Mili walked around the the junkyard looking at the cast off piles of once loved cars as Father argued at the front counter with some man about the price of a replacement headlight. Something about how just because it's hard to find it doesn't justify the extra cost yadda yadda yadda... Mili wasn't really paying attention. Really it was Father's fault for buying and collecting old cars.
His last purchase was something that used to be red and fast until the previous owner rapped it around a tree. He was fixing it up slowly with his spare time, hence why there were there for the headlight.
Mili reached down and grabbed a shiny hood ornament out of a stack of junk. She brushed it off, taking off any large chunks of dirt. Then she polished the small spots off of it and then placed it into her purse and kept walking along the path.

Ellie took in a deep breath. Ah, the smell of car parts waiting to be purchased was a wonderful way to brighten up the blonde's day. She had spent some time that afternoon working on her junk pile in the garage, but she found she needed to get a few engine parts before continuing her work. The valve was shot, and she also needed timing chains. Lastly, she needed piston rings. It might have been easier to buy a completely new motor, but that would remove half of the fun of tinkering around and learning new things.
The Meadowview student was in her garage jumpsuit and had a few oil spots dotting her skin. Her headband was covered up by a red bandana, which helped keep some hair out of her face. As she made her way past what seemed to be a scene near the front counter, Ellie couldn't help but give in to the temptation of just browsing. It wasn't like "The Vortex" was going to go anywhere if she didn't get the parts within a few minutes.
Initially, Ellie didn't even notice the other girl. However, she did come across Phil (who was an earshot away from Mili). Phil worked at the junkyard. Smirking a bit, she walked up to the man. "Hey dude!" she greeted, offering her hand for a fist-bump. "Looks like Hank's gettin' an earful, eh?" She chuckled a bit, glancing back to the front counter while brushing some stray hairs out of her eyes.

Mili noticed two people glancing over at the counter where Father was. One of them was a girl, but she didn't look very girly. She wondered how the other girl could walk around looking so rough.
Mili didn't recognize her from school. This meant that she must go to Meadowview. Either that or she was a dropout and was forced into labor at this pile of dirt and rust to make ends meat. Clearly neither option was that great.
She walked up to where the two others were talking, and addressed them directly not taking time to notice or care if she was interrupting or not, "Hello. I couldn't help but notice you laughing about Father. I'll have you know that neither of us appreciate that very much".

Ellie's eyes peeled away from Phil's face to take notice of some girl. No girl she knew, but that didn't really mean too much. The world was a really large place. There was no way one person could claim to know everyone. However, Ellie couldn't help but notice how clean-cut this girl was.
"Oh, you don't say?" Ellie gave a slightly sarcastic grin to the girl. "And I'll 'ave you know, that I'm certain Hank ain't a fan of yer father's 'hagglin' methods."
Fortunate for this other girl, Phil had more sense than to speak out against the accusation. It wasn't his place as an employee to argue. Silently, Ellie gave him another fist-bump, then she literally excused herself without a word. It was a nice thing to be a regular at a place like this, because you knew exactly where to go to look for things.
Calling back to the clean-cut girl, Ellie offered "...were ya lookin' fer somethin' in particular?" She didn't stop walking, but the offer was there should the girl want to take it.

Milli rolled her eyes. 'Haggling?' she thought, 'more like trying to avoid getting taken for a ride'.
Then she skipped after the other girl, trying to not get mud on her skirt. Her shoes were done for though, she'd have to wash them or buy a new pair. It seemed a waste to just get rid of them, but it also gave her an excuse to have Father take her shopping after this ordeal. Maybe she should also guilt-trip him into ice cream.
She caught up to her, "my father is here for a headlight. I think he found it already, but is not happy with the price. I myself am just walking around here trying to not get bored. Had I had the misfortune of needing to replace a part on my car, I'd be sure to let you know though. I don't have that misfortune yet though as I don't have a car."
Mili's 16th birthday had come and gone, and no car was given. Of course, it didn't help that she didn't have a license to drive yet, but the car would have given her the motivation to go to the boring classes needed to drive the thing.

"Hmmmm... the whole headlight, or just the cover?" Multi-tasking while she could, she took off her backpack and unzipped the front pocket while walking to where the pistons were kept. She pulled out a notepad that she had written specifics onto so she could find exactly what she needed.
Once she was standing in front of many piston rings, Ellie finally looked back to this girl. She certainly talked a lot, and most certainly came across as a bit confusing as well. Quirking a brow up, she pointed something out: "How can ya let me know about a messed up car if I ne'er met ya before?" Despite how comfortable she was in the current surroundings, she didn't work at the junk yard. She took this as a perfect time to do a proper introduction and offered her hand for a handshake. Her hand was without oil spots, but it was generally dirty.
"Name's Ellie!"

