Numair wandered aimlessly, unaware of the time of day, and where exactly he was wandering. Absentmindedly and pondering his recent explorations he had hardly realized that he was now on the border of his carefully plotted home. How was it that wolves got to be so independent from their parents? Did they all have to run away from their parents, or would his simply tell him to leave once his siblings had found a way out? And even worse… what about his sister? He was wandering for so long that he felt the floor of the surrounding trees get mushy under his feet, giving slightly and covering his chocolate fur in caked mud.

For awhile he just stood there, with his hackles raised, listening. Where exactly had he wandered off to this time? What or who was out here anymore? His feet slid on the mud as he turned around and tried to follow his footsteps until he could hear the waterfall, to no avail. Quiet baying came from his childlike lips as he strove not to howl for help. He had to prove to his parents he was brave somehow… and this was the best available option.

The small female plotted along, black pads padding over the mud, staining her beautiful blue pelt. But the mud didn't quite reach the strange black markings on her legs, but her nose had a few drops where she had stopped to sniff the area around her. She was alone, no family, no friends, just the world around her. She scented the area again and scented the male pup. Her brown eyes grew wide, another wolf! How exciting! Maybe he was a big youth who had run away for attacking another pup from another litter and had been run out of home lands to find another place to live.

But she was slightly disappointed when she came upon the sight of the brown male with the strange spots over his hackles. "Well that's no fun." she huffed and padded up to him fearlessly. "Hello there." she said, her voice quiet and faint, almost as though she never used it. She often didn't though, she thought to herself rather than wasted her breath. her brown eyes studied the male, she smelled of the area, she he must live around, and she wreaked of the outside, deep in the wood, of strange waters and odd places. She had a thin coat, slick against her body, but still full of puppy down to keep her cozy.

Nuamir was startled out of his obvious confusion and stared at the girl that had just appeared next to him. Her pelt was a lovely shade of blue, and the markings on her back reminded him much of the swirls around his own forearm. A slight arrogance befell over him, just as it usually did when he was confronted during a time of weakness.

Numair was one that lived inside his head, and rarely spoke himself, so he was able to make out the twinges of misuse. The young wolf had to admit that the smell of this young female was intoxicating, she smelled of distance places… of freedom and free will. His golden eyes came up and met hers steadily, unblinking with a cocked smile on his lips.

When he spoke it was a light baritone, vibrating against his chest and making him feel odd… he always felt odd using his voice now, something weird was happening to it.
“ Hello.”

The petite femme tilted her head at the male, cocking an ear to the side. He was so different, she's never seen wolf with spots before! And he seemed to blend into the wood around him almost with his brown pelt. And here she stood looking like she should be up in the sky in order to achieve the same effect.

"You look lost." she said, almost ignoring his hello. Maybe he'd been separated from his family like she had! Maybe they'd been stolen away by a rival pack and were being held captive or something of the likes. Her mind worked at light speed with morbid ideas of why the male was out here alone. Of course she was doing perfectly fine on her own so she wasn't really complaining, she missed her parents but not much could be done about that.

"I'm Faela"
she whispered, turning her head a little more. She couldn't help herself as she slowly circled the male in order to take him in fully. He was so different, and bigger than her.

Numair found himself intrigued by the name “does it mean anything?” he pondered aloud while finding himself circling her as well, which only accomplished them going in a loop-a-loop following each other.

The male grinned and mumbled something to himself. Where were this girl’s parents? Was she hiding from someone, what if he got caught up in it? Could he be the valiant male he wanted so desperately to be?
“I’m Numair.” He mumbled with a since of pride, he had no idea what he was named after, or why, but he loved it anyway.

Lifting his paws lightly he pranced about her, staring at the lovely contrasting black markings upon her back.
“What happened to you? Were your parents abducted by sky pirates or something and you were the only one to get away because your such a pretty color blue?” Never quite the subtle one Numair sounded a bit like he was rambling, but he truly loved the idea, PIRATES imagine it! Perhaps getting lost was the best adventure he had ever came across!

"I don't know..." she said stopping her round-and-round game and sitting down on her rump. She'd never thought of that before, what did her name mean? Maybe it was something dark, and mysterious, from some distant land and dead language meaning one who dwells in the shadows. Yes, that had to be it, something that fit her truly.

