Well, this would just not do!

All her hard work was going to the dogs, for a lack of better phrasing, really. All the time she had spent making things work out was simply being blown away and out of the water by the bloody, ******** murder of a rogue that she couldn't care less about.

A growl rumbled through the ex-queen as she moved swiftly through firekin grounds. Her features seemed warning everyone, safi and simo alike, to stay clear OUT of her way as she headed towards the rogues' dens. She simply could not afford her children to become the suspects of a murder - not only was that preposterous, but stupid. Some of her children were a little on the violent side, but they knew not to do anything that would anger her; murdering someone in cold blood would only ruin her chances of success withing the pride, but the total merge of both sides would be impossible if things were stirred up.

Kenna believed that the sooner the regents accepted HER fully, then the sooner both 'sides' of the pride could merge and her real plan could take action. By merging both prides, she was sure that the best from both sides would slowly flourish. She could not have this stupid ordeal jeopardize that, "MTENGA!" she snarled as she reached the dens, her feet planted firmly, her tail lashing irritably, "You bloody well better come out here RIGHT now or I'll very well go in there to fetch you MYSELF, privacy be damned!!"

The ex-queen was certain the murder had been committed by an outsider - after all, they were outsiders, and general cause for mistrust. This Mtenga was the one she trusted the least out of the rogue band, hence her inclination to question his motives.

User ImageSleep had not come easy for the large brooding form of the dark red lion Mtenga; not that it ever slipped in easily in the past, but it was made even more difficult, now that certain... occurrences happened. One, more suspicious eyes were looking towards him every day; two, the only living one he thought he would ever be able to trust as a friend proved him wrong; lastly, his head pains were now constant, mostly due to the loss of Nasiha and out of thinking frustrating thoughts. And he was stuck here, for if he fled the lands, no doubt all the vain brutes called the Firekin would chase after with their accusing drool trailing after them.

A groan rose out of the laying body, and Mtenga's head slowly slid down the side of a den wall it had been resting on. He wanted to not feel remorse for his recent loss; yes, he endured many and was used to it, but how much more would he have to go through? He regretted chasing Nasiha off, but was furious at himself for regretting. It was her fault for being deceitful and convincing him otherwise. If only she had been different; he thought she was, but he had made the wrong choice.

He was alone, refusing to join the madness everyone else seemed to consume themselves with; the virtuous heart of the group leader called Kimacho seemed to have landed him in a bothersome task; the crazed Firekin were often seen bickering amongst themselves and attempting to pick fights with the rogues, though most knew not to mess with Mtenga; and everyone else occupied themselves in these things that meant little to the dark red brooder, and he would soon be fine if they continued to leave him alone.

Oh, how hopeful he was.

As soon as he heard the familiar screeching of his name echoing through the place, he snarled himself, and actually did contemplate on remaining where he was. Just make Kenna wait. If she's impatient and dumb enough, she'll go away and look elsewhere. But considering the type of female he thought her to be upon first impression, perhaps she would actually come inside, and get whatever consequence was deserved from that intrusion.

Mtenga looked down at his weathered claws, telling himself to compose himself just temporarily. Kenna was not a female to trifle with, but neither was he; however, he reasoned that he might as well answer her call, or else he would have to deal with her for a longer time if he did not cooperate immediately.

He had to drag himself through the sandy floors, eyes squinting in front of him from his ache until he saw the big hulk of a Kenna. She was as annoyingly red and angered as ever.

"What is it you want," Mtenga attempted to growl out as politely as he could, "Don't come in hopes of winning my favor. I have no available slots if you like my company."

Impatience was showing on her features, but for the time being, Kenna held her ground. The only tell-tale signs of her agitation being the way she seemed to shift her weight from foot to foot, as if eager to move, but holding back.

She did not relax when the male finally showed himself, but rather, bared his teeth in warning at him. Yes he was male, and yes, he was large, but Kenna was a full-blooded firekin, both in body and soul, and did not seem in the least bit intimidated by him. Then again, it was probable someone could have dropped a T-rex in front of the lioness and she still would have liked to have a go at him; oh, the bullheadedness.

"I don't know how you did it," she snapped, ignoring his words completely in favour of a verbal attack; straight to the point, "And i don't bloody well care, really. I don't give a flying ******** how you did it, or why, but I'm pretty damned sure it was you, you retard. Who do you think you're dealing with anyhow?" her fangs were bared at the rogue as the ex-queen took a step forward, still not close enough for an attack... but close enough that she was breaching his personal bubble, "Where were you when that stupid rogue was killed? I didn't see you at the tournament that day. I know I didn't - I thought it was fishy as hell, and yet didn't think to go out to search for you. What the hell, do you assholes need constant supervision?!"

A pause followed and her claws unsheated, "And what the hell kind of a fighter are you ANYHOW? That rogue looked like he'd been attacked from behind! A sneak move! Hardly worthy of a Firekin, or Firekin-to-be!"

Mtenga always had pleasant greetings when confronted - though rarely - by a Firekin. Kenna wasn't any different; in fact, she chose to make this time even more enjoyable with her immediate display of sharp fangs. He grunted, raising an eyebrow; he was used to these gestures, and hostility was only all too welcoming for the big, hardy lion.

When Kenna's words came as a barrage of nonsense, he tried to mute it out, else trying to make sense of it all would worsen his aches. He was able to note the accusatory tone, however, and his mind immediately flashed back to when Nasiha had confronted him all too recently. The scene brought back negative emotions, and Mtenga only let them consume him again all too easily.

