Faolan lay in the bed curled around his wife, one ear twitching in his sleep. Ever since she'd come home again, he'd been sleeping better. Actually, he'd been feeling better in general. Life was peaceful again.
Zia sat on the foot of the bed quietly watching the sleeping couple, rainbow eyes locked on Ellandra. It had felt something different about her earlier and the feeling had awoken the young Essentic. Now it was waiting.

Ellandra twitched and muttered something in her sleep, her expression taking on a pained look as she was pulled to wakefulness. The heavily-pregnant woman loked around blearily for a moment, before closing her eyes and trying to sleep again. She was in some amount of pain, but wrote it off as being some form of false labor and tried to go back to sleep. No use worrying Faolan over nothing, after all. She never saw Ziazan at the foot of the bed.
Meanwhile, in the cabinet bed, Rhian had the doors open a little, and was peeking through them. She'd woken earlier, shortly after Ziazan had, and was keeping an eye on things as well - though admittedly half-dozing at the same time. Something was going to happen tonight. What. . . well, she had an idea. But not enough of one to say with absolute certainty what she suspected.

Faolan rolled over, flopping an arm around Ellandra and sighed, then woke up. "Hm?" He sat up and looked down. "Elle? Honey? Did you just wet the bed?" He looked over at Zia and tilted his head, confusion in his expression. "Zia?"
"Time to get up, Da," Zia said and smiled.

Ellandra, too, noticed the dampness, and her eyes shot open as she realized what it meant, starting to tremble as fear of what was upon her started to overtake her. It took only a heartbeat of a moment for her flutterby to sense that fear and scramble out of the cabinet bed, over to the main one, and start humming softly, calming the frightened brunette back into a semblance of normalcy. Still, even with Rhian's help, Ellandra was frightened, and her whispered "Faolan. . ." sounded half choked.

Blinking, the young man looked back at Elle, then his eyes widened. He moved to shove Zia off the bed. "Gae run an' tell Da we're gaen t' th' hospital." He looked at Rhian. "Gae get th' bag w' packed fae this, wean." Moving off the bed himself and glad he'd worn pants, he pulled Elle to him and scooped her up. "Come on, lass. We'll gae get us a ride."
Zia didn't take offense at being shoved off the bed and darted through the vardo and outside, running as fast as its legs could carry it, cards and feathers flying out behind it.

Rhian nodded and immediately did as told, fetching the bag that she herself had helped prepare just a short time ago, her antennae twitching frantically as she took in the emotions surrounding her. "Is Mama going to be okay, Faolan?" she asked as she hurried up with said item, blue eyes wide as she took in the strange mixture of excitement and fear that both humans seemed to possess in varying quantities.
Ellandra squeaked as Faolan scooped her up, and stared at him through wide eyes. "Faolan. . . I - I'm frightened." She couldn't think about the twin's upcoming arrival; instead all her mind could seem to focus on was all the things that could and would and might be wrong, or go wrong, and oh so very many things. She clung to her husband, trying not to tremble, because this was quite possibly the most terrifying experience in her life - and it was only just starting.

"She'll be fine, wean," Faolan said, then looked at Elle. "You'll be just fine an' so will th' bairns. Women been haein' babies fae centuries." He helped her outside where Keagan was running back with Ziazan.
"It's true, yeah?" the old man asked, peering at Ellandra. "Ah got a roustie t' loan you a truck, but Ah'm gonna do th' drivin'. You two kids hop in th' back." He lead them to where he had the truck already running and waiting for them.
A few moments of getting everyone settled and they were off. Faolan kept soothing Ellandra, trying hard not to show that he, too, was scared of what might happen. He'd wanted to be a father so much and for so long, now that it was finally going to happen, he was afraid. He was also excited, though, and wanted very much to meet his twins.

Ellandra clung tightly to Faolan, trying not to let it show too much when the pains started, but it wasn't something she could exactly hide, either. Thankfully she was still in the early stages of labor, and had quite a bit of time to regather herself and recover somewhat before the next one hit. This didn't stop her, however, from being afraid. Besides, so what if childbirth was common? It hurt, and as frightening - but oh, the babies were coming, and wouldn't that be worth - owww, maybe not. Faolan was going to pay for making her go through this, oh yes he was.
Rhian hummed softly, wondering why in the world her Mama felt so irritated at Faolan right now. How strange.

Faolan was silent aside from the soothing nonsense he was whispering in Ellandra's ear. He moved a little and looked at Keagan. "Drive faster, Da, or w'll be deliverin' them in th' truck."
Zia clung tightly to the side of the truckbed and to Rhian as Keagan drove fast through streets that probably shouldn't be driven fast down. It closed its eyes tightly when the truck took a quick turn. Fast cars were not something it enjoyed at all.

As one particularly painful contraction hit, Ellandra practically growled at Faolan. "Shut up Faolan! And I'm never letting you do this to me again!" It hurt, it hurt, Faolan was what made her hurt, he couldn't make it stop, and so he was going to hurt too if she had anything to say about it.
"Mama?" Rhian asked, her eyes wide, before peeking at Keagan. "Mister Keagan, why's Mama so . . . . mad?" It didn't make sense to the female alter, not in the least.

Faolan's ears went down all the way and for a moment he looked pained and guilty before remembering that women tended to be royal bitches when giving birth and not to take their words to heart. He hugged Elle against him, wishing he could ease her pain. "Try t' relax an' do them breathin' exercises th' midwife showed you. It'll be o'er soon." He looked at Keagan. "Get us there, old man, afore she castrates me."
Keagan nodded and glanced in the rearview mirror at Rhian. "She's not angry, wean. She just hurts an' she's taken in out on Faolan because he's a man and right now, she hates all men."
Zia leaned forward. "There's the hospital, Granda!"

Ellandra practically snarled at Faolan. "Screw the breathing exercises!" Nevertheless, she did try them, despite spending most of the time gritting her teeth in pain.
Rhian cringed, nearly reeling from the force of the emotions her Mama was sending out, but then she resumed her efforts at soothing both parents-to-be.

Faolan visibly cringed away from her and said nothing else. When they arrived at the hospital, he moved aside to let the staff take her inside and get her a room, going instead to fetch the bag from the truckbed.
Ziazan hopped down and hugged Faolan's waist. "You know she doesn't mean those things. She'll be her normal self when it's all over. Hang in there."
"Th' lad's reet, son," Keagan said, clapping a hand on Faolan's shoulder, nearly knocking him over obliviously as he took the bag from him. He lead the young man inside with the Essentics. "Once they gi' her some pain medication, she'll be a lot more happy t' hae you there." He looked at Faolan. "All th' same, lad, keep th' sharp objects out o' her reach if'n you plan on haein' more bairns."

Rhian watched as Ellandra was taken inside, and added her arms to the hug - she may not have been overly close to Faolan, but she could tell that he needed her help right now more than even her Mama did. "Don't be sad, don't be upset, Faolan; Mama really wants you here . When we'd left she was so very scared of having the babies alone. She just hurts right now." Stepping back, the antennae-bearing essentic tugged lightly on Faolan's arm. "Come on, let's get you to Mama. You'll see."
