So I know I've posted this before, but it's been awhile, so I'd like to revive it. Essentially, this is a thread to discuss your career! The imaginary one you'd love to have, the real one you're deciding on or striving towards, if you can't decide. Also, it might be fun to say the career you think other guild members would be perfect for. Just as a joke, you know, something like, "Aine would be a great pastry chef, but watch out for that secret ingredient in her pies."

Or perhaps what other peoples' avatars look like their career should be.

Anywho, discuss!

I'm over halfway done with a Bachelor's degree in Biology...with a minor in art.

Career? Psh. I'll figure that out later. I don't have any goals right now...except to graduate and pay off my loans. I've thought about going into the Peace Corps after college though. Just to switch things up for a while.

→【 (。◕ฺˇ 3ˇ◕ฺ。) 】_
After high school = study Photography and Video.
In future = want to become
a Fashion and Portrait Photographer.
Love to be more independent
instead of solely relying on clients
(Meaning that I'd love to get known
by my personal work, because a photo
you make for a client really isn't yours, but the client's),
although the latter would be nice too
(and a nice way to get my name out there).

My main goal is that when I get old
and look back at my past,
I can tell myself that I have lived life to the fullest
and with that, I'm not talking about partying
and getting drunk every night,
but about spending the time of my life into
something that I'm passionate about
and love doing more than anything.

Edit;; Oh and I a lot of people
tell me to study something else
and get a job later on that doesn't involve art at all,
but I'm the kind of person that really doesn't care
and think it's more important to do something you love
instead of doing something that might give you a better deal.

After all, nothing will guarantee you a good and wealthy life
and it's always going to be a struggle,
but I am passionate about this and I practically live for art,
so I do believe that with hard work, I'll get there eventually.
Even when it's going to take me a lifetime to becoma a photographer...

I go to a nice criminal justice college, and I'm studying for a BA/MA in Forensic Psychology.
I'm thinking that I want to work with criminals in mental hospitals, to help them get better / study them. But I'm going to be very open with internships / the beginning of my career. I'd like to try working in the courts with the prosecutors, or working with a precinct for homocide /serial killer cases. Maybe even open my own practice and have clients.

All I know is that Forensic Psychology is the field I want to go into. Past that, I need to try everything out!

Okay, this one may require some explaining for those of you who are not familiar with the British Law Courts.

Basically, I wanna be a barrister. For those of you who don't know, in England you don't just get an Attorney. You get a Solicitor and a Barrister. A Solicitor is the person you go to when you want to work out a contract, or sue someone, or anything like that. However, the person who actually goes into court and argues your case is a barrister.

The recommended route is to go along normally, taking other courses until you've finished your first course of college. You then take a one year conversion, which allows you to try and join one of the four Bar associations. I wanna join the Inner Temple, because they have Fish and Chips on a Friday for lunch. Then you spend a few years, getting clients, and then you're an awesome lawyer. Also, if I wanted to practice law in the US, I would have to take a six week course, and then hey presto, I can be in court in the US.

That or Evil Overlord of Earth. Either way, it's good.

I'd like to be either a teacher or a writer.

Someday, I'd like to be a Superintendent and save the Baltimore school systems, and a renowned authority in education who writes books that college students have to read. ^___^

Well, I'm almost done with a Bachelors of Science in Physics. ^_^

Yes, that's right... I'll have a BS degree when I'm done here... XP

After this, I'll go off to a grad school somewhere to get a PhD in some Physics field... no idea which, yet. ^_^

In any case, I'd LOVE to do some sort of research, or theoretical development of SOMETHING... I'd love to be able to change the world somehow, ya'know? I know, I know, cliche... but still...

And when I get oldish, and sorta calm down, maybe I'll be a college professor and teach. ^_^( )

For me I've always been kind of flakey when it comes to choosing what I want to do in life. First I wanted to be a lawyer, then an interior designer, and now I'm leaning towards a pastry chef.

I love baking, I'm good at it, and I think I'd really enjoy doing it personally, but I just don't know how things are going to pan out for me in the long run.