"Hello Ellie," she said with a firm handshake, "my name is Mili. Well, I'd be letting you know if I needed something for a lack-lust vehicle because you asked me if I needed help finding something.". She rolled her eyes a little. Was she not making herself clear enough, or was the other girl hard of thought?
She peered at the notebook Ellie held; almost every word on the page was foreign to her. Something told Mili she would be the person to ask the burning question she's always had about how exactly a catalytic converter turned regular cars into Cadillacs. But that would have to be for another day.
Mili scratched her head, "Um.... I'm not sure if it's the headlight or just the cover. Father doesn't really tell me about his car-stuff; he just kind of does it out in the garage. He collects cars."

Ellie seemed to lighten up as she returned a very firm handshake. It was nice to see this girl had a strong character, or at least, based upon the handshake she came across that way. She did catch the eye-rolling, but she figured she'd let it slide for now, despite how rude such a gesture was.
"Well... I'd personally talk t'Phil or Hank if ya wanted help. I'm just a regular, so I know where most things are located." Speaking of knowing where things were located, she needed to do some quick comparisons before finding something to purchase. Glancing to her notebook, she then glanced to the appropriate part and began doing mental measurements. Once she found exactly what she was looking for, she plucked it up with her fingers with a big grin.
By the time she started to pay attention again, she heard some interesting information. She would have explained the difference between the headlight and the cover, but instead, her eyes almost seemed to sparkle. Car collection! However, instead of wanting to come across like a school girl fawning over the cute boy, she cleared the twinkles out of her eyes and coughed.
"Collects cars, eh?" she asked. "What sorts of cars? Old cars, racing cars, particular brand?"

She watched as Ellie seemed to drift off while looking for a part, and saw the sparkle in her eye once she found it. Mili wasn't sure what the thing in the other girl's hand did, but it must have been important somehow. She looked her up and down, "you're right about you knowing where things are."
She pondered how this junkyard could be so exciting, and tried to compare it to something she knew. After some deliberation, Mili decided that Ellie finding a car part she needed was equivalent to if Mili had been dealt several cards off the bat for Australia while playing Risk. Not that she needed such an advantage early on to win the game, but it always made her warm and fuzzy on the inside when she knew the victory was going to be swift.
"He collects old, fast, muscle car-things, he likes to repair broken ones" she continued after getting a bit lost in thought, "I'm not sure of what they are though. Um, the one he's working on right now is red, shaped like a door-wedge, and has four round lights on the back. Oh, and there's a flag logo on the hood. Although the previous owner really didn't take care of it."

Old cars. Not so much Ellie's thing. However, muscle cars weren't half bad. The combination wasn't practical for her, since she liked the idea of having a car for racing. She could still appreciate the hobby though.
Signaling with her hand that she was going to move on, she began to walk towards another pile of "junk." She still needed a new valve and a timing chain.
"From what you said, it could be several types of muscle car. The wedge shape is leaning me t'think it is a Chrysler Valiant Charger or a Ford Torino." Ellie wasn't an expert with the older cars. Once more, she leaned forward and looked through the pile for a timing chain that worked out with her specs on her notepad.

Mili followed behind. The world of cars was strange and foreign to her. She had no idea what those cars Ellie listed off were. She would ask Father later about it.
She glanced over to the counter where it looked like he was calming down, and pulling out his checkbook. Hopefully he got the price low-enough where she could still convince him to take her for shopping and ice cream.
"I have to admit," Mili said to Ellie, "as much as I dislike this place, bumping into you here did make it a worthwhile excursion." Company was company, and even if the two girls really didn't have much in common, it did make the time go faster. She extended her hand once again, but withdrew it after remembering where Ellie just had hers, and opted for a wave instead.
"It was a pleasure to meet you, Ellie, but it looks as if Father is done for the day and I should be going to him."

Ellie casually glanced up from her notepad to find Mili retreating. She lifted up a hand for a simple wave, then went back to work.
"Yeah, nice ta meetcha, Mili!" The girl had manners enough, which was a positive in Ellie's eyes. She would talk to Hank and Phil later to see how "horrible" the girl's father had been though. It was always fun to get the other perspective of an argument.
