"I don't know if anyone else went through this as a teen or a child, (or if they are a teen at the moment, go through it) where you keep changing the idea of what you want to do when you're older. If it's just me, then, oh well. xD

Anyway, at the moment, I'd love to be a Doctor of some type if I can ever manage to live with seeing blood and bones but that is possible, I guess. Anyway, there are obviously, lots of issues with Judaism and medical ethics. I know there are the abortion issues and if you are the Doctor or midwife, I think you can't help with an abortion or something... see I'm not too clear on that one.

But anyway, I was wondering whether any of you can update me on any medical ethics with Judaism because the abortion one is all I can think of at the given moment.

Also, I am possibly likely to change my mind about what I want to do as a future profession but this information would be great to know, anyway. ^_^ As I am still willing to know and learn.

Doctors may have to face Euthanasia, which is very ethical. Euthanasia comes from Greek, and it means 'a gentle and easy death'. It is when someone decides their quality of life is unbareable, and so they seek someone's help to let them die. A famous euthanasia clinic is Dignitas, in Switzerland.

Doctors often have to face such things as DNR (Do Not Resuscitate, when someone makes it legal that, if they stop breathing, doctors may not legally attempt to save their lives.) or non-voluntary euthanasia (when someone's family makes the choice to end the lives of a family member if (s)he cannot communicate his/her wishes.).

Judaism, generally, considers euthanasia as suicide, which is a great sin. However, if a person cannot exist off a life-support machine, they may be allowed to die, as their life has ended and all the doctors are doing is trapping the soul in the brain-dead body.

Hopefully I answered part of your request. 3nodding

"Thanks. Although I realise I've heard about Euthanasia, it's good to get some more detail on it, as I knew it was a sin but I did not know that there were exceptions to it."

This is going to sound horrible but its one of the big "outs" in halachah, You can do anything to a non-jew abortion or euthanasia are a complete non-issue.

Abortions btw can be halachically allowed and I actually know a Frum OBG who has a non-jewish partner who performs them should a patient request it. (that sounds confusing but it works if you think about it, he can perform them sometimes and when he can't he has his partner do it)
