So this was...umm..oh yeah, Tepe! How could he forget that name? Oh, wait...yeah...he wasn't that great with names. Anyway, enough of that! He'd found the one he was looking for and now they were up close, Azar'bijan had to admit that he didn't look all that tough.
Yeah, okay, so Tepe was a fully grown adult, but he did not have Firekin blood and he wasn't as skilled and super-cool as Azar was! No way! There was just no way anyone was as good as him. He did have the best Guard in the firekin teaching him, so you couldn't exactly expect any less.
A grin crawled slowly across his young face and you could tell just by looking at him that this meant trouble.
"So, what are you doing out here all alone? Shouldn't you be with Mommy?" He taunted.

Just great. It wasn't enough that the adults taunted Tepe for his size, now their children were starting. Admittedly he was small for any lion, and these desert giants dwarfed him...hell the adolescent yelling at him now was probably at least his size, probably larger pound for pound...But that didn't give them the right to constantly mock and muse at him.
Especially at a time like this. Epesi had been killed, and Siri...she seemed alright, but had been hurt more than he'd expected. He wasn't displeased with that, oh no. Perhaps disappointed with himself...
He slowed in his pawprints and turned to regard the youth with something like disdain. This really was getting old fast. He looked the red lion up and down...he'd be huge when fully grown, he could tell, but as it was they were about the same size. Sure the kid might have a better body, but he was older, smarter (obviously)...and he was sick of all this teasing. The kid wanted trouble? Well he'd found it.
"Shut up about my Mother," He hissed, lashing his tail. "I've as much right as you to walk the sands, and decency to leave others alone besides. Go bother someone you can handle..." He scoffed at Azar and made to move off again.

"Why?" Azar asked, stepping closer, puffing up his chest so that the growl might emmanate stronger. "Don't like people talking about your Mommy? Well, rogue, they're all talking about her. Not just her, but you, too." He curled a lip, angry.
Azar'bijan did have this terrible habit of judging others before he knew them, usually by the way he looked. Being very proud of his very red coat meant that anyone else who barely had a scrap of red on them was looked down upon. Unless they proved their worth, of course.
"You have the right now." He sneered. "But you haven't won a duel yet, have you? And by the looks of you, you probably won't. Firekin don't allow weak rogues in. Only the best manage to get in and I'd say you weren't exactly in their league."
Another step. "You talk big, but I'd say you couldn't even land a hit on me." He was trying to goad him into a fight, that much was clear. "You're no Firekin."

Tepe snarled. He didn't mind..well that was a lie. He minded being teased, but that was one thing. He heard it, could defend himself. Not like this...Siri wasn't even here, and he...this lion..It made him angry, more than he'd been in a while. He might not be the biggest or the strongest, but he could be terribly fierce when angered.
To him coat colors meant nothing. these lions praised some colors, hated others, but to him that meant nothing. In fact, he'd begun to think of those lions with such 'good' coats here as stronger, yes, but less intelligent lions. A member of the rogue band had died, and yes it'd been one of the more wimpy ones even he'd admit, but it was still a death. And if the killer was one of the rogues...then it'd be smart to NOT anger them further. For all this kid knew, he'd killed his father himself.
"And what'd you know of my skill, huh? You're barely out of the den as it is. You might be big and talk big, but I could take you. I've seen more of this world than you ever will, I know more than you ever will, and like it or not, I will always be BETTER than you ever will."
He turned to face the adolescent fully, his fur bristling with anger. Oh yes, he wanted a fight. "You say I've not had a duel, huh? Then why don't you try and rout me now. If I'm so worthless. send me packing. Or are you AFRAID?" His voice swelled to a roar, and he crouched as if to leap at the youth. "I'm SICK of you're pride's idiotic superiority complex! SHOW ME! SHOW ME WHAT YOU'RE MADE OF!"

Oh no...
Nasiha's frown was evident as she watched the interaction between Tepe and the adolescent Firekin. She'd been on her way to check in on poor Tepe when she'd spotted him being accosted by the younger lion. Curiosity had gotten the better of her so she'd held herself back to listen in, but the conversation had certainly gone too far by this point.
"If you're wanting a duel, you can deal with me."
She stepped forward from behind her spying spot and straightened herself. Moving to step between the smaller lion and the larger Firekin, her eyes glanced at Tepe for a brief moment as if to say let me handle this before focusing themselves on the adolescent. She cared for Tepe deeply and it angered her greatly to see him mistreated as he was.
"No Firekin that I have met would be so dishonorable as to choose to pick on a weaker lion when they could be strengthening themselves by dueling an opponent on equal standings. Don't worry, though, I don't mind dueling weaker lions, if it comes down to a fight like this."
She bared her teeth at the younger male. While he might be a Firekin and have been raised with duels, she had been raised and trained to fight as well. If it did come down to a physical brawl, Nasiha was certain she could manage to find the upperhand, but getting Tepe involved in a fight when he wasn't as experienced in battle as she.... no, she needed to avoid it, if she could.
The ends of her mouth curved up into a sly grin. "Perhaps we should talk to some of your elders, kid, and see what they think of you picking on weaker lions instead of proper dueling. Or should I just beat the lesson into you right now?"