"Numair..."
she whispered almost inaudibly to herself. That was even stranger than her own name. But it fit him as the strange pup that he was, so different than her. But she liked that, he piqued her attention better than most things did. "What about you, know what it means?" she whispered brown eyes almost staring him down.

"No..." she whispered, coming up with a story as she considered what to say. Just saying they had been separated would have been boring. "Great black creatures of shadow swallowed them up one night, they almost got me. They chased me through the forest, jumping from the shadows all around me! but it was like they couldn't touch me because I'm too bright! I wasn't dark enough for them to drag back with them into the world of darkness, but they tried though and they almost got me! But I jumping in this river that carried me far away!" she growled in a low voice. She almost believed her own story.

Numair looked down and away “No, I don’t believe it means anything… or if it does my parents don’t have enough time to tell me.” He watched her a bit before sitting down himself and leaning forward a bit.

Listening to her story was like being inside a wonderful book. Shadows coming to life, and swallowing people whole. Devouring the body and soul in their inky blackness, and nearly catching this magnificent being! He closed his eyes, listening, just listening to her whispery ghost voice and relishing the tale so much like the ones that he would tell his younger sister. Numair was one that always enjoyed words, singing, speaking, all of it… a whole New World to explore. The only thing he enjoyed more then words was hearing them spoken to him. The male shuddered in all the right places and tried his best not to frighten the girl by jumping up and staring at the shadows himself. Numair was never a gullible wolf, that is until he’s being told a story, then he falls right into it.

“If I would have been there I would have protected you! It must have been horrible seeing your parents destroyed, seeing them dissolve into darkness… I bet you glowed brighter than a sun in all of your wonderfulness. Did the river lead you here? We have a waterfall close by our home, did you fall off it!?” The males eyes widened in complete trust in what he was telling her, not willing to believe that all of it was some kind of joke to her.

Faela wrinkled her nose at the male. "You're still with your family. Where are they?" she asked tilting her pretty little head to the right, ears straight forward her full attention on the male.

She enjoyed how he become absorbed into her story, even though it was nothing more than a spun tale for pure fun. her imagination was always turning over, twisting the things that she say into completely different things, bugs into blood suckers that wanted her blood and would suck her dry, leaving nothing more than an empty husk, squirrels and miniature demons that strode about the the day keeping watch for the larger creatures of darkness. Maybe she could come up with a few more dark tales for the male since he seemed to like them so much.

"Oh it was terrible! But I'm brave, one day I'll go into the darkness and find them and save them! but I have to find the king of the dark creatures and make him let me in so I can get my family back." she said brown eyes wide. She shook her head though, "No, I climbed up on a log and sailed down the river all the way out to the ocean! And I had to swim back to land! And I've walked since then." she said proudly. She had come from a small area by the ocean and had indeed come a far way, just not quite as she told.

Numair looked down at his paws at the mention of his parents, not quite willing to let her know of his boring life. Even the ending of her tale was magnificent in its telling. Deep down he knew most of it had to be a fabrication, but all the same if one did not have an imagination in this day and age, then there was nothing worth doing. He decided on the truth, for that was what Numair was best with, as much as he wanted to impress the lovely girl before him, he thought the truth was worth hearing.
“Well my mother and father are the only ones in our group, watching me and my three other siblings with a serenity about them. Really, I’m just waiting until I get the courage to talk to my father… I want to go join the order of the rose and become a knight. Can you imagine it… a real knight in shining armor…” his voice trailed off with his own contemplations of being a knight and helping people, much like her, with troubled backgrounds… defending the defenseless… being something to someone. He desperately wanted to make himself known, but in a good way.

The blue pup tilted her head in the other direction, slightly confused at what Numair was telling her. But he lived close by apparently, she was intrigued, maybe she could see where he lived and his siblings. She couldn't remember hers if she had any. But she listened to his small story all the same, no where near as interesting as hers but all the same interesting.

"What's a knight?" she asked, she'd never heard of such a thing. Being on her own she knew little of what stories were often told to pups, fairy tales of wonder and happy endings, the old tellings of the wolves that started the world, she lacked these tales to guide her and made up her own, twisted and dark within her mind. She saw a knight as a dark figure but with a shining light about him, whisking away evil beings, keeping them at bay, but that was the best that she could figure.

