The sound of running water echoed in her ears as she lazed beside the running waterfall, the southern territory was so beautiful and the sound of the birds cooing gentle to each other was as sweet as a lullaby. Aliana had given her mother little warning before her impromptu trip to the foreign land. Aliana wasn't worried about the strange place, she did in fact know a helix from the south. The bubbly male had visited them in neutral, so Aliana had felt safe with traveling. Not that she intended to seek out the blue furred ball of energy. He would probably show up eventually though, he had a habit of being able to find her anywhere.

Aliana glanced up when a bird landed nearby, momentarily contemplating pouncing on it, but when she remembered that would involve moving, she decided against it. The sun was beautiful and warm on her fur, her eyes closing gently. It was dangerous to sleep alone, especially during the day but it was so tempting. Stifling a yawn, she settled further into the collection of grasses by the edge of the lake, the waterfall nearby. She was just far enough away that the waterfall didn't splash her, but the occasional spray cooled her warm fur pleasantly.

Spectrum had smelt her the second she had approached the waterfall earlier, his eyes lighting up at the familiar scent. “Ali,” he whispered, grinning brightly. His tail began to wag without restriction, completely unashamed of his happiness. He had met the pretty pink Helix before and had instantly felt kinship with her, not that the pink female had felt the same, but he was happy to know she was around.

Standing up and shaking off the leaves and grasses which clung to his blue fur, he set off towards the familiar smell. He was above the waterfall, on the raised area where the river cascaded over the edge. Peering over the raised cliff, he spotted the pink tuff of fur on the bank which had to be Aliana. The familiar colour was like a spark in a rather boring day. Spectrum eyed the waterfall, then the hill which would lead him down to the helix. It would take too long though, and with a grin, the brightly coloured helix backed away from the edge. He crouched low, not even hesitating for a second before launching himself forward. It took him two strides to get to the edge, and one single jump to clear the edge.

He plummeted down, undaunted by the water rushing up to greet him, tucking his legs in lazily. “Whoooohoooo,” he shrieked, just before he broke the surface of the water. Squeezing his eyes shut as the water rushed up to reach him, surrounding him and swallowing him in. He allowed himself to drift under the water for a moment, before kicking out his legs and pushing himself upwards. He broke the surface beside the edge and, to his utter delight, right beside Aliana.
Ali!” He cheered, placing his paws up onto the edge, uncaring about the water that splashed up, wetting the side of her form. He wagged his tail, the tip barely out of the water, creating waves on the surface.

The first thing Aliana was aware of was the scent of another helix, but it was only a light hint, so she was unable to say for certain who it belonged to. It smelt familiar though. Opening her eyes, she scanned the surrounding area with undisguised paranoia. Had a helix snuck up on her? Was she about to be attacked and mauled? Damn it, she shouldn't have been sleeping, it was a stupid risk.

She jumped to her feet at the call, followed by the splashing of water. Spinning around to face the lake, she managed to get a face full of water for her paranoia, missing the sight of the plummeting helix by only a few seconds. Yelping, she stumbled back, shaking her head. When nothing immediately resurfaced, she moved back towards the edge, peering in. Had a branch simply fallen, or was she going-

Shrieking, which she would later deny, at the sight of the helix head appearing from the lake and the familiar cry of her most hated nickname, she reared back, her feet and chest soaking from the splashing male.
“SPECTRUM!” She growled, glaring at the soaking wet helix. “You idiot! What were you thinking? Were you trying to give me a heart attack?” Reaching over, she grasped the back of his neck and tugging, pulling the younger male out of the lake by his scruff.

Spectrum gave a delighted laugh when Aliana realized it was him, his fur had gone darker shades because of the water but the female had still recognized him. It was a silly thing to be happy about but Spectrum was a silly helix. “I just wanted to get to you real quick, you could have disappeared,” he explained happily, ignoring the insults in the pink females words. “I missed you!”

He wiggled from the water, thankful for the help to get out as it was slippery and his body literally shook. Not from cold or fear, but from adrenaline, pure and sharp racing through his body. Standing beside his friend, he promptly shook himself, water flying everywhere, including onto Aliana. “Phew,” Spectrum gasped, his furr standing on end but still damp. “What a rush!” He laughed, rearing up and leaning his upper half on Aliana's side, in an attempt at a hug. Nuzzling into her, he placed his head on her other side, peering up at her with puppy eyes. “Did you miss me too, Ali?”

“I wasn't going anywhere,” Aliana growled with a huff. “I came to see you afterall. That would defeat the purpose of visiting, wouldn't it?” She sniffed, ignoring his delighted call of how he missed her. Spectrum was an affectionate adolescent, he fell in love with a butterfly every time it landed nearby. Aliana didn't take his words too seriously, she'd learnt it was all fun and games to him.

She shrieked when he began to shake himself off, sending droplets of water flaring out. What fur was dry earlier became wet or at least damp. Glaring at the fluffy Helix as he laughed, grunting as he laid his chest on her back from the side, she glared at him, reaching around to n** at his shoulder. “Stop it, you're heavy,” she protested, blinking when he turned the puppy eyes towards her. “Oh, stop that, you fool.” She bit at his ear in a scold instead, “of course I didn't, I only saw you one moon ago.” She wriggled, ducking down to slip away from him.

