Rhian skipped through the gates of the Gardens, proud of herself for having remembered the way here. She'd gotten the idea to come visit Aoi-flower a few days ago, wanting to thank him personally for the help he'd given her and Mama - Elst as well, but especially Aoi-flower for al the effort he'd put into helping out. She'd grabbed a puffy grey hat from the vardo before she'd left, sliding it over her antennae - no matter how uncomfortable it was, it was safer that way - and stuck her wind-up key in a bag she carried with her. As long as it was close to her, it didn't seem to matter where exactly it was. She hadn't dared to wind it yet, afraid to find out what exactly it might do.
"I hope Aoi-flower will be happy to see me," she thought aloud to herself as she skipped along. "Wonder if he'll be surprised to see that I've grown already!" It was a beautiful day, she didn't have that icky school, there were no babies fussing or icky emotions around - all in all, a good day to be Rhian. the only thing she regretted was Lauss-teacher's absence - he was. . . well, he was actually at school, along with Sibling-ziazan, and Miss Lee and Mister Rory. Rhian had just decided she wouldn't go today, and snuck off as the others were talking. Sure, she might get in trouble later, but it was worth it for the day off.
Well, it would be worth it if Aoi-flower didn't mind the sudden visit. . .

The Nursery, today…was so very quiet. The sun had been gone that morning, obscured by chilled fog, for a cold, frigid beginning of the day, but eventually the fog passed. The sun came out at some point. By midday, it was actually quite nice out, now…
The afternoon’s mild sunlight found Aoi to be sprawled out in the grass within the Nursery, a few yards away from the Lobby, under a rather large tree with expansive, twisting branches. His cane sat, leaning against the trunk of the tree, while he lay nearby. One eye was open, the other closed, a violet iris gazing up into the sky,
A deep breath was taken, then given back to the atmosphere, air held captive, then at long last released. His mood was indistinguishable at the moment, a silent soul on a matching day. The customers just didn’t seem to come. Not even the birds were creating their usual chatter. As such, Aoi remained motionless, and silent he remained.

The peaceful, yet almost eerie silence of the Gardens was not to last, as casting aside her hat and freeing her windup key from the bag that held it, Rhian ran at top speed in the direction of the lobby. She tore along at top speed, calling out a happy "Aoi-floweeeeeeeeer!" as she ran. By the time she was nearly upon the older alter, however, she tripped and fell on her face, rolling a few feet to stop right noxt to her older companion.
Not bothered in the least by the fall, Rhian pulled herself to her knees, shook her head to clear it, and peered down over into Aoi's face, inches from his nose as her antennae brushed his forehead. "Aoi-flower! Aoi-flower! Hello! How are you? Lots has happened since Mama and I went home! How are you feeling? What's going on today? It's so quiet, doesn't that bother you?"
And on and on the rapidfire questions continued, as the big blue eyes of the flutterby stared down at the flower-child she was chattering to.

A gold iris unveiled itself to join its violet counterpart as Aoi heard a very distinctive voice…and it was getting closer. Before he knew it, a rather eager looking young girl crash landed next to him, then loomed over him, staring him in the face. Well…this was a unique experience. He could tell it was Rhian before she even introduced herself, the crash pattern was pretty distinctive after all.
A bewildered smile upon his face, Aoi sat himself up slowly, and reached for his cane, supporting his agonized legs with it as he feebly stood up, stretching a little. “Oh…hey sis, you certainly grew up beautifully! I’ve been…fine, just fine, and I can already see you seem happy. And the quiet? Nah, I like it sometimes, but I’d rather have it be loud with you than quiet alone.”
So, his little sister had finally grown up…he wondered if Lauss had grown, too.

Rhian giggled, bright eyes sparkling. "Yup, I grew, Aoi-flower! Lauss-teacher too! We grew at the same time, like we wanted!" Her eyes darkened, however, when Aoi used the cane to get up. The flutterby's retained antennae flicked, and she scrambled to her own feet, going over and slinging Aoi's free arm around her shoulder. "Aoi-flower, are you not feeling any better?" She asked sadly, already knowing the answer. She'd hoped he would be better by now. . . "Your hurt's lasting too long.... like Lauss'-teacher's is...."

Aoi smiled brightly at his beloved sister. “Oh, that’s great! What does Lauss look like, now?” As she noticed his cane, though…the smile faltered; he still kept it up for her, to avoid ruining the cheer of the moment. “Sis, I’m fine…” he said as she tried to support him; he moved back a bit, to show her he was fine with his cane. “It’s just not like other, uh, hurts, there’s nothing wrong with my legs, just my brain…it’s pretty much all in my head. I just need to find out how to get it out of my head.” His knuckles, however, were turning white from how hard he was gripping the cane, having just miss-stepped a little and sent a jolt of pain through his legs. He did quite the good job of hiding the fact, though, keeping his cheery smile going.

The flutterby flicked her antennae and blinked thoughtfully, sad blue eyes gazing at Aoi the entire time. "Lauss-teacher looks like Lauss-teacher.... and can I help you any?" Thinking for a moment longer, still trying to help Aoi along, not missing his grip tightening but not understanding entirely what it meant, either. "I'm not skilled like you are, Aoi-flower, but maybe I could do something to help you get it out of your head. . . if just for a little while or something."

