 It had been so long already. His pack had broken apart and family spread out over the forest and its territories. He had yet to run into any familiar faces in quite some time.
The proud former-alpha refused to let it get to him, however. Gaara had always been good as a loner, even as a pup, and intended to do some research on the areas that weren't bordered on all sides by other wolves...he'd never been good with other wolves, even in a pack, and that was shown pretty clearly through his past murders and mutilations to any creature that crossed him the wrong way.
Now padding along tiredly, about ready to give up for the day and find somewhere to sleep, he approached a river. Ah, river meant fish, thank god, snack before making a makeshift den. His tongue slid over his maw and his pace sped up until his feet were being lapped at by the current of the river. Lowering his head to take a quick drink, Gaara figured that he could relax for now, despite being out in the open on the makeshift beach. He was a large wolf, and had somewhat of a reputation...or, at least, he had before he'd joined a pack and settled in with a family. That had been a long time ago, sadly.

 Chivosi had split up with Menelaus a way's back - the better to cover more ground they had decided. As the pack was yet new and still forming they were loathe to leave it unsupervised for long - lets face it their little band of misfits was sure to get into some trouble before too long.
Suffice to say the parting had left her trotting serenely along the river's shore, wind blowing merely in her face and ruffling her fur a sensation that was rather pleasant. It was the wind which brought her yet another surprise, causing the tri-colored female's steady trot to slow and finally stop while she investigated. nah - it couldn't be...she thought to herself as the scent tickled her nose, it was a scent familiar and yet...belonged to memories so long ago that Chiv had a hard time believing it.
Scents don't lie however and Chiv hastened forward to follow it - almost as though it may fade away if she didn't hurry and find the source, rounding a rive bend she skid to a halt at the sight before his brown hide with its unique black markings were unmistakable.
"F-father?"
She spoke hesitantly, ears perked towards him and taking a few half steps closer.

And that's what he had been worried about. Gaara didn't catch the sound of someone approaching him until right up to the last second, when he heard paws skidding against the sand and rocks.
His head snapped up, and the large wolf rushed to straighten up and show his size, fur bristling in defense. Of course, he had to assume it was someone that was going to challenge him, try and hurt him--but instantly all of those aggressive feelings melted away.
Gaara had been a good father...he'd protected his children, played with them, had patience...he let a lot of the other stuff go to their mother, who was better at teaching them survival skills and to not stomp everything smaller than them. But...
"Chiv?" He piped hoarsely, nervously. His chest tightened, and he slowly turned to face her, taking a few steps as she did. His strides were longer than hers, so he was nearly within reaching distance when his expression changed into that of relief and happiness...something that didn't usually cross his features. "Chivosi--you..you're so big, my baby girl.." This really wasn't Gaara. At all. But maybe his child would remember him like this, not heartless and a murderer. He was almost afraid to touch her--as if she'd disappear, maybe he was seeing things..

Chiv hunkered down slightly as he straightened up full of bristling defense - she had startled him, forgetting in her hurry that the blowing wind had meant he could not have been aware of her like she had been of him. I ought not to have done that she thought to herself, for a few moments forgetting that she was now an alpha herself- this was her father after all and well, it was always wise to be respectful to your father.
When he spoke her name however and his aggression melted away Chivosi straightened up as he turned to face her, stepped towards hers and seemed relieved and happy to see her.
"it..really is you" She breathed after a few moments, to be truthful her childhood memories were a bit fuzzy by now - as she expected most adult wolves were, but she recalled playing with her father, and doing things she was sure must have tormented him to no end. "You still look just as I remembered you" she finished - I mean sure he'd gotten a tad older but he was still strong and proud. Stepping those last few steps towards him Chiv reverted to an old habit from puppy hood, butting her head affectionately on his shoulder.

When she finally approached he smiled widely--though it bared his full maw of large teeth, it wasn't meant to be in an angry manner. The headbutts and touches made him chuckle, and he moved to sit down, still being a bit larger than she was. Leaning his head down to give a few soft licks to her forehead, just as he had when she was a pup, Gaara nudged the bridge of his nose against her cheek.
"I'm...so glad to see you safe, it's been so long...I thought all of you had moved over the river," the main river--where he didn't dare cross. That lead to unknown territories and unknown creatures that he'd prefer to not learn about.
"You're by yourself, though..." He lightly nudged his nose against her ear. She smelt of others, however. So Gaara had to assume she had a pack of sorts. He just hoped his children hadn't picked up his bad habits of wandering alone.

It had been quite a while - probably longer then it ought to have been but then thats the way of life sometimes wasn't it? Chivosi wasn't going to harp on such things however she was simply pleased to have stumbled across him now and she happily took the affection he gave out.
"I did wander over there for a while before making my way back this way" She shrugged lightly, those had been lonely years and she'd never really found what she'd been looking for over there. She suspected she'd be wandering still if it hadn't been for Merrill and Mene. She grinned at this thought however - here she had news that she hoped would make her father proud of her.
"Well..I'm only alone so that we could cover more ground, my mate and I - his name is Menelaus - are out along with our beta and the rest of the crew defining the territory for our new pack. Mene and I's pack.." Thats right dad she thought to herself - I've grown up and followed in your footsteps...becoming an alpha myself. She hoped he would be happy to hear this new's.

"You have your own pack?" That was beyond what he had expected. Grinning down at her, Gaara gave another soft lick to her forehead, showing his affectionate and soft side.
"I'm proud of you," he said quietly, tone dropping so only she could hear him, "I'd like to meet your mate--" Protective dad mode. He laughed, "When you're comfortable with it," he fixed his comment, looking her over. She'd gotten so big. "I wish your mother could see you now. She'd always worried about you and your brother, with how our pack had broken apart like it did..." He trailed off and frowned a bit, tensing and relaxing his jaw to keep from saying something he'd regret.

"Well the beginnings of one in any case" Pausing she did a swift head count of those whom had already stated their intention of sticking around. "Five of us at the moment". Something about her father's presence made Chiv want to curl up at his side like a pup again - she'd always felt safe and loved as a pup, a feeling she'd missed over the last few years.
But your happy with Mene now - and your pack, she reminded herself, this did nothing to overshadow the warm glow she felt at her father's words however - he was proud of her..and he wanted to meet Mene. Her heart thumped a little at that, would he like Mene? Mene was a fairly likable guy to her opinion, maybe a bit scatterbrained at times. "You can meet him whenever you want" She stated firmly.
"I haven't seen Sila's in a while...quite a while actually - but I'm sure he's fine, he was always pretty tough, We did alright..no worries" She assured him, taking note of the tensing and frowning as he recounted past troubles.