He was about to assemble the safest response he could, until Kenna moved in closer, and Mtenga's eyes flickered over to her annoying, fat red toes, lips beginning to curl back in irritation. All he needed to do was not touch her, and he'd get through this without warranting an attack from those who followed the bossy oaf of Kenna - which he assumed was a great amount, by the way she swaggered and threw her presence around.

"Kenna," he said her name with a hint of loathing, though he tried his best to conceal it, "I am dealing with the great Kenna, of course. With the amount of time your eyes share with me, how do I not know with whom I am dealing."

Mtenga looked once more to Kenna's paws, noticing her sharp claws were out, and tried with difficulty to keep himself from doing the same. "What do you care, Kenna? Did someone appoint you as my cub sitter? Is that what you are? A nanny?" He scoffed, "That would explain a lot. I use my claws and teeth whenever suitable, and that rogue was hardly worthy of anyone's set. Are you trying to accuse me, too?"

Mtenga was surprisingly calmer than he would have been in this situation, though his previous interrogation made it not as surprising. And though Kenna was intimidating in her own right, she wasn't someone he would have taken seriously, or trusted to the point where his anger would be elicited this early.

"Apparently so!" the lioness snarled without hesitation, "Like hell I want to be your god-damned babysitter, but I knew, the moment I saw you all parade into the land!" she stopped a foot in her rage, but did not move forwards, still holding her ground; close enough to be intimidating and threatening, but still far enough that spark weren't flying, "These ******** look like trouble, I thought to myself, and by the gods, was I ever right!" her rage was checked in (after all, one could not be the ex-queen of the traditionalists and NOT know how to reign herself in, if minimally).

"You did not answer my question!" she snapped again, the growl vibrating within her chest cavity as she narrowed her eyes, "I'm not trying to accuse you. I'm outright accusing you - not trying to," a pause followed the words and her eyes narrowed again, having caught the slip, "So then, someone else had the sense to accuse you already, hmmm?"

A scoff followed her words and the lioness' ears swiftly pinned back against the top of her head. It was then that she began to take steps forward, puntuating each step with a word, "Where. Were. You." she asked with a hiss in her voice.

He was tiring from being grouped into the same level as the rogues he barely tolerated on the journey. Yes, he had traveled with him, but none except Nasiha were likely to be labeled as a likable companion. Mtenga was not going to tolerate this any further.

"I am NOT the same as the others," he growled out, beginning to raise his voice; he realized after the issue of the statement that it could potentially point more claws towards him, so started to clarify himself.

"They others already had problems when I got there. I desire nothing else but to escape problems. I have no reason to cause trouble in these damned lands."

Mtenga moved to face the rocky walls of the den a bit behind him; he couldn't let this egotistic blinding red brute continue her incessant, needless rampage over his dignity. His patience was wavering, and he hoped his next answer would bring her away.

A frown came as flashes of Nasiha's betrayal to him shown again, and he opened his mouth to speak, but could not bear any words pertaining to the inquiry. He expected Kenna to come and question him. She was too late, though. She would not get anything more than what he had given Nasiha; the murderous spotlight was undeserving of him--at least, just this one time...

As Kenna moved forward, the action triggered something in Mtenga to slam his paws in front of him, holding his body high, anticipating her unwanted body being close to his.

"WHERE DO YOU THINK?" he shouted, eyes squinting from the erupting sting trickling through his head, "WHY do you accuse me when I have done NOTHING to you or your kind. Yet. I know nothing, so you're better off talking to a rock that was there when it happened."

He threatened her, bringing his face to hers when she was close enough, holding back the urge to snap at it. "You're not going to get the answers you want if you ask me, Kenna."

Her eyes narrowed again and the lioness took another step forward, repeating her words again, obviously not about ready to tire OR in any way ready retreat without a straightforward answer, "I'll ask you ONE last time, dumbass; WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU?!" the end of the phrase was strangled with a mild snarl that ripped her words apart, "You can either TELL me or I swear, by the desert, I'll rip it out of you" her foreleg swept up from the ground and swiped through the air, barely missing it's intended target; Mtenga's face, "I won't want to play ******** guessing games! I'm asking a goddamned simple question! TELL ME WHERE YOU WERE!"

She had absolutely no idea WHY the brute was refusing to answer her, not to mention that Kenna had always been stubborn and the more he opposed, the more she felt the need to press forth, "WHY WON'T YOU TELL ME?!"

Taking a step back, the ex-queen lingered, waiting for an answer, a reaction, anything she could somehow read off from him, "The sooner you TELL me, the sooner I can leave! Why the ******** won't you give me a straightforward answer to my simple question?! Are you mentally challenged in some way?"

Though Kenna's swipe didn't touch Mtenga at all, the graze was enough to make his eyes widen and claws grip the ground as firm as he could maintain them; it was a catalyst to his breaking point, and it took every ounce of his will to not knock her face off of her shoulders. It would have been so easy, too... It was just... right in front of him.

"I DON'T REMEMBER, KENNA!" he blurted out finally, shoulders heaving with rage and stress.

And perhaps that is why he kept himself from answering. He was biding enough time to try and make Kenna go away before she realized his true answer - he had to curse himself at not being able to think of a lie or something else to send her away earlier. His lack of memory couldn't possibly do him well, especially in the type of situation the lands found itself in.

Mtenga squinted his eyes, pointing his head downwards. He kept part of his vision on Kenna, in case she were to make another move, but also kept his lids closed enough to start an attempt at calming himself. Nasiha wasn't here to do that - not anymore.

"I don't remember," Mtenga said again, though softer and unnatural for himself; it was then that he realized the impact of his own answer, and wasn't even talking to Kenna anymore.
