Champe was concentrated.She was SURE she can make the rock skip if she tilted her head just a little bit.PLOOK!!!went the stone."Darn!"she picked up a rock,and aimed again.

 Hektor being distraught at the death of his Master wandered the coastline with his head hanging low. Running along the shoreline had always cheered him up, but it did not seem to lift his spirits any at this time. His Master was his whole life and he had been raised from the egg by him. What was he to do now. His heart was heavy with sadness. He was lost in his lonely thoughts when all of a sudden a rock hit him in the head.
He grunted, shook his head and turned to see a beautiful mare standing a little distance away. This mare had a horn much like the mares his Master made him breed with. He knew this was a wild mare. Usually they were defiant and not very pleasant to be around. But He had never seen one outside of the stables before.
He stared at her dumbfounded

Surprised by the sudden THUNK noise,Champe looked up."Oh!I'm sorry,I'm DREADFULLY sorry!"She starts bowing in apology."I'm sorry,I was trying to make the rock skip,but then you got in the way...I'm sorry!"She flushes and bows her head.

The mare started making sounds at him and bowed. He realized he was just standing there rudely staring at her. He went up to her and bowed his head in a jesture of politeness. It was unlike him to just stare blankly. He gave a soft neigh as a sign of apology.

This stallion confused Champe.She asks for his apology,then he bows his head down in a reply!"Umm...I should be apologizing to YOU." she said,and bowed her head even lower than his.

The mare seemed confused and Hektor was confused at her bowing lower, but than remembered the rock that hit him in the head. It really didn't hurt specially since he had armor on. But he gave her a nod to show he understood. The rock hitting him was actually a blessing in disguise since it broke up his thoughts of his master. Maybe he could live among the wild kirin. It didn't seem like a bad idea, there would be a sense of freedom. Maybe this mare needs a strong stallion to protect her. How could he ask her?
*He made himself as large looking as he could and than tried to say, "let me serve you," but it just came out as a steady neigh*
He had not understand anything the mare had said to him so she wasn't so sure the mare would understand him...but it didn't hurt to try.

Champe hear the stallion take a deep breath,but after words heard only gibberish.She did make out the words:Serve,you."You want to serve,"she kneeled down"me?"she stood up and hit herself in the torso with her horn.

Hektor heard the word serve come from the mare and was thankful. "Awe, she did understand," He thought.
*He nodded to her and than bowed once again*
He again said, "I am here to protect" In his neighing that didn't sound like the normal kirin speech, what came out was "I pro ect"
He had never tried to speak to a wild kirin before and the speech was difficult, but he was patient and hoped that this mare would be too.

Champe heard pro ect and realized what it meant."Thank you!"she neighed happily."Well,first of all,I'll have to teach you to speak properly.Ok,here it goes."She starts methodically repeating words over and over,starting with pointing at things and naming them,and ending with drawing pictures in the sand,and also writing them.

The mare curiously started making the same sounds over and over and than drawing in the sand beautiful pictures of the things around them. At first Hektor was confused by this, but than he realized what the mare was doing. He listened for awhile and than tried repeating the words. His replies were still very broken and some didn't sound like the word at all. He however was getting a great understanding of what the mares words were and beginning to understand the wild kirin language. This made him a very grateful to the mare.
"Thanx, I pro ect in serve u" *He bowed again and than a large rumble came from his stomach* "I hunger"

Champe blushed at the stallion's praise"Oh,right!What should I get you to eat...."She looks around and notices some fresh grass near the stream."There!"she exclaims,makes a motion for him to follow her,and starts eating the grass.

*Hektor gladly followed her to the fresh grass and started munching away* He hadn't noticed how hungry he was. He had not had a bite to eat since early morning and it was past his normal mealtime.

Champe ate her fill,and silently watched as Hektor hungrily gobbled up grass."I'll skip some stones while you finish up."she decided,and started skimming stones again.

When he had finished he went back over to the mare and watched as she skipped rocks.
Curious he picked one up in his mouth and and flung his head to try to skip a rock like the mare.
The stone however plunked down to the bottom as soon as it hit the water.