You people with your life choices made already make me emo because I honestly don't know what I want to do in the future for the rest of my life. I guess the only way to find out is to try?

Dream job(s): I wanna write the puns for tv shows. Like designing or cooking shows! I'm looking at you Rachel Ray and you Candice Olsen.

Continuity Supervisor?: I think onset continuity is up to the Script Supervisor or something, whatever that position is. Even though what I consider as a continuity mistake is usually minor and doesn't disrupt the feel of the shot. I CAN DREAM.

Chef? sweatdrop

Regardless, I lack passion, talent, and ambition so lawlemo

I see a lot of people around that want to do all the boring jobs, stuff that doesn't look interesting to me. So I should do what I WANT to do right?

So what do I WANT to do?

Well when I grow up I want to be a gold-digger... I want somebody to do all the work for me, give me all their money and be happy with the fact that I like them, and will have sex with them whenever they please. THAT is what I want... I don't WANT to work... That seems like such a hassle...

Either that or become a writer, or director. I have 2 scripts I'm currently working on, THOSE will be fun.

SO! I need to figure out if I want to go ahead and be like a movie person, like NOW, before I head back into school...

My realistic career choice is Occupational Therapy in like a small clinic type of place.

I would also like to be a chef or something like that since I looove to cook, especially baking.

People say I should be a Massage Therapist as well since apparently I give like orgasmic back massages.

Ooh and I would like to be an owner of like a cool modern book store.

QFE. emo
I've had enough already with all my new teachers going "But you must have a purpose in life!" and "What, how come you say you don't have dreams for the future?" and such.

Anyway, among my "so insane I don't even consider them" dreams are:
- singing opera (impossible because I'm pretty sure someday I'll be mute)
- dubbing movies
- being a book translator (specifically, novels)
- being a historian
- learning Mayan to decipher the writings in Chichen Itzá

...as for real career dreams?...
I have none. sweatdrop

WOW. What the ******** hell luna. THOSE are your 'impossible career moves'
WHY? How are those insane? Singing opera might be hard, but why will you be mute?

Why is it hard to dub movies or translate books or be a historian or learn mayan to decipher whatsits?

ESPECIALLY book translators and historians are VERY POSSIBLE jobs to get.
Like I dont even get WHY OR HOW you put them under impossible. :/

I want to be happy. everything else depends on too much to strive for at this point.

I am going to be a hardcore hotelier : )

I'm in school now getting a BS (LIKE SIB BC WE'RE BOTH SO COOL biggrin ) in Hospitality Management. When I graduate I'll hopefully be General Manager of a limited service hotel, like Holiday Inn Express, Motel 6, Econolodge, etc. Hopefully Holiday Inn bc they're like #1.

Then after a few years I'll hopefully have enough money to open my own hotels (with brand names) and then I will be rich : )

Or I might go into Quick Service Restaurants.

Or maybe both. Hotels should have restaurants next door, travelers are hungry!

My personal career goal is to be making at least 400k a year by the time I'm 35.

For anyone not sure what they want to do yet, I didnt settle on one major until after 4 years of college XD It can take foreeeeever to figure out what to do and lots of people change their minds. Just dont change too much or you'll be stuck in college for like 8yrs like I'll be XD

@Luna....... omg Luna have a little faith in yourself XD Those are SOOOOOOO not impossible careers.

@Shiz THATS THE ATTITUDE! : D

@Ret What do you want your career to be?

I'm currently going through the motions to apply for a course in Pharmacology at University, which I'm hoping to get a degree in so I can get a license and begin to do research on pharmeceuticals and potential medicines. As well as pursuing my own chemnerdy interests, of course. I'm a sucker for anything interesting in a biological/chemical field, heh.

I might double it up with Psychology if there's a place available, it'd be very useful to have both if I go on to do any work with antipsychotics or enactogenic substances, the latter of which will be difficult to get the appropriate permissions for but which I fully intend to try to research. God only knows there's potential there for use in therapy and psychiatry, we just need to show it.
