The pack was thriving again, this made the chieftess swell with pride and joy. She had wondered a little at first if she could live up to the task of Chieftess, but in the end she seemed to be doing well with her father's role. There was new life, new members almost every moon, and new lands. She ached for the familiarity of the father tree she'd known as a pup, but since the fire had ravaged their original packlands...
This new place was lusher, the forest more green though the trees were no bigger, save for the father tree. It was even bigger than their last! She stood at it's roots now, moving out to the edge of the lands for a patrol just for the sake of being active. Maybe a hunt, with a den full of pups to care for waiting back at home. The moon shone bright overhead, but the sun hadn't quite set yet either.
"Shadowpaw... Are you and Morningstar watching over us even now?"

It was rare for the goddess of duty to be walking. Flight was so much easier and faster...but today, she had felt flying over the trees too disconnecting. In this area she sense no individuals in urgent need of her attention and so flying above was ineffective. She wish to just walk, to travel, to experience for today. That she could not do in the sky.
Slipping past trees and over roots was not something she was used to. She accomplished it with a bit of grace, however, probably because of her flying abilities. Leaves tangled in her hair and wings and she let them...cleaning them out now would just be a hastle. Later. Perhaps, by the end of the day, she could wash and rest, but for now she wanted to see what these land-bound travels would bring her.

Generally the Peke Na's belief was to leave lions be. They were all creatures under their mother goddess, and to be respected as they shared race with her, but to see a lioness tredding towards their lands made Wisdomchaser's warning bells go off. They had a strict policy on outsiders and avoiding contact with any but their own kind. "Within the trees, as you please. In open sight, flight or fight."
Which would it be today...? Or would she have to resort to either? Right away there was something different about this one. As she drew closer the chieftess stopped, right at the border of their land, the father tree a ways behind her by now.
Were those wings?
"Who might you be, traveler...? You have entered claimed territory."

Sheba stopped, lifting her head a little and looking out. It took her a moment, unused to looking through wooded landscapes, to stop the wilddog female. She had not run into another species for quite some time. She delt mainly with lions, not out of choice, but because of their prominence in most locations.
"I apologize," She answered first, upholding her best manners, "I did not mean to trespass. I am Bathseba, goddess of duty." She announced herself, but did not elaborate. She had learned it was best not to hide herself, but to linger on who and what she was was not only rude but counter productive. She sensed, however, no problems with this wilddog's sense of duty.

Ah... another goddess, who would have thought there'd be more than one? None of the pack had the chance to speak with their mother goddess, of course, but they knew her to be one that took several forms as her role dictated. She inclined her head and shut her eyes in a show of respect, demeanor softening. How fitting, then, the goddess of Duty, of all things should appear before her. Was it actually an omen? They did not really believe in omens, as a pack, but her travels beyond had taught Wisdomchaser much.
If so, the good type, or bad?
"It is only an offense if you mean ill intent, goddess. It's an honor to meet you, sister of Timmain."
She straightened, tail taking up a slow, peaceful sway.
"I am Wisdomchaser, chieftess of the Peke Na."

"Ill, of course, is a very difficult thing to define in my domain," Bathsheba answered honestly. Duty and "good and bad" did not always mix well. Often it was easy to cut them cleanly and put them together, but other times they mixed, they crossed, and they tangled. "But there is no need to worry, I have no specific mission in your lands today."
She smiled just a little, more with her eyes than her mouth, "This I know, or at least your rank. It is a pleasure to meet you, Wisdomchaser. You do very well by your pack, it is always very nice to meet such individuals."

Wisdom couldn't hide that she was pleased to hear this, perking a bit with a brief hitch in her tail's wagging, but she smiled graciously.
"Thank you, it's certainly encouraging to hear that."
How did she know her rank already, did she have knowledge of the Peke Na? Or powers...?
"I must admit I'm curious how you already knew that, though, goddess..."
She padded a bit closer, comfortable and sensing that the lioness spoke the truth and meant no harm.

"You know, very few ask me that," Sheba replied, slightly amused, though it was barely hinted in her voice. She had grown more relaxed in the recent months, it was true, but control was still a very important element she brought to her work. It was necessary, lest she make mistakes based on rash emotions, though that wouldn't have been a problem here.
"I can see a physical representation of an individual's duty and to who that duty belongs. So, I could see your duty as a leader of your group and therefor your rank. I couldn't, of course, see your name or the name of your group, just the...beings, the existance, if you will," she paused and then added, "I apollogize, it is quite difficult to explain...our abilities as deities are not always very clear cut or defined."

The wild dog's ears perked, head lifting some as well once more.
"No, no, that explains it quite well!"
Perhaps that was her beloved Risktaker's influence. He had given them all the ability to let their imaginations run free, and they loved him for it, they had grown from it to show for it. Imagination was not something that was indulged much with the Peke Na until then, save for the embelishment used during Howls.
"Then you would have known of my fore fathers and fore mothers past." She mused with a soft smile. "It seems I've learned something new once more. You're welcome in our lands any time that you feel you need to rest, then, goddess, if there is such a need for your kind. Our father tree..." She looked behind her, then back again. "Is open to you if you wish. Would you like to see our home?"

It felt good to know that she understood. She rarely explained such complicated things, so it was nice to know she had the ability should the need arise. And to see the comfort and joy it brought the wilddog female well...it was very refreshing. Refreshing to see such spirit, such energy. It reminded her a bit of Lim when he was in his good moods.
She felt her body relax and her smile grow more apparent. She was glad she had chosen to walk today, or she never would have met her face to face, as she obviously did not need Sheba's guidance.
"I would very much like that," she agreed. Nothing urgent was calling her...a bit of rest sounded nice. She had learned that even she, a goddess, needed some time for self.

"Ah, come then! The moon is rising, the others should be waking soon."
This time Wisdomchaser's smile became more of that of a grin, a rare expression on her, but one that she had re-learned in adulthood from Risktaker. What an influence her lifemate had been.
"Welcome to the lands of the Peke Na!"

Sheba turned her eyes briefly to the trees above. Through the branches she could see, in hints of silver and white, the moon peeking out to greet them. It was a pretty sight, like seeing silver fragments due to the branches of the trees. She never would have seen it that way from the sky above.
At Wisdomchaser's greeting she dropped her gaze and focused her attention again. The Peke Na...a pack of such devoted wilddogs filled this lovely land. It was fitting. She smiled, a complete show of teeth this time, "Thank you. I am honored to be here." And she was.
