was interested in it.
"You seem polite. And you're obviously interested in books. If you'd like, I could let you borrow this one." Piperit had always been a bit too trusting to anyone who liked to read, offering them his books for them to read and expecting their prompt return. Of course, he also knew that if any harm befell his precious library he had a few namrah on his side who could 'take care of things' for him.

Hideki's eyes lit up and he stared at Piperit. Was he really going to let him borrow his book? Hideki thought he must be really trusting of him to let him do something like that. Maybe Piperit thought he was trust worthy. If that was the case, Hideki certainly didn't want to let him down!

"R...really?" he stammered a little. He felt a little bad for wanting to accept it so readily, but the prospect of reading an exciting book and having a new friend to borrow things from was too tempting to pass up.

"I promise to take good care of it!" Of course, Hideki would treat this book with the utmost respect. He grinned and then added, "when you are done with it, of course!"

Piperit smiled and pushed the book towards him, "Please, I'm in no real mood to read this right now. Whenever you're going to head on your own way just take it with you." He pondered for a short while on how this new namir would possibly return his book. He had no idea if he'd ever be back in this spot again. "When you want to return it either find the cave near the blueberry bush, or, there's a green Namir who sits on a large rock in the meadow. His name is Sir Sherwood and he will see that this book is returned to me."

Hideki carefully picked up the book that was pushed towards him, eying it with a look of respect and eagerness to read it. He wanted to start right away, however he didn't want to be rude now and just leave after he had met Piperit.
"Thank you," Hideki said to show his gratitude for Piperit letting him borrow his book.

Piperit explained to him how to find a way to get the book back to him when he was done. Hideki paid close attention, because this was important. A cave near a blueberry bush? Hideki's mind swam. There were lots of blueberry bushes right? And lots of caves? But perhaps there was only one cave with a blueberry bush in front of it. Perhaps Hideki would find it. Or a green namir who sits on a large rock in the meadow? Hideki thought that maybe he had seen this namir before when he had gone to the meadow, but he couldn't remember. Either way...he nodded his head to Piperit, figuring he'd be able to find one of these things, or ask someone for help.

"I'll remember," hideki said. He then began to flip through the pages of the book carefully, just looking at it. He wasn't reading yet, but he wanted to look and also leave things open for conversation. "Is there pictures?" hideki asked Piperit. Those were always fun to look at to go along with the words of the story.