Numair straightened his spine proudly and smiled at the powdered blue female. “ A knight is one that abides by chivalry, they devote their lives to helping those that cannot help themselves. He is one that would never fight but in defense of oneself or their charges. To ignore ones cry for help is the far worse than death to a knight, I want to help people, people like your family.”
The young male looked into her eyes and blushed under his thick fur. Of course admitting this to a complete stranger was something he had never done, not even to his parents.

The male looked towards the way he thought was home and sighed, how would he be able to tell his father and mother he wanted to do a greater good, and to risk his life doing it. Sighing heavily the male stood, shifting from foot to foot afraid of her calling his idea idiotic or impossible.

Faela thought about this for a moment. It was certainly different, not quite what she had expected, nor imagined for that matter, but interesting all the same. In a way it was too 'bright' for her, she liked things dark and mysterious. He was strange, so different from her, but she liked it oddly enough. She's liked how his thoughts of light and and helping others while her mind dwelt in the darkness of twisted morbidity. "And you want to be a knight, yes?"

The small femme followed his gaze to beyond behind her. She saw nothing but the trees and underbrush and a small speckling of light what was the edge of the tree line, leading off to only who knew where. Maybe he did, maybe that was the way back to his home. "You're home back there?" she questioned turning back to him. He was nice and she liked him, but he had a home and for now was trapped in one place while she was free as the birds and would roam as long as she pleased, seeing the strangeness of the world around her.

Numair glanced at the female, unsure of what to make of her expression. “Yes I want to be someone that makes something of themselves. I want to be known as one that will never back out of a fight and will always do the right thing, and help those that need me the most.” He remained in his proud pose, as though a guard standing tall and protecting his princess. The world around him shifted when she asked about his home and his family and suddenly he found his happy bubble of what he wanted most slowly deteriorating.

“Yes I do believe that is the way of my home, but I don’t think it will be for long. I despise the idea of leaving my dear sister to herself and the others as well… but I feel obligated to follow my heart and search for my meaning in this existence. Everyone has a meaning after all.” His gaze shifted and he drew nearer to her from behind following her gaze into the distant trees and the darkness within them.

“Perhaps you will join me back there? Just for a place to rest for the night, you must be exhausted…” the male whispered sympathetically, as to not disturb her thought process. He had her here more then likely dead on her feet and he had already forgotten the chivalrous code. He offered her a place to stay because she seemed like she needed to rest… after all what was the worst that could happen? Thinking of his siblings he winced and brushed aside the thought, they would give him peace… right?

the female was slightly confused, but all the same if it was his wish to do so then props to him. "I'm sure you'll make a great Knight then." she piped up supportively. Though she wasn't totally sure still exactly what a knight was, it made sense but she was sure there was a lot more to it than even he knew. But it wasn't her place to question him, especially when her mind winded in dark, morbid spirals just like the ones on her back.

"Oh how many are there of you guys?" she asked curiously getting back up onto her paws and turning to look in the direction out of the wood. Her little tail wiggled excitedly as she looked back at Numair. "I'd like to meet then!" she said bouncing a little, brown eyes bright.

Faela considered the offer, she was slightly worn from her long travels, not having slept in a proper den in some time now. She screwed up her little face in thought. I sounded like a good idea, she could play with other, maybe even get a decent meal, goodness it have been so long since she had eaten a proper meal that wasn't berries or some left over carrion from another hunt that had already been picked half clean by the scavengers. "All right, I'll go with you and rest for the night! Then I really must be on my way. I have to get to the mountains and seek out the Great ones that can help me find the way into the dark world!" she said darkly with a grin.

Numair actually winced as he thought of his family and his siblings. “I have two sisters and a brother… my father and mother.” The male prayed silently that the two he least liked, and maybe even his favorite sister was out romping about following his lead. He met her eyes with his own, happy to oblige to her need, but still weary of his siblings… enthusiasm.

The male smiled and nodded to her quest in search of the great ones, whoever they were, “I suppose you will need a decent meal and a proper place to stay then. Home is good for both of those, but feel free to leave whenever pleases you.” His grin to her was not dark or questioning, rather warm and inviting. Nuamir was not stupid, but he was also kind, which at times was stupidity in a nicer term. The male gestured for the girl to follow him as he made his way back towards the trees he had come from. What if his family didn’t accept her? That was the most important but least likely scenario he played out in his mind as he walked until he was able to see the beautiful waterfall in the distance.