Somehow it pleased Azar'bijan to see this male get so riled. It was good to see someone else angry for a change. It was especially pleasing to know that he had caused the anger himself. Yes, Azar was not a model firekin in any way, shape or form. Yes, he was a skilled guard and a promising student and yet despite all that promise, he had a big mouth.
A mouth that got him into trouble more often than not. Even his family would agree with that.
"Better than me?" Azar snorted, feeling the adrenaline start to pump through his veins. A good feeling. "Well, maybe someone hadn't told you, but the Firekin ARE superior to any other lions out there and I'm about to show you why!"
He leapt forwards into a battle stance, head lowering, lips curling back. Oh yes, he was going to enjoy this...
...or he would have if that female hadn't chosen to intervene.
He blinked and his eyes cleared somewhat. "Duel you?" He hissed, now directing his words at Nasiha. "A girl?" He huffed, lifting his head and taking a small step back. What was this? Gang up on Firekin time? Since when did duels allow for two on one? Because...surely that was what was going to happen right now?
"What are you trying to imply?" That she was stronger than him? He, the great Azar'bijan?! Pah, what a joke! These rogues sure were full of themselves!!
"What do you know about proper duelling?" He snapped back, angry now. How dare this girl come and talk to him like this? She was spoiling all of his fun, dammit! "And why would the elders believe you over me, huh? You're not a member yet."
Even still, he took another step back, his eyes flicking between the two, not trusting that they wouldn't gang up on him.

Oh he was so very ready to teach this punk kid a lesson. It had become less about Azar himself and more about getting one back for all the times any of the firekin had teased him. Seeing the red male react drew a slightly crazed, almost wicked smile. Claws out, teeth flashing...oooh he was sooo ready.
He snarled and moved to charge just as a dark from blocked the way. "What..?!" He growled, halting just in time. He scowled back at Nasiha when she glanced at him. He'd been doing just fine and...He felt a pulse of anger. Didn't she think he could handle himself? Part of him registered that her comments to Azar were not meant to hurt him, but they did. 'Weaker lion?'
Still, the interlude had dulled the edge of his rage. He really ought not to be fighting, especially not after what'd happened. What would happen to Siri if he was hurt, or worse? No...He was angry with Nasiha, but at once thankful for her drawing the firekin off.
Waiting for a moment where the two were talking and not looking his way, he quickly slunk off. He frowned to himself. Great. Along with being small they'd call him a coward now too...

His step backwards did not go unnoticed, and Nasiha used that opportunity to take a step forward, intending to keep the attention on her and drawn away from the weaker Tepe.
"I may not be a member," she commented curtly at the reminder that she was still technically a stranger in their land, "But I remind you, there's a murderer roaming about, one that killed my friend. It would look pretty suspicious for you to attack another rogue member when one's died recently... unless, you have something you'd like to confess to doing?"
Nasiha far from believed that this punk kid was capable of killing Epesi. Epesi hadn't been the strongest of lions, but he could have surely stood his own ground, not to mention this twerp seemed nothing more than an overgrown bully. All the same, she'd say whatever it took to get him to go the hell away from the two of them. She loved a good fight like the next Warrior would, but nothing about this confrontation seemed like fair grounds for a duel.
"So unless you would like me to inform my cousin of your highly questionable attempt at harming another member of our group, I suggest you find another Firekin to duel, kid."

Suspicious? Now that he thought about it, she was probably right. He was already considered one of the main suspects and it probably wouldn't look too good if he ended up knocking Tepe unconscious or...well, whatever.
She'd spoiled it now, anyway.
He was just moody and irritated now. What was the point on picking someone when you couldn't be left to enjoy it?
"I think maybe you should keep your nose to yourself, instead of sticking it into other people's business." Azar snapped. "Forget this. I'm outta here." With a growl and a narrowing of his eyes, he turned and moved away, not even bothering to glance back over his shoulder. If she knew what was good for her she would not attack him when his back was turned.
Stupid females...ruining all his fun.

She continued to glare at him as she watched him turn, her heart skipping a beat as she waited for the male to disappear. The lioness knew she'd been lucky to get away without a scratch, but she wasn't certain how much damage this little encounter could do to her reputation with the Firekin. Or worse, for Kimacho's reputation, as she was not only a member of his party, but a blood relative.
True enough, she probably should be more careful when meddling in the affairs of the Firekin, but she was ecstatic that she was able to come to Tepe's aid when he needed her.
Oh gods, Tepe!
With the red lion now clearly out of sight, the striped lioness's scowl broke into a laugh as she turned around towards her companion.
"Did you see that?!" she exclaimed happily, clearly proud of how she dealt with the Firekin.
Her smile faded, however, as her eyes fell upon empty surroundings, Tepe now long gone from the scene. Her brows furrowed as she stood there, puzzled, until finally she shrugged her shoulders and made her way off in another direction, disappointed at her friend's sudden disappearance.
