these are all by me.

If you follow the sun, it will never set on you.

What are ghosts but sad memories? Eac of us is being haunted, whether we choos eto acknowledge it or not. Our fears and our regrets are always with us.

The question is not why, the question is why not. Just knowing that we are capable of doing something is reason enough -- and temptation enough -- to do it. Such is why restraint is such a powerfull tool. To excert one's will is a great display of power, but to not excert one's power is an even greater display of will.

Life is like a game of Backgammon; you roll the dice, make the best choice you can think of, and see what happens. Sometimes you'll get bumped back to square one, but that's just part of the game. You can't take back your moves, you can only go forward. Don't give up though, because nobody wins or loses. The game goes on forever.

Remember, anything we think we know for certain could be completely untrue. Even the concepts of sense and logic are in question. for all we know, we are all completely irrational, or even nonexistant. don't ever settle on your beliefs; constantly chalenge them.

Time is a measurement of the distance between moments.

I am like everyone, and nobody is quite like me.

The one quote that always sticks with me and I always remember is:

"We are all dead men on leave" - Eugene Levine 'Men in Dark Times'
PostPosted: Wed Sep 02, 2009 9:17 pm

"My fav is 'Don't take this game of living so seriusly, none of us get out alive anyway'. My own personal one is, 'To forget is to forgive, but to forgive is not to forget. Don't be a fool, learn from the past, it teaches you, but don't hold gruges".

I’m so glad you started this topic. I just recently purchased “50 Philosophy Ideas (you really should know)” by Ben Dupre and I love it!

(from book – with spelling and grammar errors intact.)
01 – Brain in a vat
Imagine that a human being has been subjected to an operation by an evil scientist. The person’s brain has been removed from the body and placed in a vat of nutrients which keeps the brain alive. The nerve endings have been connected to a super-scientific computer which causes the person to have the illusion that everything is perfectly normal. There seem to be people, objects, the sky, etc.; but really all the person is experiencing is the result of electronic impulses travelling from the computer to the nerve endings.
Condensed idea
Are you an envatted brain?

Prior to computers, this concept was contemplated with an evil demon. Looks like the movie “The Matrix” borrowed heavily from this idea.

"you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink"

"let sleeping dogs lie"

"Always pack clean underwear on a weekend trip" Wait what? Where the last one come from?

"oreo, milk's favorite cookie" um... think I got off course at some point of my post. sweatdrop

If

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

By Rudyard Kipling I know it isnt a quote, but it is a poem that has touched my life

Be a man
Must be as swift as the coursing river
Be a man
With all the force of the great typhoon
Be a man
With all the strength of the raging fire
Mysterious as the dark side of the moon.
Mister I'll make a man out of you

and now i've read it and it has touched my life as well.... i'm going to be reading and re-reading this over and over...

I have been reading it since 8th grade, I brought it with me to basic and I still have a copy of it usually in my wallet. Weird as it sounds, it is just something that if I need a pick me up I read and there it is.

Dr. Seus Oh the places you will go. Small bit from it

Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go.
You’ll look up and down streets. Look’em over with care. About some you will say, “I don’t choose to go there.” With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet, you’re too smart to go down a not-so-good street.
And you may not find any you’ll want to go down. In that case, of course, you’ll head straight out of town. It’s opener there in the wide open air.

I love Dr. Seuss! I put a new quote on my profile each Monday and here’s the quote I put up the week of his birthday.

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who matter don't mind, and those that mind, don't matter."
-- Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel)