Aoi’s smile faltered again as he saw his sister’s sadness, slowly melting away into a frown. “I…I’m not too sure there’s anything to be done, sis…I’ll just need to learn to deal with it until I can find out how to get whatever’s wrong with me out…” He sighed slightly. “And, well…it means a lot to me that you want to help, but…it’s some pretty powerful magic making this happen, so…I’m not even sure what it’d take to fight it off.”

Rhian paused in their walk for a moment, flicking her antennae again. "I still want to help you, Aoi-flower. You've helped me and Mama so much, and if I can help you at all, I'd like to try. It wouldn't be right not to." She smiled at Aoi, a genuine one despite her worry for him, and added, "Besides, you're my big brother! And I can't let my big brother hurt if I can help it!" And now there was a determined sparkle in her eyes, and a set to her jaw that said she wasn't going to give up on the idea, or any attempts she'd make.

Aoi listened quietly, a sad smile eventually finding itself upon his face. “Well…sis…the thing is, I’m not too sure it can be helped. Some things can only be fixed with a lit of time, patience…” The sparkle in her lovely eyes simply turned his smile more melancholy. He let some of his weight off of his cane, and pulled her into a close hug, tears almost getting into his eyes. “But sis…just the fact that you care so very much…means so very much to me…it makes me feel better already. You’ve such wonderful determination, sis…and that’s an amazing strength that so few people even get close to having…Thank you, Rhi…” He looked her straight in the eyes, a genuine smile now on his face. “Believe me when I say this, Rhi…I could never hope for a better little sister.”

Rhian bit her lip, almost crying herself at the look on her older brother's face, and no matter how much he said she was determined and such, and a good little sister she kneew it didn't mean much compared to her inability to perform her purpose. While the words were kindhearted and made her feel a little better inside, they still didn't override her continuing feelings of being something of a defect, of lacking the skill she needed to help, to fulfull her purpose, her very reason for being. "Aoi-flwer. . . thank you, but. . . may I please try? I wouldn't feel right, not trying the least little bit to help you."
Mentally, more to herself than Aoi, she added 'And I need this chance, I need to find out what I can do, if anything. . .'

The heartened smile fought to remain upon Aoi’s face as Rhian continued to talk. “Rhi…I mean them. They’re true…but…” He looked down for a moment, just trying to figure out what to say. Or, better put, he knew what to say, but not how to say it. He couldn’t let her go meddling around in his magic, because he knew the consequences, and how dangerous they were…But the problem was Rhi. He could so easily detect her low self-esteem, that urge to prove herself, yet…this simply could not be allowed to be the time where she tried.
“Listen, Sis…When my magic…when it gets messed around with…real bad stuff happens, painful stuff. Believe me, I’ve tried, and it even got me of all people…I don’t want you hurt. Here, really, it’s the thought that counts, Sis. Most of the battle of helping people, after all, is the will to help…” The smile, genuine, had returned.
I know you can do wonders, Sis…I mean, look at all the people you have helped…but this just isn’t something that can be helped, at least not now. It just needs to be thought out before anything else.

Rhian sighed, her antennae drooping throughout Aoi's statements, both verbal and mental. 'I haven't helped as much as you think, Aoi-flower. . . I mess up too much. . .' Smiling a bit more on the outside, however, she helped her older brother into the interior of the lobby, looking around for somewhere to sit comfortably with the flowery Essentic.
"All right, Aoi-flower. . . but maybe I could try later? I - I need to - I have to be more than. . ." 'A defect. . .' "Than just a candy-maker." Tilting her head a little, she sighed as she helped her brother along, her eyes taking on a sheen of worry and self-aimed frustration. "Aoi-flower, where's your Dad? And. . . is there anything I can do to help you feel better?"
Pausing, she blinked, remembering that this was the first time her flower-child sibling had seen her since she grew, she added, "Oh! Aoi-flower, I can make my own fluffy treat now, and I can make it fun shapes, too!" A lighter topic was definitely in order, for now at least.

Aoi looked his little sister in the eyes, smiling. “Sorry to break it to ya, sis, but the help I think you gave me is the help that matters.” As soon as they reached the Lobby, he pulled her into a warm, reassuring hug. “You may think you messed up, but you didn’t. You did everything that could be done, and that’s all we need from you…”
At her next words, he hugged closer. And don’t you dare ever, ever say that. You are so much more, so much better. You’re so wonderful in so many ways, you help others so very much…We love you so much for so many more reasons than that…
He tilted his head a little at mention of Elst, however, as he sat her down on one of the plush couches. “Dad? I dunno…” He closed his eyes, concentrating for a moment. “He’s…in the house, I think, not sure what he’s doing. Why?”
“And you can make cotton candy, now? Awesome!” He stood after a moment, though, walking behind the counter and kneeling under it, opening a mini-fridge set in it. “Want anything to drink, sis? We have root beer, sarsaparilla, and cream soda…apple juice and water, too.”
