The light unspotted leopard paced back and forth with a unpleased expression. She was pregnant. She had no doubts about it now. It was only a matter of when. Stupid! How could she have been so stupid to have a fling with that male? He'd tempted her was what. She jumped into a tree, struggling to pull herself on to it.
But there was no use arguing it now. Her belly was heavy with new life and her hunting was becoming more difficult by the day. She was having trouble getting up the trees as high as she'd like and she was only able to carry so much.
She yawned as she laid on the branch she was on, scouting the ground below her. So far it had been a peaceful day of her trying to figure out what to do when her litter was born. She had no experince with cubs nor did she want any but she couldn't just leave them to fend for themselves. That's what happened to her mother. Humans took her life when she went after their livestock. She had to fight on her own.
No, she couldn't abandon anything to that life.

He almost had it! The bug was only so big, and though it had many legs....this centipede was quite fat. A juicy treat if the cub could only stomach it. Hungry and determined, the cub named Tap pounced again and whacked the bug with his paw. Such a tough, shiny skin it had! It didn't even seem bothered by the lion's attempts to stomp it! Gritting his teeth, Tap growled to himself and pawed more at the hopeful meal. This would be his, even if it took longer than he hoped!
It was only when the centipede found a hole and began to march underground that the cub gasped. No, he would not lose this! Finally aggravated, Tap decided to give his teeth a try....although he really didn't want to feel all those kicking legs in his mouth. Taking a firm chomp at the insect, Tap used all his strength to tug the bug out from teh ground.
"Grrrrr, come onnnn!"

The leopardess yawned and watched a small blur come into view. Her ears went up as she began to realize just what that blur was. A child? From her high vantage point she couldn't see any adults... which meant it was by its self.
And apparently feisty. Well if she just ignored it... She couldn't. She should at least find out if it was lost or something. That way she could send it home. Or help it get there. Which ever happened first. She picked herself up and dropped down a few branches. There in the crevice of the tree she'd stored a piece of zebra meat. She grabbed the slab of it and moved gracefully to a branch just above the cub.
"What are you doing?" Her voice wasn't mean but it wasn't exactly friendly either. Just flat, almost as if she really didn't care. She'd had to eat bugs when she was alone. "Where are your parents?" The basic questions but if he was allowed to be this far then well they were really bad parents but she'd have no business with him.
