Amarnta had gotten up early this morning. It was fairly common for Amaranta to be up early, she liked to get up early and practice things she had laerned the day before. She got up stretching. She looked back at her sleeping siblings, it wouldn't be too long until some of them started to wake up, she better get moving.
She slinked towards the entrance of the den, she wasn't sure where her mother was this morning, but it wasn't uncommon for her to be away early in the morning, from what Amaranta understood her mother was a very busy women who had lots of things to do for the pride. Amaranta hoped that one day she would be able to say she was an important member of the pride one day.
As emerged from the den she looked up towards the sky, it was early and only a few of the members of the pride were out and about. She was proud of herself, she knew most of their names now, she hadn't met them all by any means, but she had done the rounds well enough to know who was who in the pride, something she hoped her mother would find impressive when the time came, that her daughter knew who was important to know.

Atia was always up early. Usually before everyone else who spoke to her was. And after all that had happened with her children... she had lost some 'friends'. Not that she had friends. Except perhaps Risasi, but that was all based on lies and deciet about her character anyway, which defeated the purpose of friends, didn't it? Oh well. She would simply have to manipulate the ones she had lost into her favor again.
And then she saw Amaranta... she hadn't expected the girl to be awake yet. Honestly, she expected all of her children to be lazy, even if they were not. Often, she thought back on Augustus and Justinian... her sons had always been so focused. Even as cubs. These children were... high-strung and whiney. In her opinion.
Perhaps Cato had been a more positive influence than she had expected. Beau was gone far too often for her to really count on him.

Amaranta had began some target practice with small stones against a particular knot in a tree. She felt a need to practice some of the more physical stuff more then maybe her brothers did, she wasn't going to let her being a girl drag her down at all, if it meant more practice so be it, but of course she had something her brothers didn't she had her feminine good looks. She would be able to out do them.
She looked up and saw her mother coming back towards the den. Was it possible that they should all be awake now, he siblings were still asleep as far as she knew. She wondered if they would get in trouble for being so lazy. Amaranta did not however stop her practicing, it wasn't a show for her mother, it was more that she didn't know how to interact with her mother so stopping to chat just didn't seem right. She just instead just kept practicing, hoping that she didn't mess up while in her mother's line of sight.

"Practicing early are we dear?" Atia grinned, her every movement calculated as she moved towards Amara. Perhaps there was hope for her children yet, if they were actually putting an effort into bettering themselves instead of acting like fools and igorant dogs. Childhood was no excuse, as some believed, to be slacking off and Atia certainly wouldn't accept it as some kind of excuse. Not on her life.
"How nice for you. And I was worried you were as lazy as your brothers and sisters..." Though most of her children had been showing a great deal of promise, all things considered. Some, unfortunatly, were taking after their father. She could see the downside of "playing" outside the pride now. There was weakness there... even if she was fond of Beau. He certainly had a kick to him that other males, even Cato, lacked.

Amaranta sat for just a moment and looked up at her mother, "Yes Mother, I like to practice in the mornings. Less distraction." she kept her explanation simple, she knew her mother didn't like sucking up so she knew if she got long winded about how into practicing and training she was her mother would lose interest in her and then be angered by the fact she was cocky and trying to brag.
She shifted her weight to a standing position as to not appear lazy, "Mother do you have time to give me a private lesson?" Amaranta felt she might be pushing her luck, but if she could get time with her mother she would take it, not to mention her mother's knowledge was always good, it could help a lot. She stood rigid, waiting for her mother's answer.

Atia looked thoughtful for a moment, and then grinned. After all, who was she to deny progress, and the girl was undoubtebly showing progress if she actually wanted to be taught. An excellent change.
"Of course dear. What kind of training were you thinking? How best to speak to other members of the pride? Your elders? The art of romance, or perhaps that of battle? Knowing any of these things can improve your status, or indeed, save your life, more often than you would believe." She grinned, eyes twinkling at the prospect of any number of those things.

Amaranta listend as her mother listed of the different options of her training, several of them were tempting. But today her focus was going to be the lesson of speaking to members of the pride, it was something she had been working on on her own but some proper instruction sounded promising. As a girl she knew her wit would get her further then her physical abilities, though her physic would be he her best seller she knew. She would never of course admit any of this to her mother, her mother had been a gladiator, and Amaranta was sure that her mother felt women were just as strong if not stronger then boys, and being a girl was never to be an excuse, as such Amaranta would never use it as one.
"Speaking, I think I would like most to learn more about how to speak to members of the colony." Amaranta told her mother, she sounded sure of her self and confident, she never wanted to show any weakness to her mother she wanted her mother to be as proud of her as he was of her first litter and she knew that they had set the bar high, to begin with they had a colony member as a father.
She sat waiting for her directions looking into the eyes of her mother.

Atia leaned forward, all smiles as she took her daughter's face between her claws, cooing in her ear, "My dear, the key to good speaking will always be a good liar. If you can look someone straight in the face and convince them of what they know in their heart's isn't true... then you are truly powerful. Power doesn't always come from what you do... sometimes it can just be saying the right word."
She stepped back, smiling, "You must be a different person to everyone you meet. Never let them see who you truly are. The second you do, they can find a way to control you... take your power from you. But so long as they always believe you're something you're not, then you will always have them... even if they believe they have you."
She held up a paw, "Insure that everyone likes you. If you do not like them, you must lie. Convince them to love you, to care for you, and always let them think you do the same... only never do the same. Never care about anything except yourself, and the preservation of this pride." She was strict on the last bit, "For the good of the pride, you must be willing to die, do you understand? Avoid it, of course, but if called for... the pride and Caesar are more important than you will ever be."

Amaranta sat silently while her mother held her face between her claws. To most it would appear that it was a tender moment between mother and daughter, but Amaranta knew better, she knew if her mother thought for a minute, her daughters attention was anything but focus, the claws would seize to hold and would instead sweep across the young cubs face.
"So mother I must be charming all the time?" to Amaranta this was one of the few ways that the cub knew how to convince others, to be charming and let her looks do the talking. She had a feeling her mother would feel she needed to use her brains a little more then that though.

"Don't be silly girl." Atia said, her eyes narrowing, "You think you'll be pretty and young forever? Of course not. One day you'll be an old wretch. You have to be smart. A girl who gets by only on her looks is useful to no one. If you can't be a productive member of the pride, then you might as well be dead." And frankly, would be of Atia had anything to say about it.
"Always be charming, but always be smart. People say stupid things around people they think aren't paying attention, or aren't that smart to begin with. Understand? You listen, and you never let anyone know you know more than they think you do. That can get you killed... and you have to be the one who does that." Ata grinned, a sadistic smile on her face.

Amaranta nodded as her mother spoke, absorb every word that came through the older leopardess' lips. Amaranta hated that she wasn't exactly what her mother wanted, she wished to rise above the other siblings of the litter, show her how amazing she really was.
"I got it mother, I know that I can do this, be charming but not to charming, always listen from the shadows, never let on how much I know, or what I think. Ears open mouth shut." She looked up into his mother's eyes hoping she had got it all, that she cold turn everything her mom taught her into life practice.

"You are such a good girl, my Amara." Atia said, patting the youing girl's head, "Always pay attention to your mother... and always remember that this pride is everything. As long as you're a real patriot, then I don't care how dumb you are... you protect the pride. Nothing else matters. Caesar lives, even if we all die."
She kissed the girl's forhead, even as she lightly sunk her claws into her shoulder, "But you're a smart girl, my Amara. You know things like you should. You know that no matter what happens, you protect the pride, even if you have to die for it. You protect this pride. That's what's most important."
