This was stupid! His parents were stupid! This stupid tears were stupid! Who'd been the stupid God that had invented tears!? They were just...argh, stupid! Why did his parents have to split up? Or more so, why did they have to make him choose? Especially because it was such a difficult decision! He loved his father - Halali knew you weren't supposed to have favourites. But his father was just so...so...amazing! He was funny and awesome and...and amazing! If he had to choose a parent it would be his father, everytime, because when he was playing with him he forgot all about the horrible nightmares and creatures coming to hurt him. His mother only increased his fear with her paranoia.
But...but going which his mother. He did love his mother, it was unfair to say he didn't. But she was going to a pride - a mercenary pride, where there'd be other cheetahs and big cats to protect him. And as much as he tried to convince himself otherwise, even his amazing father wasn't going to be able to defend him as easily as a whole pride. Sniffing, wiping away his tears furiously, the distressed cheetah cub wandered into the den, whining softly.

It was coming soon. Mauja knew that he wouldn't be staying here much longer. He never imagined that leaving would be this hard. It was fun, being with Kweupe, but they both agreed that it wouldn't last. It couldn't last. They were friends, who just happened to have cubs now.
That was the other hard part. Leaving two of his cubs behind, it was heartbreaking. But he couldn't just let Kweupe leave with nothing. That would be even sadder. And Mauja wasn't one to make females sad. Not at all.
Letting the breeze filter through his mane, Mauja shook his head. He had been basking in the sun, but found that he couldn't think well in the sun. It tended to fry his brain. As he wandered over near the den, he heard slight wimpering. His ears swiveled; the sound, it could only be one of his cubs. He poked his nose in, looking around only to find Halali.
"Love, why are you in here like this?" he found that he actually didn't know how to address young males. Not like he could address females. It was just.....different.

Halali looked up in shock as he heard a familiar voice, growling and quickly looking away, pawing at his face angrily, trying to remove any race of his tears. His fur was still slightly damp, and his tears were red, but as far as the small cub knew he looking fine, finally turning to face his father with a grumpy expression. "Don't call me love, I'm not a girl!" he grumbled, pouting as he sat where he was, not wanting to move. He was angry - upset and angry. he didn't want to leave his father, and partially blamed him.
"What're you doing?" he eventually asked, not wanting there to be an awkward silence - but he avoided his father's gaze.

"True, you're not a girl." Mauja had never considered the title 'love' as a girl's title. He had called males love all the time. Well, this was his son, so he'd just go with it.
"I'm getting out of the heat so my brain doesn't scramble." he stuck his tongue out, crossing his eyes for emphasis. "Why were you whining like that, hm?" he found that he was rather blunt in situations like this. He never knew how to talk to creatures when they were sad or upset. It just wasn't in his nature. He was the one who brought the party, not the one who cleaned up after it.

Halali growled softly under his breath - it sounded almost like he was purring deeply, but it was a little lower, and a little gruffer. His eyes were still downcast as he began to paw at a rock, trying to get his mind off of the upcoming split. He glanced up briefly to see his father's silly expression, faltering to allow a small smile on his face before he remembered himself, adopting the grumpy pout once more. He wasn't happy, he was angry and...and sad, damnit!
Whining? ...Oh, he'd heard. Halali growled a little louder, tail swaying somewhat violently behind him as he contemplated what to say. He didn't want to think about it! He wanted to pretend it wasn't happening! "I...I was...No, it was nothing."

"Nothing, eh?" Mauja lowered himself on the dirt, right next to Halali. "Well, that 'nothing' was rather loud. What would you have done if Kwe- you're mother heard you? She'd have a heart-attack." He moved his head down, nuzzling the side of the small cub's head. "If you're upset about something, you need to tell me." he rolled his eyes to the side. These motions, they were all the things that he thought a father should do and say. It was true, he was totally clueless about parenting. He only hoped that he could get better by the time he was back at home.