You came to visit me?” His mismatched eyes lit up, “really? Oh Ali, thank you! No one comes to visit me here, I have to go find them but you did! You came to see me.” He nuzzled into her cheek happily. He didn't seem phased with her lack of affection in return.

Laughing at her indignant look, “I'm not that heavy,” he retorted. “I'm littler then you, Ali! It's what I get for being younger then you.” He grinned, yipping when she bit at his shoulder. “Ow, don't be mean.” He gave her a disgruntled look, or what was as close as he could get, which was in honesty just a smaller version of his grin. Yipping again when she bit him, he gave a mocking growl, “It was longer then one moon and you know you missed me.” He allowed her to slip out of his grip though.

Aliana squeaked as Spectrum began to nuzzle her, unused to the random displays of affection. “Stop it. You're so attention depraved, there's nothing wrong with going to see other people, give you some exercise, shrimp.” Despite being younger then her, Spectrum was not that much smaller, perhaps only because her slight age advantage that she was a tad smaller and larger then him.

“Littler? What are you? A pup?” She sneered lightly, without real malice. “You're petite,” she said, purposely trying to rile up the wet male, despite he rarely got angry, or cross, or annoyed, or even frustrated. He was a strange helix, but as anyone would say, he would brighten up your day in a heartbeat.
“You keep telling yourself that,” she scoffed in response to him talking of her missing him. She had missed his jokes, not him specifically, or so she told herself.

Spectrum did stop his nuzzling, backing up to look down at himself skeptically. After what appeared to be a thorough analysis of himself, he grinned. “Suppose I could do with some bulk on my bones. Bet I could still beat you in a fight though,” he said, flicking his tail playfully, dropping down into a crouch.

“A pup? Me? I'm not that much smaller,” he said, a tiny frown on his face at the word 'petite', before he grinned. “I'll show you petite,” he growled jokingly, the grin on his face looking almost demonic. He launched himself at Aliana, aiming simply to knock her off her feet.

Aliana huffed in annoyance. “You're not meant to agree you fool, you're meant to protest. Get mad!” Aliana had been single-handily trying to draw out the temper she was sure hid behind that cheerful face. So far, she had been unsuccessful and she'd deny it but she was quite happy to not find a temper. She had enough temper for both of them, two explosive tempers never turned out very well. “Yeah right,” she rolled her eyes, “You couldn't beat a fly, shrimp!”

Aliana let out a bark as Spectrum launched himself at her, unable to move out of the way, they collided. The wet male adolescent slammed into her side, sending them both tumbling to the ground. “Spectrum!” She cried out, rolling them over so she was the one holding down the male. Staring down at the male, she hid a smile. “See? I can still beat you.”

Spectrum huffed playfully from his spot beneath the female, sprawled out half on his back, half turned to one side. “You're just bigger,” he emphasized the word jokingly, “so of course you're going to win. Unfair advantage.” He wriggled, trying to get away. Deciding against it, instead he rolled slightly, nipping at Aliana's paws to get her to rear up, leaving him open to nudging her over, getting back ontop. “Who's winning now?” He taunted with a grin.

Aliana growled as she was insulted, playfully as it seemed Spectrum could only ever insult playfully, and rolled back into a submissive position. “You're not,” she retorted, kicking her feet out and trying to dislodge him. She had fought other helixes before, usually loosing but Spectrum never seemed that interested in winning. At least, not when they fought. She kicked out again, this time accidentally kicking his back leg, dislodging his balance. She had no where to move when he would inevitable fall.

Spectrum did indeed fall, and slammed down onto his best friend, laughing as he went. He quickly wriggled off of her so he didn't injury her. Similar size they may be, but falling Helixes hurt, even from short distances. Instead of moving off her completely, he instead took a place next to her, spread out and resting his head on her side. After a few moments of simply listening to her breathe, he spoke up quietly. Sooo, how's home?” He asked, mostly to make conversation. Nothing ever happened to him, Aliana was the interesting one

Aliana groaned as the male flopped down, pressing against her stomach painfully. She was relieved when he moved off, a little annoyed when he still stayed lying his head on her side as she rolled over to lie comfortably on the ground. She enjoyed the silence of the few moments, frowning when Spectrum spoke up. “Home's fine,” she said simply, not really wanted to talk about it, at least, not with someone who couldn't be serious, even for a millisecond. He was good company, and a good helix to play with but he wasn't fit for mature discussions. Not that Aliana wanted to talk about her family that much anyway.

Spectrum didn't want to let the issue drop. He hadn't know his parents, or if he had any siblings. He'd been an orphaned pup and he had always thought Aliana's family, as much as she might pretend to not like them that much, seemed like a wonderful idea. “What about your mother? Your brother? Sister? Father?” He asked in quick succession, staring up at her from his spot. He looked curious, like a child would look staring up to his mother. Which was, in a way, all that Spectrum was, a big child.

Aliana sighed, recognizing the look as one she would be able to escape from. She let her head flop down, closing her eyes. “She's fine, he's fine, she's fine and he is fine,” she responded shortly. She wondered why Spectrum never got frustrated with her when she got like this, everyone else did. She was stubborn at the best of times, especially when it came to family or something personal to her. “Why do you care so much anyway? It's not like you know them,” she huffed, feeling her irritable mood returning as quickly as it had disappeared earlier.
