Well, then, why don't you get one! Rent one or buy a lightly used one, and get lessons on it, and maybe your director will let you play it in band!

I've never played a double reeded instrument but i love the sound of the bassoon and the oboe. I play clarinet but i've always wanted to try to play the oboe.

Wow! Congradulations! I'm second chair for oboe. >< THe other dude is like pro. @-@ I don't have a hope against him. Oh well. I'll enjoy not taking every solo and I know I'm in tune with him vs being by myself and never knowing.

I bet your oboes sound good. unlike ours, who suddenly decided they needed to be the loudest insturment in the band.

We used to have three.... It was horrible. We would be in tune (thank god for tuners) and we would play pianissimo and sound forte because when you're intune the sound waves do something weird and be like three times louder.

;D one of my high school friends played the oboe, and it was the only one in the band.
so on our final concert, she full-on broke her double-reed RIGHT before the concert started. she didnt play that night. but totally BS'd it. good thing she didnt have any solos lolol
